Thread: More Star Warsy

The funny and odd thought for the day.

If the CU were to really make the game feel more Star Warsy

It would eliminate the brawler class and all elite classes that are built on it. AND, it would significantly enhance the role of dancers in the game.

While I remember many dancers in the movies can't say I can think of a single brawler type fighter except for Jedi and Jedi are their own class.

So, good-bye brawlers and hello enhanced roll for dancers!

LMAO, yea, that would be the day!!!

I'm inclined to agree with you. Melee'ers don't have much impact in a place like Star Wars...a world of blasters.

However, while there are alot of dancers in the movies, especially Return of the Jedi, at Jabba's palace, we can't discount the gaurds there too.

Alot of Jabba's gaurds and flunkies used melee weapons, especially the gammoreans. (The Pigs).

Lando was armed with a Long Vibro Axe disguised in his tantel armor as you might recall.

I think the only reason they werent noticed is because of the very quick demise of such weapons against Luke's lightsaber

The Tusken raider's used em too, as well as some of the Ewoks, the ones not using bows and arrows I guess.

Anyway....I dunno, Im bored and forum browsing, this felt like a fun one to post in.

After reading the first post, my first thought was... "What about Jabba's Palace and all his "goons" that during that execution scene in Return of the Jedi..."

My second thought was... Lando and Han fought hand to hand with a few of those "goons" on the small sail barge they were on.

I also view Han more as a Brawler/Pistoleer/Smuggler combination. I think Han is the type to jump into a good Fist Fight at the local cantina.. we just never really saw him doing much fighting like this because well, he did fall in with the Rebellion after all, at the height of Imperial power. He was obviously always being shot at by Storm Troopers, and in the real world as well as in the "movie world" ... unlike the Game World... the gun is more powerful then the fist. So Han shoots back when someone shoots at him, instead of charging in with fists flying.

another way to look at this is to ask the question: if you're in an up-close and personal fight wouldn't you wanna know how to fight off the baddies if you lost your blaster?

I appreciate that you all have posted how there were people that did brawling in the movies. Really I do! Like I truly did forget about ewoks! (which according to Lucas they were based on the Veit Cong!)

How many people in the movies carried swords, lances, or what the heck are vibro knucklers? Even those pig gurds it could be argued that there lance thingees shot bolts of energy from them but becuase they were never used you don't know.

In the movies hand to hand fighting was by accident and not the intent of some martial artist or Errol Flyn type with a sword. (Oops Errol Flyn type? Geeze can you find the old broad???)

Also remember that while we are in a 'world of guns', brawling combat is not obsolete. Like it was mentioned- in a close fight a blaster won't do much good. Why? Because if I get too close you have to pull that pretty gun very close to your body to hit me and it is very difficult to do- and by then I have you disarmed. As such to disarm you I had to use some sort of grapling joint manipulation.

Where there are dancers there are bouncers and bouncer HAVE to be capable of unarmed combat.

The club is the most basic form of weapon and it is rare for a bar brawl to not end up with one. (be it a chair leg or a bottle)

Many cities and planets in the universe have a ban on certain weapons being able to be carried by the populace. As such, in a dangerous world, it's a good idea to know how to use certain weapons that you might 'have on hand'.

Even in today's scociety, melee is not obsolete. Melee is the basic form of fighting.

So where do swords and polearms come in?

Well, many of the polearms have a religious significance. The Night Sisters and the Matukai both use polearms. They are not there to be pretty- they learn to fight with them.

Melee is more practical in some places. Especially out in the middle of nowhere like, say, tatooine. Not just anyone can own a blaster, let alone keep buying energy cells for them. So you use something more 'primitave' for protection. I doubt that the average tatooine moisture farmer had a bunch of blasters at his disposal to defend his home- odds are he knew melee as well. Otherwise he's toast.

And Luke didn't walk out into the desert with a blaster, he didn't have one. And if he did, why did he leave it behind?

It is impossible to argue that melee is not allowed in a starwars setting because it's a fictional universe and with so many cultures and so many 'religions' in those cultures and lifestyles, each area is different. Heck, in modern day Earth, we have running water, guns and stable houses. Yet the Mongolians are still nomadic, use bows, and ride horses. All of which they are VERY skilled at and do because it is their culture to do so.

So another argument is that these items still exist and are still used in a skilled manner because it is the nature of that people group to do so.

Oh, I agree with most of what you said!

Its just my poke at the system is that brawling is a profession. A primary means of fighting. Luke was always a Jedi or in process of realizing he was a Jedi. Any hand to hand fighting was by accidnet not a result of oh golly I am a fencer see my sword!

However, geeze, I just wanted to have fun and be silly with this column becuase the CU is stressing people out, and now we got all serious.

How about this instead, just where oh where did you find fishing in Star Wars???? (LOL a silly comment about scouts.)

Hey, even Leia, dressed in the second skimpiest outfit in the game, got down and dirty with a CHAIN!
