Thread: Default Deny Service
I had thought about this myself but came to the conclusion that while it would work, it would be too much of a crazy hassle to the Entertainer to be worth it unless as an "all else fails" solution to afking. I, in all honesty, think it is too extreme as you have proposed it, although it is an idea in the right direction.
I do,however, think all buffs, even passive ones, need to be given only with specific targeted consent by the Entertainer.
In other words, you have to do something like a /setperf on *anyone* you have to buff. It is just that, you can /setperf anyone who are you grouped with(so you can still do multi-person buffs).
This would, at the very least, eliminate buff bots but still allow afk entertainers to heal for xp *and* make things easier to manage for the entertainer. Most of the afk for xp issues will go away once hologrinding stops, its really only going to be the afk buff bots that will be the biggest hassle left. And requiring a targeted /setperf for any buff would resolve that.
I used to hate this idea. Search some of my posts for my vehement arguments, but they boiled down to the unrealistic nature of denying service and the logistical nightmare it can be to select people in an audience.
Fortunately, I can withdraw those complaints as I will soon be a nonplayer.
And to be honest, I don't think things can be worse by having targeted performs. Some may grief by getting up in your face and prevent you from doing your job, but those people will grief you in a variety of ways anyway.
For the most part, people will back away from you if you say, "Hey, I need to see all of you if I'm to do my job." So, that logistics nightmare can be made to a mere annoyance.
Consider me reversing my position on this matter.
But it won't stop the AFKers, if that's your hope. As pointed out, people can group, and macros can cycle through people in a group and run commands. Buffbots will become group heal bots.
Of course, if /danceheal was radial menu only, then that'll help. I hate that idea because it can be such a pain in a crowded cantina, but I'm more open to it.
I definitely like the intentions of your idea. However, I have to chime in with others who think it won't be very feasible to do, especially in the very crowded cantinas, and especially if you're actually trying to do a performance at the same time. I don't see anything inherently wrong with a patron coming in and watching who they want to watch. It makes real-life and roleplay sense. I never really even cared one way or the other on /denyservice. But, it honestly didn't appear to me to be realistic to deny anyone service. After all, you can't really do this in real life. Now, if they had a bouncer profession? Maybe, heh. But, it's not like you can actually just blind someone or deafen someone to keep them from watching you (Although, hey, that might be cool if we had that power, lol). But, I agree that this would be too much of a hassle for a dancer. I can even see some nights when I'm feeling lazy and just want to dance and not worry about targeting or whatever (usually when I drop my master title because I don't feel like giving out buffs because I'm tired or whatever), and the thought of having to target every single person that walks in the door would just make me not go in the first place.
Having said that, I do think certain things should require more active participation by the entertainers. And, using your idea for things like this would be a good thing. Buffs, for example. I know that you can pretty much macro anything. But, I think, as someone pointed out, if this option were taken out for buffing, and instead required a manual radial dial action, thereby preventing afk'ers from buffing, I'd be all for that.
