Thread: Not all macros are evil

I have several macros I use and I'm sure most of you masters have already been using these but I just thought I'd share with anyone who had not seen them used and may be interested.

I have macros set up that will initiate a smokebomb, change of outfit, and a change of dance all with one button. Like I said....I know I can't possibly be the only one using macros like this but I have never seen anyone else using one so I just thought I'd share some info.

/smokebomb;/pause 2;/ui action toolbarSlotXX;ui action toolbarSlotXY(etc);/changedance poplock2

Each of my favorite dances has it's own little macro set up with appropriate clothing....and it really grabs the attention of the audience.

I also use a macro with just flourishes that loops so I never have to interfere with my chatting...this macro has no /sit or long pause commands...just loops flourishes over and over. I don't always use this macro but when it's crowded and I have a lot of stuff going on it sure is nice to know I won't forget to flourish.

Hope there is someone who didn't already know about this and enjoys playing around with it.

You are most definately not. I've got macros for all sorts of things.. Costume changes (Yes with dance changes, sometimes I'll even do a costume, dance and skin color change all at once, because some costumes don't work with some skin colors). I have songs macrod, including music (I always do music in my song macros, even if I'm not playing, or not even dancing for that matter, I still have the macro take care of music) Speeches... All that stuff.

I don't think anyone claims all macros are evil...

Hey there...we still need to get together sometime and dance.

I was hoping by posting this I may also get to hear some new ideas to add to my performances....

I still consider myself dancer first and spend 95% of my online time in the cantina. My guild is opeing a club this friday night though so I may be dancing there exclusively after this weekend...guess we'll see how it goes.

p.s. no one ever said it but I think many newbies may get the impression any form of macro is frowned on just from some of the posts I have seen here....plus I was kinda joking about the evil thing

ok, i'm simple, i MUST be. I simply can not wrap my brain around the UI slot macros for changing costume/dance etc etc. could you be kind to me and explain it step by step please? It sounds like something too cool not to use.

thanks

you have to put the outfit you want to change into on one of the toolbarslots...and then use that slot in the ui command.../ui action toolbarSlot06 would mean the outfit is set for the F7 key...and the macro will equip it.

so if you have an outfit that includes a shirt, pants and shoes you need to make 3 commands to change the outfit like:

/smokebomb;/pause 2;/ui action toolbarSlot06;/ui action toolbarSlot07;/ui action toolbarSlot08;/changedance poplock2

that would equip all the items of clothing you had set in the F7, F8 and F9 keys and change the dance at the same time (if you don't have /smokebomb just leave that part out of the macro til you get it)

and just go through all your favorite dances and choose outfits for each and set them up....ppl love watching it

No, Celadori, you're not simple at all. The documentation for SWG is very shallow! What Sarita's talking about is actually writing a macro that calls other macros (or hotkeys). Example:

I have my shoes on hotkey Shift + F1, my dress on hotkey Shift+ F2, and my gloves on hotkey Shift+ F3. I also put my flesh wrap on hotkeyShift+F4.

Let's say I'm in my fleshwrap at the moment. I want to switch quickly into my dress. The hard way would be to press Shift+ F1, F2, and F3 manually. But that runs into lag problems and means you're pushing 3 keys when you only have to push 1. (I hate having to hold down Shift for the second key bank, anyway)

I could, however, write a macro that used the /ui toolbar command to press those 3 keys for me:

/ui action toolbarSlot12
/ui action toolbarSlot13
/ui action toolbarSlot14

(The slot numberis a number 00-23 that directly relates to the slot -- two banks of 12 slots, 24 total slots, starting at position 00).

Which does exactly the same thing as I did manually - assign it to, say,F1, and then all I have to do is hit F1 to put on all 3 pieces of clothing. To switch back to my fleshwrap, I have to remove the gloves and shoes if I don't want to wear them with the wrap, so I simply write another macro that calls my gloves, shoes, and the wrap (the wrap will automatically replace the dress, no need to unequip the dress).

There's a great piece on using /ui action over on swgcenter. It's worth printing out and keeping next to the computer:

there is not a single evil macro - of course you use macroes, we all do I cant imagine trying to chat in a full cantina without using one and i have some neat lightshows that play when a certain flourish is at a certain point and all sorts of cool stuff.

theres no problem at all with macroes! UNATTENDED GAMEPLAY is whats evil. It steals xp and tips from you who are working there with your great macro that sounds really neat while they are at school or work or sleeping.

Do you like to lose xp and tips to someone who is not even there?

You can absolutely hotkey something more than once...

However, if you are currently wearing it when you hit the macro, yes, you'll end up in the darling white panties.

You can but you don't have to. Use /ui action toolbarPanexx to switch to different toolbar panes. So you could have your armor on one bank of keys and your weapons on another, for example.

If you want to call the same key to unequip your slippers, just put that same /ui action toolbarSlot command in both macros.

Note, too, that "/ui action toolbarslot" will NOT work. You must have the capital "S" in toolbarSlot. I tried both and only the latter works.

Also, if you're going to stick a /smokebomb in there to mask your change, add a /pause 2 after the smokebombto give the smoke time to cover you before you actually change clothes

Cool stuff, huh?

Actually I usually use /pause 1 after the smokebomb.

Also something fun to do is use different type of smoke bombs.. For example I have a sort of genie costume made with bikini leggings. I use the smokebomb with the sparks flying. (What smoke bomb with the sparks flying I hear you ask.. Why, the first smoke bomb effect of course.. See, when you get the smokebomb command, it gives you the second effect first.. But if you do /smokebomb 1 you get blue smoke with sparklies, /smokebomb 2 for the puff, and /smokebomb 3 for the wrap of smoke - works with other dancer and musician effects too)

Also, with a 1 second pause you can replace smokebomb with /distract 2 to change in a bright flash.

*comes dashing back in 10 seconds later with another question*

ok, so i set up my outfits on the tool bars (which i will need to redo everytime i switch back pack, no biggie).

now, lets assume that on tool bar 1 i have my bunny suit -slippers, hot pants, light bustier, uniform gloves- set up in that order, and i want to switch to my poplock suit which i have set up -boots, hot pants, reinforced jacket, link steel gloves, trim lined shirt- Can i hot key the clothes more than once? so can i have the hot pants keyed on say slot 6 on EVERY tool bar? or will that end up with me wearing those DARLING white panties *shudder*
