Ok, I've played for a month now, and I understand they must dance/play music for 3.5mins minimum to get the full 2hour buff, or 2minutes minimum to get buff at all, but that is where my knowledge ends. I would like to know what exactly needs to be done by a dancer/musician in order to give buffs. I've listened for 4minutes exactly and did /stoplisten, but did not recieve buffs(I stopped before the entertainer said stop, but I figured after 4mins, it would be fine). Why didn't I get buffs that time?

Some entertainers will "direct their performance to you" but some will not, and you still recieve buffs...why is that? And does an entertainer need to direct their performance to you?

Can a looping buff macro be made without a 3rd party program?

Thanks all, in advance.

Well, how they're SUPPOSED to work and how they DO work are two different things. We're entertainers and therefore undeserving of any time or attention from the developers, the CSR's and SOE in general. So, the fact that our buff code is, at this time, pretty much completely broken really doesn't faze them. However, I can give you a general summary of how a buff works on a good day... you know, if you spit three times over your shoulder, chant George Lucas' name while dancing inside a white circle.

Entertainer buffs have a two minute watching/listening minimum. That means, if you stop watching/listening before those two minutes are up, the buff will not take. After the two minutes, the strength and duration of the buff depends on how long you watch and how often the entertainer is flourishing. The more rapidly an entertainer is flourishing, the less time it will take. For example, my buffing macro has me flourishing five times every 8 seconds, which is the maximum number, and my buffs take between 3 and a half to four minutes. There are two ways to apply a buff. Thanks to the plethora of AFK zombies in the cantinas these days, the widely accepted method is to be grouped. THIS IS NOT NECESSARY. For the sake of argument, when you enter a cantina, do the live entertainers a favor and ask if anyone is buffing, instead of asking for an invite to the group. (This is a particular pet peeve of mine ) The second way, which is the preferred method of *real* entertainers, is to use the /setperform command. It is not as stable as grouping... it is invariably affected by random things, like whether you are standing or sitting, if you /watch before or after they /setperform, if you have a set of vibroknucklers equipped, if your mother's name began with an A - F, and the price of eggs on Dathomir. However, when it works, it's just as effective as being grouped.

Hope this helps and my obvious bitterness and antagonistic attitude toward SOE right now didn't color things too much.

And please..Puhleeez! Stand still & within 10m of the performer, don't emote, don't meditate/powerboost, don't eat or drink, don't equip/unequip your armor or weapon, don'tsneeze and for cripe's sake don't flinch!

In all seriousness, we really do want you to get a good buff. Every buff that fails is just one more combat player resenting us (& we've already got our share). We don't know what all will break a buff (the list above is a good start, sans the sneeze & flinch). And we really & truly appreciate everyone who understands that we're doing the best we can with the buggy code that we've got.

I appreciate the response. I completely understand it now, or to as far of an extent as I will.

Thanks alot!
