It is your account and your subscription, far be it for anyone to tell you how you must play your character in a private house, but may I be as bold to suggest that you will gain a lot more enjoyment from your dancing if you are there ATK actually entertaining. The grind is not longor boring if you are in good company. I myself wouldnt do it even in a private house.

This is very true, but due to computer problems I have been force to Dance alone in my guild cantina. Attempting to go to any of the major cities causes so much lag that I crash. I am trying to get master Dacer for 2 reasons.
- So that when I attend ATK events in PC cantinasI can do all the dances. and the group will not be limited on my account
- When there are no events I can dance in my cantina and earn Xp to convert to Force-Sences Xp.

I think there are probably a lot of people who do it. I believe even Panthu herself has admitted to this (forgive me if I'm wrong Pan!) The fact is, the grind can be boring sometimes. It's repetitive and even the most social of players can get bored with just animating in a cantina day in and day out. I know when I was grinding dancer last time, there were times when I would literally have to just run around Naboo for a while because I got so tired of staring at the same faces and the same four walls. While I'm not a fan of AFKing in any capacity, I know people who do this and would never frown on anyone for it. Whether or not it makes you an AFKer, I don't know, but it certainly doesn't make you a buffbot.

You can't be entertaining if there's nobody else around to watch you. So your afk'ing is affecting nobody but yourself. Therefore, in my opinion, it's fine. It's the encroachment onto the enjoyment of others that I find reprehensible.

If you look over the poll about acceptable afk times I think you'll find the majority said it was acceptable to leave your toon animating while you stepped away for some limited reason. I don't remember too many saying "it's okay if you are in X location or if you have computer issues". From my perspective the very fact that your house has limited access is meaningless since your guildmates are teasing you about it. If they know you dance afk for whatever reason, then you're still sending them the message that it's accceptable if you can justify it. I don't know of a single person who uses an afktainer or buffbot who couldn't give you a justification as to why they did it. We as entertainers are either against afktaining or we aren't. We can't pick and choose and create a slew of grey areas or those who have no respect for the profession we willingly chose because it "spoke" to us will turn the tables on us and easily justify their position.
I'm sorry if that sounds harsh. It's not my intention but I'm a bit muddle headed so am finding it difficult to be articulate. You should also know that I'm one of those entertainers who stopped dancing for bathroom breaks and runs to the kitchen. So my views and opinions may be more extreme than the majority. However, the fact that you came to the board to ask indicates to me that a least part of you thinksafking in your private house is a problem.

I think it's unfortunate that afk'ing in your own house would make you subject to people thinking of you as a hypocrite. I have my own personal views which are very clearcut in my head. That is, as long as you aren't harming anybody else in the process, I have no problem with someone who is afk'ing. You give me a situation, and I can tell you whether it's impacting someone else's gameplay or not.
And, I don't mean just dancing, but even the combat player who's afk outside of the Moenia cantina killing thugs as well. That is taking away the opportunities of other people, while afk dancing in your house, by yourself, when you're house is private is not.
But, anyway, I think Esharra may have put up the poll under my suggestion. She may have been thinking about something similar beforehand, but I know that it came up after I mentioned it on another thread.
My aim in the poll was really just to make a certain point. That is, while most live dancers have their gray areas about when afk is ok and when afk isn't, these very same live players would be willing to give up whatever afk they themselves might be doing for the good of the game if afk'ing could be stopped. It was in direct response to the exact same viewpoint that we're discussing right now. That is, the impression that people are against afk unless it pertains to them. That we are somehow hypocrites. I don't think we are.
It's my opinion, as I said above, that afk is fine as long as you're not hurting somebody else's game. And, I think most "live" dancers who afk, whether alone in their house, or for 5 minutes when they go take a bio break are the kind of people who are using the macros and afk in a muture, responsible way...in a way that the original devs of this game intended afk to be used. And, it's a shame that so many people have decided to abuse this ability. And, it's really the abuse of the ability, the kinds of things like bots that hurt other people's game, that needs to be stopped, moreso than general afk. But, at the same time, in order to stop the abuse of afk, I am more than willing to give up any and all afk that goes beyond 5 minutes or so to stop the abuse. Because, really, what little afk that I do, and what little afk most "live" dancers do, is nothing, and won't affect our game if it gets abolished...because, as I said we aren't the ones who are abusing the system.

Thats about the conclusion that I came (well I was pretty much there already)to aftertakling to some friends and to the perople who were teasing me in my guild. They all said how can it be bad whenyour affecting no one? The guildmates who were teasing me were doing just that, teasing me, because they rarely if ever cought me AFK. and though it would be a good oppertunity to pick on me, tho I did have to explain to them that that is a topic thats taboo with me and they apoligized for picking on me about it.
As I said in the Poll Esharra made about AFK I would not mind giving up any and all AFk if it stopped the abuse of the macro system

I was reading this post, and some of the responses, and I have to say it made me alittle sad. I know the afk issue is a touchy subject for everyone. It makes me sad though, that it causes us to be so nasty to each other. My mother always told me you catch more flies with sugar than vinegar. Now I'm not sure why you'd want to catch flies, but you know what I mean. Back when I started playing I was blissfully ignorant of the issue, but the more I learned, the more I changed my play style. Today, I don't go afk in the cantina for more than 5 or 10 minutes, usually much less. I do afk grind some by myself inmy basement. I decided not to afk in the cantina in a side room, because it upsets some people, and I care about my brother and sister entertainers and don't want to do anything that hurts them. That being said, I find the attitude "I'm better than you, I never afk, I don't use a macro" depressing. Show us by example, put away the paddle. The people that would feel the sting of the lecture, more than likely would learn from being around you, observing how you do things, and having you answer their questions. The people that won't learn from this, probably don't care what you think about them anyway, so your only hurting potential converts to your/our cause. I've been wanting to say this for awhile, but dreaded the thought of being roasted. I'm sure if people will be honest, and not just post what they think everyone wants to see there are at least one or 2 people out there that agree with me. *hugs* I love all of you, but sometimes I feel like a stepchild in here.
