Thread: I love Mos Eisley

So tonight I learned that my performance troupe is, for all intents and purposes, disbanding. Our leader is leaving the game, and it seems like the others aren't playing much, or have left their former guild. I'm not exactly sure what brought all of this on, but it was disappointing to say the least. And, while it's disappointing, I haven't given up hope. I think I'm going to actively search for a new troupe, or perhaps form one of my own. I haven't exactly decided yet.

So, I go to Mos Eisley for some dancing in relaxation, hoping to find a mid sized group of atk performers, noobs as they may be, and I wasn't disappointed. I was in group and I decided to ask the dreaded question, "so who here is planning to keep their entertaining skills?" And, unlike in Theed or Coronet when the general answer is always, "HELL NO, THIS IS BORING SH*T," I was pleasantly surprised to hear about 6 people in a row, very quickly pipe up with, "me," and "I am," and "this is so fun it's addicting" The only thing I could say, out of shock on groupchat was "yay!" LOL I then quickly told them all to put me on their friends list and contact me at any time should they have any questions or need something.

I taught them the virtues of /bandflo and /changeband, and warned them against spamming for tips, and how interacting and putting on a good show will gain them tips as opposed to spam which will get them ignore. I even helped them out with technical questions about which stats to migrate, or where to find some pretty clothes. It was such a joy to be in a group of fully atk people who actually wanted to entertain. It gave me hope after my earlier disappointment. I can see I'm going to have to be spending more time in Mos Eisley.

I can't wait until Publish 10. That and the hope of Mos Eisley makes me think that we can make things better again. It's up to us to train the noobs and show them the enjoyment of entertaining before they get discouraged and bitter. Maybe we can start repopulating the other Cantinas with these people. Ya never know, it might make a difference.

Oh, and lest I forget...I got tipped more frequently in Mos Eisley tonight from the newbies than I have in the past month altogether.

LOL...no. I mean to say, I was tipped more *frequently* tonight than all month long. Even if it was only 100 credits. It reminds me of the good old days, before people became jaded and stopped tipping entertainers. It almost seems like all the new players consider it polite and a way of course to tip the entertainers. They probably got that from reading the manual.

Whatever the case, it's still nice to be appreciated, and I hope all of these new players can breathe some life into this game and an ongoing appreciation for us. Like I said, it's up to us to keep it this way. I'm trying to do my part.

Going into those cities is like going into a whole new world.... They are like 3rd world children who have no idea how the outside world is like...

Yes, but it's those 3rd world children who will grow up to be tomorrow's 1st world entertainers... if they're cared for and nurtured when they're young.

Good for you, Drygo! I did this very thing for about a week and a half straighta little while ago. I suddenly had this terrible feeling that if the new young entertainers didn't have any exposure to how the entertainment world is supposed to be, that they would see people AFKing and just think that's what entertainers are supposed to do. They'll learn what they're exposed to... if they see how much fun being there and playing the game can be, they'll be a lot more likely to stick with it. If they see nothing but zombies, well, that leaves a lasting impression as well.

Not only that, but what of the new patrons? It doesn't take long for Novice Brawler "X" to see AFKers all over the cantina, and decide right off that there's no point in tipping... even if it says in the manual they should. Those new non-entertainers may just be the ones sticking around when today's l337z move on to the next hot game title. Shall we let them think less of entertainers now, and develop into tomorrow's entertainer bashers?

If only we could get 5 ATK masters on each serverto take shifts in Eisley, to inspire and lead by example, perhaps therein might lie one part ofthe future salvation of the entertainer professions.

I really like the cantina in Mos Entha. I wish more cantinas had an actual stage like in Mos Entha. Way back when I started, Mos Entha was a happening place, now its just another ghost town.

In reply to this thread, I think that dancers are some of the best people in the galaxy. I first started playing about two months ago, and I found that entertaining seemed something easy to do, while I learned the game a bit, and its interface. I'm still a dancer (almost master), and I intend to keep it. I do want to segue a bit into bio-engineering, but dancing is what I do when I want to have fun, not work at a craft. And crafting IS work, I don't care what anyone says. My alt is a master tailor and almost master architect, I go on to my dancer to take a break, talk to people and just have some fun.
The other day when I playing my bio and I needed some dance/music buffs due to DNA sampling, I came into the cantina, asked for a buff from a master dancer. She ignored me the whole time and didn't even thank me for the 10k tip. So yes, in my opinion, there are worse things that afk dancers, that would be rude/inconsiderate dancers. But all in all, it's still my favorite profession!
