Wow, I'm so sorry guys. But I was deeply offended and saddened at what I have read on my own Server's (Sunrunner) community board that I just didn't know where else to vent except here where others might have had similar experiences or understanding. I just can't stop shaking my head at this, and was wondering how you guys might feel if confronted by garbage like this on you server (or if you already have).

Anyway, thanks all

Annie

Sorry hun.

I've never had much of a problem with guild only AFK buff bots, even before we had PC cantinas and they were just set up in a house... but publically advertising for afk ents that aren't even guildmates does seem a little yuck. Starsider is a good mix of RP and PvP I think, we have some PvEpower gamers too (like my own dear Dragul) but it's really hard to power game in SWG so they seem to just kind of waffle, heh.

Anyway, on my server we've always had a mix of people just wanting healing/buffs and people who really enjoy interacting with ents for chat or RP. For the gamer who just wants fast access to buffs/healing and doesn't want to bother with finding/tipping/talking to ents, this isn't really anything new. The only new thing is that now they think there are ents who are interested in doing this with out even knowing them, where as in the past they would have talked a guildmate into it or gotten a second account.

That part is kind of a bummer, that the proffesion has gotten a rep for just being an easy way to make some creds while you aren't playing. I've been screaming about that for months though, lol.

In all fairness to the poster in the other forum I see what he is trying to do and why. I don't agree with it and I am a bit offened by the the avdvert however. It seems if someone form the city wanted this so badly they could get a 2nd account. . . ./sigh

Ok, I just went back and read all of the poster's replies... other than being a little snippy and put out at being yelled at, this seems like a nice guy and a good patron. I don't think it makes anymore sense for us to hamper non-ents gameplay than it does for the AFKs to hamper the ATKs. He was right, I've had tons of offers from big cities to dance in their cantinas and bases for a salary... I won't do it. I don't do it for my own cantina, I'm sure as goodness not going to move to someone else's town where I see their citizens and passers through once every three hours. It just isn't fun.

PC cantinas and guildleaders/mayors who were trying to keep them filled 24/7 weren't in the original ent concept. The whole point was to make people go out of their way, but PC cantinas undermine that plan (as did houses before them where bots used to live). I was always quick to counter any complaint of "why aren't there ever any ents at so and so OP" with a "well, you can use search or get to know your local ents and hire them for hunts"... but I don't say that anymore.

Why? Because in the past I always wore my Dancer tag and came running (even if I was out hunting) if anyone sent me a tell. I never refused any offers to hire me for a hunt and I had a lot of fun doing it. I don't so much now. It's just changed a little. Now I don't get as many tells from strangers, and if I do I say "please make sure there is not an afk ent already there in the cantina, if there isn't I will come". I never would have made people wait before... more than that, I check too. I do a search and see if an AFK ent is showing up in search and where. I can't help it, nothing gets under my skin worse than leaving a perfectly good lair/guild hunt/whatever just to show up to an empty cantina other than an AFK buff bot and having the would-have-been patron reply with a "oh, don't worry about it, I watched the bot". Why did they not think to send me a tell I always wonder, anyway...

Just like buff bots weren't in the original plan, mayors with a need for 24-7 entertainment playing to a very sparse crowd weren't either. When there were very few cantinas, it was somewhat reasonable to say to a player "well, just check around... you might have to go to a more populated area"... but now that we have a gazillion cantinas everywhere, it's a really strange idea that _most_ of them will be empty _most_ of the time.

If it's going to be like this (buffbots and PC cantinas everywhere), it doesn't mean that the old style of Dancer play won't still work sometimes in some ways (like events). This is already my experience. It does however mean that we need something else to do during the times people are using non-interacting ents instead of us. I think the dungeon sounds good, the new mishes will hopefully be good, many other things might come that would be fun while we aren't being used. An ATK player just can't offer the same kind of 24-7 service an AFKer can... we can however offer interaction and real entertainment and I think that doesn't have to go away.

Man this is a long post! Anyway, we just need to roll with the punches... the game is changing for us, maybe a lot, but it doesn't mean it won't be just as much fun as it was pre-holo/public-bots.

Wow, I really am taking too long to post (won't we all be happy when girls.mmoghell.com goes live and Panthu has something else to babble about?)...

Leivi said what I was trying to much shorter.

Anyway, sorry it made you feel yuck Annie. I have felt like thattoo, but I really do think the class still has a ton of hope. *hugs*

Thanks guys for understanding where I am coming from. I needed to vent my frustration and disappointment, so thanks for being kind enough to listen.

I still can't help but be offended - I don't think the guy is bad or even intended to spread such a message with his post, just that the idea he posted was in extremely bad taste. My reaction upon first reading itwas thatan advertisement like that is not a solution to populating a player cantina, rather it was endorsing and encouraging afk entertainers over atk. I understand that it is difficult to populate player cantinas, but encouraging the bf bot infection to spread is an indication that we might as well bereplaced by npcs. What riles me even more is the fact that whilst I acknowledge he apologised and admitted it wasn't very well thought out, and has since advertised a post ammending that, i just don't find it sincere for the pure fact that when he edited his post he changed the thread title to "Mayor gets slapped around". As far as I am concerned, that isneithersincere, humble or apologetic, and under a title like that.... well **spreads her hands**. All I can say is I wish I had as much zen to see it otherwise

Cheers all, and thanks again

He had changed it to "Seeking all entertainers... (including AFK)" or something like that to try to get what he was wanting with out offending ATKs, but he kept getting yelled at so he changed it to that. Which is a bummer really, all in all he seems to be interested in helping real ents. He just isn't blind to the usefullness of afkers, goodness knows it's hard to ignore them now.

You seem to have missed my point - the thread title was changed to "Mayor gets slapped around" which is nothing more than an invitation to incite a flame riot. If youare looking at the wrong, check it again - but as far as I'm concerned this issue is finished.

He changed it twice... first it was "seeking afk ents... (any level)", then the nicer"seeking all ents... (even afk)", and then the smart butt "mayor gets smacked around".

I get your point, I just didn't think you saw the first change before the smart butt last one... I think the nice change was in response to your post and I just didn't want you to have missed it.

I know exactly how it is. We dont want afk dancers takin away from those of us who are at the keyboard trying to make it a social experience for everyone else. Why should those of us who actually sit there not be hired, while those who are away get easy credits. Not to mention thatthose of us who are dancers are not objects to just be thrown around. Im really sorry hun But we try to stick together right?
