Thread: Got entertainment?

I would like to see more entertainment value out of my character and not more "power" in line with that thinkign I would like to see the following changes/additions.

Play music on a mount.

Ok I admit it ever since I heard mounts would be in the game I have had dreams of riding across the plains strumming my Mandoviol and singing “brave brave sir robin”. What I propose is this. We should be able to play any non stationary instrument while mounted. We could flourish as well, but this is a show only deal no music EXP and no healing. One could argue of course that what’s the harm in getting music EXP and I agree but since you can’t walk and play this would be a privilege only for mounted entertainers an that hardly seems fair

/Mirror

This command simply switches to the mirror opposite of base dances and flourishes. Basic’s famous Moonwalk 3left/6right/3left would be inverted to 3right/6left/3right. This gives us better drift correction (all dances currently tend to drift right) but much more options for shows with multiple dances. A pair of dancers doing formal flourish 1 would split in opposite direction for big wow factor and since it mirrors the base dance too they would also bases dance away from each other. This command simply must be a toggle for it to be of much good IE “/mirror on”, “/mirror off”. If the DEVs are extremely kind “/mirror flo #” could be for the next flourish only leaving the base dance unchanged.

Interrupt flourish on move

If you move while dancing you stop dancing, but the current flourish completes its animation. It did not work this way in beta and I would like it changed back. If I’m in the middle of a long formal flourish and move or /stopdance to scold someone or other such role play it is silly to have to wait all that time for the flourish to finish. I want to stop NOW on a dime.

Color options on special effects

It would be nice if we could change the color of our lights and smoke for even more fun with them. I would prefer that we have both a /<effect> <hexcolor> command and a pull down with a palette. Given a choice Ill suffer the hex version as it is the most versatile.

One button to control them all

I would like a special effects button that opens a menu similar to the /startdance menu to use any special effect in our arsenal then after clicking ok the button will fire that effect until it is changed(by right clicking it). I have a lot of stuff on my hot bar and this would help make things easier. Sure I can /smoke1 or /dazzle, but Im lazy and want the special effects uber button of power.

Tempo

/tempo 1-10 would simple change the playback speed of the base dance and flourishes to up or down tempo a dance. Now 10 levels may be much but you get the idea. In the case of temp default should be current dances are midrange like 5 or 6 so we can up and down tempo. Be sure that the range of tempo does NOT allow ridiculous playback speeds.

Volume

/volume 1-10 would make an instrument sound louder or softer. Ten levels may be too much but you get the idea. Default would be all current instruments are at volume 10 therefore they could only get softer. Otherwise everyone will just turn them up to 10 anyhow.

Solo command

For musicians the /solo command simple makes him take 4 steps forward while still playing.

Corus Lines

Allow three chorus lines “chorus1,2,3” and then let it function like the musician /bandflourish <instrument name>. A dancer can join any of the three chorus lines and be band flourished by either /bandflourish (all dancers) or say /bandflourish chorus2 (just their chorus line)

The Buff

Please make our buff more skill centric and less spam flourish centric. Spaming flourishes is counter productive to putting on a good show and is just as easily macroed.

Player owned Cantina/Theater

First off Theaters currently do not heal anyone and can not have items placed on stage. Second please please PLEASE allow us to have an approved entertainer list and only they may perform in our venue, it is far easier to decide who we want to be able to perform then it is to stay on line 24/7 and ban those we don’t. I for one refuse to run a venue in the game.

Organize new flourishes correctly

I can feel it in the wind Sony, the next two expansions will finaly see our new flourishes so a word of caution. The original flourishes were organized correctly for “mixing” a prime example is that most of the flourish 3’s are turns so they all fit together if you shift gears while dancing. Take the same care in adding the new ones make sure that when possible all flourishes of the same number share something in common so they fit together nicely. Along the same lines many complain that flourish 7 is the same in most dances I would like to humbly request this remain unchanged it is an invaluable tool for shifting gears smoothly when mixing is not the desired result.

I would love something that would let me dance toward (or away from) a person. It's just silly that I have to stop dancing to get out of someone's lap, or hug a good friend.

Not sure how this would be exploitable, but maybe limit it to healing range or something for the target.

Adding my plea with yours, I think it's really important for us to keep our "flo tools".... it's the only little bit of individual style we get. In a class that tends to appeal to creative types, that's a big deal.

As for all the other ideas, I love them all as much as I did the first time you posted them. Maybe a few can get slipped in with the new dances whenever they happen... /groupflo and a dancer group start and stop are still so needed it's scary.

I think that your changes are novel ones, and i would like to see them in effect too

On the issue of mobility in dancing. I don't see where it's in any way broken to be able to move while dancing. Frankly, most dancers will NOT want to move. People gain their HAMs back faster when they're seated, so they want their entertainment to stand still or it doesn't really help them. And if you off and leave your viewers, you lose out on a lot of xp.

So is it broken if a dancer or musician wants to wander around while performing to get pitiful xp only when flourishing? Hardly. Not in the slightest. It should be allowed.

/agree with Sultrina. The dancers that have been at this thing for a while will tell you that much of the potential for a satisfying game experience depends in large part on the tools that you give us. Because when you get right down to it, you can give us some other content to distract us from our cantina work, but we will always need to go backto the cantinato service the patrons. Ignoring the visual appeal to our class in favor of raw mechanics will turn us into exactly what we are not: mere attendents to battle fatiuge with no incentive for patrons to savor a moment of pure beauty. These suggestions that Sultrina provided helps us do our basic mission in a more satisfying way for both us, and the patrons we serve.

Yes, as psycho as I am about content additions (field and/or just fun props/puzzles/cantina games) I certainly don't want this aspect ignored. I hope they will get a real nod this time, they just make so much sense. Our "revised list" is still mostly talking about dance anims and better ability to use them with others. I think that's how it needs to be at this point. Also, the new dances are coming for sure now, so hopefully they'll be able to work in a few extra commands with them or shortly there after.

I think they have been ignored for whatever reason in the past, but I'm pretty hopeful that they'll see this when they are putting in the new stuff. Goodness knows we have a while to wait for it.

Maybe we need to get the "save the transitions" part added on to our list for the devs too, I had not even thought about the possibility of losing them till this thread.
