Thread: I'd Like To Produce a Play....
I would like to produce a play in one of the theatres.....
Admission could be charged...
It would be really easy....you dont have to memorize lines....the actors just create a macros with their lines....then we can macro 5 shows a week plus a matinee...all you have to do is move around and wear cool outfits

I'd pay to see a SW version of Cabaret, that's for sure (I saw it at Studio 54 not too long ago, great seats, right infront)
But there's a problem with your idea: How will you charge admission to a public building? For Cabaret though, you don't need a complex stage, you could do it in a PA hall main room (if you want props) or upstairs on the roof (if you dont)
I mentioned this to someone in acantina earlier today, and then spent some time thinking about how it could be rigged up to work.
Admission is easy:
You simply need a big house or PA Hall to put the show on.(Eventually the cantinas in player-made citiesmayhave suitable stages and admission lists for this sort of thing.) Then you set the building (temporarily) private, and add people to the admission list as they pay their fee. (You probably want to add the participants in advance, to prevent delays, and you probably want to let the structure owner in free...) Since the"building force field effect" prevents anyone from getting in who isn't on the list, you simply need someone you can trust to take "tickets", and someone to provide you a venue. In order to get the word out, I suggest posting to the "Player-Sponsored Events" thread on your server forum, and advertising in your local cantinas on every planet.
(A performance troupe (PA!) who does this sort of thing regularly should consider investing in a "generic planet PA hall", if such a thing exists. Galaxy-Wide performing troupe, coming to a portable theater near you... I can't wait.)
Choreography and Missing your Cues:
As the original poster said, you can macro the lines for the play, even macro the costume changes. A playwright for SWGwill probably need tounderstand the macro system well, and the players in the play are going to need to understand how to set up and use the macros the playwright provides. Rehearsal would probably be a must for a quality production, as it would be in real life. (Would-Be playwrights should note that you -can- load a text file containing macros in order to write the macros offline and then simply load them all at once. No, I don't know how - go search for it.) Even better, you could evenmacro the MUSIC and DANCING for the play, be it intermission tunes, or orchestral accompanyment for an opera... or ballet steps for a dance performance of 'Vynock Lake'. Just hand each player a set of macros for thethe danceflourishes they need to make, lines they need to say, or music they need to play, and then get them to execute the macros at the appropriate time.
You could even haveImage Designers and Tailorsset up shop beforehand, offering to make everyone over in the "latest fashions" for a night at the theater...
...but it'll probably require too much organization and participation for most people to get something on this scale organized, let alone carried off well. Nice pipe dream, though.
