Thread: My first impressions of NGE...
I got in right when TC5 went up. I wasn't even paying attention; I gave myself until 1:30pm to try. I managed to get in shortly after that and then spent 30 minutes stuck as everyone else tried to get in (Falcon ramping issue, for those tracking on the forums)
My TC5 toon is Honeewoo, Rodian Entertainer.
So far? I am digging it. I haven't had the "Star Wars" feel about SWG in a very long time. Having all the voices and the stuff was amazing. I went through the n00b tutorial. If you guys do get in, take the time to go through it. It's totally worth it.
As far as the question about whether an Ent can fight? I died once already. Yes, you don't draw aggro, but if you make the wrong move, something will kick your ass.
I liked the Entertainer quest for the tutorial and it was neat to get some new loot. Nothing fancy, but it's still cool. Ents never have any Ent-specific loot, so this is totally cool.
I still don't understand the profession screens, but the grinding is the same. I like the new starting character outfits *and* the "uniform" pack of clothes which came with the Ent quest.
Yes, you'll have toolbars still, but they'll be different I think. They don't work yet, so I can't really test. YES, I have a repeating macro going right now. But I'm simply calling back to itself not using hotkeys. I just made a quick one to see what I could and couldn't do.
I didn't even notice that I had received pretty sparkers as a reward from Han Solo, which are not tradeable. I'm only skilled enough to use one of them right now.
I didn't realize how the combaty thing was working until part of one of han's quests was for me to get some engines from some droids. You kill things by clicking on them. I was trying to examine and it started firing on me. I was so shocked I just ran around. And tried clicking on other things to get the motors. And then I'd agro another one. I figured out when I went back (after my cloning center trip) to get the motors. you have to kill these droids. But it's easy, if you just clickclickclickclick really fast.
I followed some space quest to this gamma station thing and saw some HYOOOOGE nasty beasts (one reminded me of an acklay). I walked right by all of them. As long as you don't click something that is agressive, you are cool.
It is really odd to not be able to /examine things. Oh...and...
When I hit a button to move my toon so as to stop dancing...I actually *stop dancing*. Mid-flo and everything!
But then, I'm still playing around with stuff now that the exciting n00b quest is over.
My first impression is "bleh". Anything the NGE offers to my dancer I can already do - with the exception of exploring without aggro, which does not sit well with my roleplayer view. But I'll be losing a lot of stuff, in exchange for stuff I already could do if I wanted in the old system - and since I don't want to ID or play music, I gain NOTHING.
Can we fight still? I can fire a CDEF pistol, and kick and hit stuff. I'd not call that fighting compared to having a hybrid master dancer/TKM.
All in all, more of the same so far.

It did that in the tutorial but then stopped working when I had to fight those droids. Luckily they die easy
And thanks! I didn't know about the tilde.

Another tip: click and hold the mouse button. It seems to autorepeat so you dont have to keep clicking repeatedly.
Thanks it started to have my figure tired
I am on the TC as well but have not been playing an entertainer. I have been playing a spy, but somethings are still relevant to entertainer.
The most important negative, as a former dancer, is that no where in the tutorial has it been suggested that I ever vist an entertainer, nor are any other profession interactions mentioned. As a noob I would have no idea what an entertainer would be useful for. Gee, that is a must have in the tutorial and its missing! So, much for social interation becoming a big issue.
Star Warsy feel- YES. In fact there is extensive audio with Han Solo and the actor is so good that it sounds like its actually Harrision Ford. Besides him there is a lot of C3PO helper talk that sounds like the original actor as well. This is a BIG PLUS! Observation- Star Wars was about overthrowing the Empire, the tutorial, just like the movie, is all about a rebel perspective.
Graphics- They have not said they have been changed but the screen looks better to me now. But, that could be my current setup for playing the old game.
Interface- Well the interface runs like a first person shooter, kinda like Medal of Honor. You'll be holding down the "w" key a lot to move forward. It also seems "light" as if a lot of function has been lost, but since the tutorial is not good in discussing the interface and various buttons/functions its hard to be sure if there is true function lost.
Funniest moment- When I completed a quest and was awarded my "Offical SPY Uniform"!!! LMAO way way too funny.
Bottom line- The game is being ported to X-box. The changesare aboutgettingthe game into an x-box marketable configuration. This means something like character individuality will suffer. There aren't hybred-templates and infact there aren't templates at all. Its a ridged this is your class and everyone in the class is the same at each level system. The combat is fast, just as advertised. There IS a better Star Wars feel. However, what appears to be missing is the concept anybody would play the game long term, rather the intent appears to be enjoy the game via two or three professions or them all( you have to starta new charactereach time) and after maybe six (6) months you'll be done with the game. Such is the difference between X-box and PC games.
