Thread: CLICKY FOR MACRO HELP!

The purpose of this thread is to help new dancers make macros to grind their way to master. This applies to hologrinders as well as genuine entertainers. However, before we get into the macro help, we should make everyone aware of a few things.

We as a entertainer community generally frown upon the use of macros for the purpose of grinding AFK. That being said, we realize that, with the Jedi path being what it is, there are going to be people parading in and out of our beloved profession on their way to attaining their Jedi slot. These people, naturally, are probably not going to care about actually entertaining anyone. They want to get in and get out as quickly as possible, which is not their fault and I'm certainly not going to blame them for just wanting to get an undesired profession over with. We also realize that some entertainers dislike the grind to dancer. To this end, we are providing you with a guide to macro making. First, though, a few suggestions:

1) Please, for the love of God, don't put any spamming or emotes in your macro. Nobody wants to hear you smile or clap or puke every 10 seconds. And BELIEVE US, asking for a heal (or a tip)with every other flourish won't get you anywhere except on many, many people's ignore lists.

2) If you do need to go AFK,some dancers consider it a courtesy to stand to the side or near the bar of the cantina, rather than front and center. If you are grouped, you are going to get the healing experience whether they're watching you or not; and chances are, if you're AFK they're not going to tip you anyway.

3) It is always a possibility that if you go AFK, you will be removed from the group in favor of another, more active (read: present) entertainer. When that entertainer leaves, the group leader might reinvite you... so it's a really, REALLY good idea to put a /join macro in your command. This also helps in case the group accidentally gets disbanded, which has been known to happen.

4) If you ever find yourself in the position of entertainer group leader, DO NOT GO AFK until you pass it off to an ACTIVE member of the group. That's a surefire way to make everyone unhappy, split up the groups and get everyone less experience.

That being said... let the macro making commence!

A BASIC macro for a novice entertainer would read something like this:

/startdance basic;/join;/pause 1;/flourish 1;/pause 8;/flourish 2;/pause 8;/flourish 3;/pause 8;/flourish 4;/pause 8;/macro dance (where dance is the name of the macro you create)

You can get experience for flourishes every 8 seconds. The flourish you are currently on may not be finished yet, but this will get you the maximum experience in the shortest amount of time. Each dance has a total of 8 flourishes available; however, most dances don't have all 8 that are functional. Many dances have repeats of other dances' flourishes... most master dancers I know tend to only use the first three flourishes of all exotic dances. I myself only use the first two.

Macros are fully customizable. You can make the pauses as long as you want to; you can do whichever flourishes you want to in whichever order you want; as you get more dancer skills (such as smokebomb, dazzle, etc) you can add those to your macro. You will VERY likely have more than one dancer macro. As your skill increases, you should always modify the dance you choose to reflect that, so that you get the most xp you can. For example, once you reach dance 4 in the entertainer skill, you should not still be doing footloose or basic. You should then start doing formal. Onceyou reach master dancer, it is recommended that you do the dancer's knowledge tree first, because that is the tree that gains you new dances (and therefore more xp). Some dancers prefer to do the techniques tree first now, since that is the tree that improves your mind buff. It's just a matter of your prerogatives. If you're hologrinding, you probably don't care much about mind buffing.

I welcome the thoughts and additions from all other dancers, as I am sure the new dancers do. And Panthu, if you could sticky this, I would appreciate it very much!

Thank you, I am just sick of AFKers and especially the ones right inside the door of the cantina...you know the same ones who are spamming for heals, tips and emoting. The end of holo grinding can not come soon enough.

Also, anyone comes into my cantina and goes AFK...they get the boot. I just ban them and they are kicked outside then unban them ....unless they make it a habit.

Booted from the game, or booted from the group? As long as you're dancing and flourishing, you won't get booted from the game. However, there's nothing in the world that will keep you from getting booted by the group if the leader decides you have to go. All you can do is put in the /join command and hope they'll invite you back when they have room.

Unfortunately, while the links are a wonderful space-saver, most people aren't going to go into a thread just to finda link to ANOTHER thread. If they're here to find stuff like this, they are unfortunately going to need a gigantic neon sign reading "CLICK ME, FOOL!" Hence the title of this thread.

Geez! It took me 3 days to figure out what that said! Of course with the amount of Accarragm I've been imbibing the lastfew weeks, coupled with the fact I'm legally blonde, its a wonder I have any brain cells left! *insert your own joke here*

FuschiaD, great post. It was very helpful. I do have one questions. Being a new master dancer, do you or anyone you know have a macro for mind buffing? I'm having trouble figuring out the flurish per second ratio to give folks a good mind buff. I know to use the first 2 or 3 flurishes in exotic 3 since they are the shortest, but what should my pause be? Short of keeping an egg timer next to my monitor what is the average time to give them the maximum buff?

And personally, I'm the type of entertainer who likes to stay w/ my character and not go afk. It's taken me quite a while to reach master because I don't grind when at work. I think it gives the customers a feel of one-on-one attention instead of 'follow the instructions the mind bot gives you'. I like to talk to the folks and learn about them. I think that's what being an entertainer is all about.

Thanks for all the help.
