Thread: Is there a cantina party 101 ?

To cut a long story short, I know this a very short notice, but I will be the main host for a party set in a rebel aligned public cantina on Chimeara, in about 16 hours...
I'm an experienced dancer and can put quite a show, including the group ones, and a band will be there (The Nebula Band) but I'm not sure if that'll be sufficiant... There will be plenty of entertainers *and* non-entertainers, so I'm looking for tips on how to manage such an event without going (too much) insane.

The party is supposed to start at about 21.00 GMT/16.00 east coast, if you want to be there or have other question you can contact Nelini on Chimeara.

Some things can't be planned and the best parties just seem to *happen* as though they have a life of their own. Trivia contests are always a lot of fun. There are several web sites you may use to quickly draw up 20 or so Star Wars trivia questions. The complexity of the questions isn't as important as the competitive atmosphere so be sure to have a good mix of easy & hard ones. Also gambling using chance cubes & dice makes for a good game.

If you're in a player city, make sure there is an Entertainer trainer outside the door and encourage the non-entertainers to drop an easy to get novice skill such as medic or scout for the night so they can train novice entertainer and dance along. Be sure to spend a lot of time dancing basic with them and calling /bandflourishes..they'll hate giving upentertainer when the party is over. Most importantly though, encourage the entertainers to chat in spatial rather than group chat. Old habits die hard but we entertainers tend toeasily fall intoparty mode and if we're chatting in spatial it'll draw everyone else into the party.

Don't worry over the little things that inevitably come up just as the party is getting started. Things happen and your party will still be fun without all of your plans falling into place. If something doesn't work out as expected..just keep right on going..more than likelyyou'll be the only one who'll notice if anything is missing.

I'm already looking forward to this

What's "sufficient" depends on what you want to achieve with the party, isn't it? Since Tena set up our gig with you, I have no idea myself how large this event is supposed to be... did you advertise it in any way (because I haven't seen notice of it yet on the Chimaera forum), or is it more of a private event?

And also, since it happens in a rebel-aligned NPC city and not in a place controlled by players, it could presumably be easy for people to turn up and spoil the fun if it gets too widely known - a few weeks ago at one of the Anchorhead Revival Parties(which is intended as non-buff, non-armor, as an aside for you non-Chimaerans) we had a few Dark Jedi turn up fully buffed and looking for a fight... we wouldn't want this to happen here too.

We'll just see how it goes I guess

Well, that's pretty much why I didn't mention the cantina's name... Call me paranoid, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

If you can find rich benefactors you might consider a raffle. I'm not sure of the best way to do this, but it can be fun!

EU's saturday night open house is famous for our 50/50 raffles. Now this is not something you can really do last minute, but it may be something to consider in the future.

What Loni, our leader does, is put renamed chance cubes for sale on a special vendor in the guild hall. Throughout the week and on the night of the party people come through and buy the tickets. Your number is the order in which you bought the ticket. For example if you bought the first ticket that week you are #1 and so on. Loni determines this by the order in which she recieve the emails of a sale from the vendor. Then at a set time at the party on Saturday she roles one a 100 sided dice and whichever number comes up wins 50% of the ticket sales. The other 50% goes to pay all the entertainers that performed that night and to cover EUs cost for holding the party. Occaisonally we'll have richer patrons that wish to show their appreciation of the night throw in an extra 500k or so and that of course brings an even bigger crowd.

It's always a lot of fun and everyone shows up every week. But the big part is not only does it bring in a crowd it helps support the starving entertainers.

I think you can get a lotto droid to do this for you now. I just got to try out the race droid this weekend and they work pretty well.
