Hi,
I'm brand new to this profession and fairly new to the game i was wondering if a 4/1/0/4 would work well for a dancer.

It depends on what you want to do with dancer. That template would give you the most buff ability short of mastering but you will only have one dancer level dance. If buffing is our focus then you really only need 4000 if you want healing also then you might do better with 4202. However if you want the most fun and variety from dancing then I would do 0242 and get all but the two master dances.

Three master dances. 
But yes, it really depends mostly on what you want out of your dancing. More performance options come from 4040, with all but the three master dances and most of the effects variants. 4000 if all you care about is having some buffing ability (75% buffs at that level, with the potential of getting up to 100% with SEAs). You get the idea.
