Thread: The 30-second buff and other questions

Hi. Just made Master a few days ago, and I've held off buffing people until now. I read The Guide to Buffing and I have a few questions:

1.) When buffing, can you stop the dance, heal your action and then start up again without having to start from scratch? Or must you be constantly dancing (if not flourishing) the entire time non-stop?

2.) How are people doing a full buff in 30 seconds? Are they getting Action buffs from a Doctor and thenjust rapid-fire flourishing for half a minute?

3.) Is it at all possible to give a full buff under 10 minutes without any heals to an unbuffed action pool? Or do you pretty much always need some assistance (heals, stims, spices, food/drink)?

Thanks,

Yes, you can stop, rest, heal yourself most anything as long as your patron doesn't stop watching you or go out of range.

To do a super buff you need to spam flos and yes you do need a Dr's buffs.

As for a buff under 10 minutes without anything, maybe if you have great action and fantastic secondaries. Current thought is that a buff depends on x amount of flos I think its 120 or 150, again its theory.

The macro for that 30 sec buff is on the board under dancer/musician 30 sec buff or something like that. You need to be buffed for it. I always get buffed that way I don't need to even think about being healed until it wears off. Makes things alot simpler. I get quickness buffs, by the way. You don't lose action if you do and I never heal until it runs out.

Good luck!

Just FYI, I doubt the devs intended us to buff in 30 seconds. On the other hand, I have repeatedly asked them for guidance on whether the 30-second buff is an exploit, and they havenever given me any such guidance. I don't know whether they plan to nerf it or not.

I think they might have nerfed the NPC clapping, which was by far the coolest thing about the 30 sec spaz buff imo. I forgot to watch the NPCs when someone was doing one of these, but there was something in the patch notes about NPC ent watching/listening fix.... when will the senseless nerfing end?!?!?

People forget that this is a RPG. A powerbuff is boring, doesn't promote RP, and I'm of the general opinion that most types of "power-gaming" is lame. What's the big hurry? you only get 5 minutes to play per day?I'll stick to dancing for 10 minutes to TALK and ENTERTAIN my customers, thank you very much! Doing such things can lead to great info or business leads for guildmates/reg players, or in general. If that's not game-enriching, what is?

I don't do these insta-buffs. Every dance macro I have written was not designed to go AFK but from the first noob dance they were designed to create a perfectly in sinc dance. While everyone was whining about "formal" and "lyrical" I actually thought those to be a wonderful "in game" experience. Writing the "choreography" for those was quite a challenge since the flourishes are all different lengths and the ending of some didn't match up well with the beginning of another. When I was finished I was as delighted as when I killed my first Rancor! I had a beautiful dance to show off... even though I was probably the only one who noticed.

Anyway.. with the exotic "buff" macro I have the same philosophy. I made a perfectly timed dance routine that looks great. It even has lighting effects because the "art" of is that important to me. If someone asks "can you do it fast?" I tell them they might want to find someone else. On the other hand I've actually got many special compliments for my work.

I really have no judgment on those who do these quick buffs. I've learned over many months you have toplay and enjoy the game in your own way and just ignore the activities of those you disagree with. Kind of like the real thing eh?

I do speed buffing on occasion though for the most part only when I head out to the trade outpost on Dathomir. Usually there's either no entertainers or just the odd one AFK'er there. Before I sorted out using the speed buff macro I'd often get queues of people wanting buffs and 10 minute was just far too long for most, especially when 5 people of the same group want to be buffed. It's worse when even using back to back flourishes I wasn't giving the full 2 hour buff. Having to add extra flourishes just to be able to give the full buff in 10 minutes just doesn't feel right.

Would be nice if they could reduce the time, at least a little bit, make it based on flourishes and the time you've been dancing. Say let the full buff take 6 minutes and some way, either with food or some other system to allow maybe 1-2minute buffs for those that are willing to pay for it.

I still do normal non-speed buffs but with the buffee half the time using the time as an opportunity to grab a drink, or just generally be afk it means it can be a boring time. Some people just don't want to interact no matter how sociable I am.

As a side note from speed buffs I can make quite a lot, last time I was on Dathomir I made around 80k from them, the buff happened to be free as a doc had them leftover. I don't tell anyone set prices, just say to tip what they wish, most seem to go for 10k but it varys. It's not like I need the money as I've made enough from tailoring so I'd be happy with 100c just so I feel like they appreciate what I do. Usually I go there not to make money but just to help out and get away from Tatooine and the normal cantina AFK'ers and their spam.

Ah yes, Dath. People are way too much in a hurry to kill stuff there. Sure, there may be a lack of entertainers on that bleak planet. I've gotten the "10 minutes?? too long" thing from players there. I guess the dancing arts are a bit more unappreciated there than in some places, since i get the impression that Dath is a "power-gamer's" planet.

Yeah Dath does seem to be a power gamer sort of place. Happened by someone's shop the other day who is a real Dath power gamer, he had about 30+ Nightsister lances on display.

I know what you mean about the buffs, before I started fast buffing I'd get some requests but not all that many and the 10 minute time mean't people would often just do without rather than wait for me to get to them. Right now I simply see the current entertainer buff system as impractical for the game.
