I started my novice entertainer yesterday and used the player search option to find other entertainers/dancers to train me in my first 2 dancing boxes/heal boxes ... about 20 names came up in coronet... 6 of which were listed as AFK.. so i didn't send them a tell.
I asked all 14 of the others who weren't listed as AFK if they would mind training me in Dancing 1 and dancing 2..... not 1 response....
I assumed they were bots with auto-AFKoff.. but were in fact AFK.
To test a theory, I later did a search for all entertainers/musicians and dancers again - but this time I sent a tell:
"If you reply to this /tell within the next 40 seconds, I will bank tip you 7,000 credits"
A sent it to a total of 37 people over 1 hour.
Want to guess how many replied to me?
3.
Yes... out of 37 non-afk listed people, only 3 seemed to actually be at the keyboard (and they were given the bank tip).
I got a few replies from 19 of them about 1-2 hours later, asking for the tip... but I told them I asked them over 2 hours ago and the offer was only available if they responded within 40 seconds of my /tell
this would explain to me why every time I see a cantina I can't even get a mumble out of anybody... even the "non-afk" people are in fact AFK.
Yeesh... I was using macros like everybody else for my flourishes, etc.. but I was at the keyboard.
The second I saw someone enter the cantina (oh and I dance inside the cantina... not in the doorway like those idiots... god that is so annoying, even when I was a customer with my commando character), I would /greet them, say hello - wave, or something.... only a few ever bothered to actually say anything, but you know what it actually accomplished?
I got all of those combat people to actually WATCH me so I got tons of healing experience... almost every person I said hi to while wearing my novice entertainer tag stopped watching the afk'ers and watched me instead... it was amazing.... they didn't want to chat - that was fine... but wow did my healing experience sky-rocket.
It does in fact seem that combat professions who come to heal fatigue, will in fact watch ATK people over AFK people - even if we are novice and heal slower than all the masters, etc.
At one point I had 15 people watching me for fatigue in the coronet cantina cus I was making idle-chat with them, or just using emotes at them (/wave, /smile, /greet, etc). There were at least 10 other novices around me, but they were all spamming their macros demanding tips, healing, etc every 5 seconds... (I don't run macros asking for tips or healing.. I find people will just heal me even if I don't request it once they see my action is 1/2 down... I seem to get a few nice tips too without ever asking).
I dunno... but to me as a novice, I seem to be earning experience a lot faster than all those AFK novices - people seem willing to give their fatigue to me if I show I am actually there (and not spamming like all the other idiots).
But it was quite sad seeing nearly 40 people I sent /tells to and almost none were actually there... just sad.

I no longer get experience points so never have any way of knowing if people are watching or not. But often if I am dancing near a group of AFK robots who are all grouped, after about 30 or 40 minutes I'll suddenly get a group invite or I'll get a tell asking if they can group with me. I can only assume that happens because someone checking in on their robot realized that they are not gaining healing experience. Many many patrons do indeed prefer to watch ATK entertainers. And I don't think it's always because they enjoy the interaction since so many never really respond to the attempt to make conversation. I think they do not like the fact that robots are being rewarded with experience when they've just taken all sorts of damage and decay to their armor/weapons in an attempt to earn their combat experience or credits.
So hang in there and continue enjoying the entertaining.

The gods, this speaks volumes . . . . so very, very sad . . . .

Note too that any combat person who progresses beyong the door crowd into the cantina proper is probably looking for a real entertainer. (I know I do).
Also a lot of ATK ents won't bother talking to the customers and will just have group chat up. They won't bother looking a spatial (spam hell) and will miss tells.
But I think those are the minority.
Mostly people just turn off their AFK tag.
I always chat join the Cantina channel when I am on Bloodfin and sometimes there are a few people in there. That may make training a bit easier.
Or at least it will make finding training easier for others - since you will be there.
