Yes I know the dancer profession is not functioning as well as we would like, yet we still chose to play a dancer through the difficulties. I figure there has to be a reason and that it may be different for all of us. Please take the time to list the things we love about being a Dancer and let's remember the fun happy times we've had dancing!
I'll go first!
- All the players I met. Both entertainers and non. Its their conversation and imagination that keeps me coming back to the public cantinas to perform.
- At a party I can actually DANCE instead of just /dance. I can change my performance to go with the music and non-dancers are so envious they sometimes pick up novice entertainer to join in.
- I'm a good healer. I play a good support role and am happy my healing and buffing abilities are sought after. Not just all dancers but some insist Goldy buffs alone!
- My social ties as a dancer make it very easy and natural for my second "profession" of Player Event Hosting. I'm easy for other players to find and gain a lot of good crafter contacts for event sponsors.
- I have a reason to own all the clothing I do because I'm a dancer and need to swap clothes often
- I don't feel the urge to kill something just to have a successful game day.
Edit: because the forums are anti-goldy today.

Bottom line what I like about entertaining and dancing in particular?
- I like to help people feel good. Humor, compliments or just offering to DO something for someone else. The role allows me to do this easily.
- Lots of people tochat with. I get tochat about every kind of subject imaginable.. Plus from time to time I meet fellow role players and get to flaunt my creative side.
- Using the in game dancing and music comands with a combination of /emotes and dialog allow me to create original performance art.
- I love that sexual energy surrounding dance. It just helps with making both myself and others feel good.. I like that. (By sexual energy I don't mean cybersexor d00ds running up and asking for lap dances... No I am just referring to the look and movements the dancers make.)

My reason is very simple: Entertainers are the most fun people in this game (along with tailors). Best way to join in the fun is to be one

Well I won't talk about the attitude the lead me to create an entertainer *cough* *cough* ... *blush*
But after the first hour it became clear to me that I wanted a character to be a true master in all arts of grace. I wanted a character which chose every single move, every single word to pass her lips, every wink and blink to choose very concious, but of passion. While I achieved this only more or less with picking fencer (who don't actually fence but beat with clubs), dancer gave me exactly the... intensity I wanted. For Sharven this grace isn't a method or a handy tool, it's what makes her Sharven and what gives her balance in difficult (social) situations. It's not an art for anyone else... I mean it more like a private matter. A path to perfection without denying passion. It defines her.
Whenever I enter the cantina in my home town people know who I am and want me to enter the stage... I know a little about ahellufalot people. And I like it when people start to recognize me. (I still remember when I met a patron, who hadn't even talked to me, later in the wild and he asked me "Hey, arn't you the red dancer from the cantine" --- honeypiebeam
And I can turn a nightmare into an adventure for other characters, when they come to the cantina from a more or less failed hunt, right from the medical center. They tell me what happened, I heal there hurt mind and let bloodshet at the corvette become a story they are proud of. I like that.
Well... and I like being in the center at huge parties. Being the relay, together with my Phoenix Stars band mates, which attracts the people and keeps the party (or show) go on.
Well I could go on like this longer. *smile* Thanks for the thread.

1. I like that I can still play SWG even though I often can only play on a slow machine
(It makes hunting groups tough but I can find a nice cantina to go play in.)
2. I love playing dress up with the clothes!
3. I love that SWG is specced that you can be a dancer / something else so you can be a support character but still have combat/crafting skills
4. Playing with the dances/flourishes!
5. Getting well known by having my "home" cantina and have people who know my character come directly to her and start watching specifically
Also making lots of friends that way to having people to go hunting with
6. Getting lots of Apprentice experience hanging out in the cantina which is useful not only for Master Dancer, but other professions as well
In conclusion, as long as there be a dancer profession, I be dancin'

My favorite things are:
- The events and entertainer community surrounding them, CC series, starport jam series. Not to mention all the cross server people it has allowed me to meet thatI otherwise wouldn't have.
- Synchronised dance, Turning in an eye catching performance with synchronised effects flourishes and holoemotes.
- The positive feedback from the patrons that do apreciate our efforts.
- Helping people out with various game and profession tips, I't makes me feel kind of like the proverbial bartender with the answers to peoples many questions.

Its a great profession for roleplayers. Its great to see a master dancer acting all tough and Just coming off cute and innocent. Its a great social profession and allows the best oppurtunity for alittle innuendo. What i like the most is that i can entertain the player while i heal the character. This is the one area of the game you have to slow down and relax a bit and i maybe i can provide alittle something different and fun for that player between hunts.
I guess the most fun i have in game is making others happy.

(warning: short because I have a bad cold and am a little out of it
)
I like the excuse to shop forand horde clothes, all the nice people I meet, hanging out with other Ent Types and having a sort of "show people" bond, the dancing, and the parties.
I also like feeling like we are part of MMO History and still get very excited about this new kind of gaming experience. I know we aren't really there yet, but I still have a lot of hope that the Entertainer Professions will be truly groundbreaking one day. I'm looking forward to being a part of that with you guys!
/whisper ... and I think we have the best Profession forum ever!

Okay only the positive:
* chatting with other ent's via groupchat if they are atk.
* meeting nice people now and then and having a great time chatting and emote with them.
* when hitting master I might acctually get to do some synchronised florishes with another master. While dancing most times I am the highest dancer around and I guess it will be fun to go to my guilds new cantina without having to care about how much Xp I get. Doing my own thing so to speak.
* interacting with my new guild
* making clothings to show off while dancing.
* helping noobs of the trade (if they are can read what I tell them) and making them some clothes if they make up their mind what exactly they want other than the usual leotard or Fleshwrap. It can be fun if they listen/read... I am wandering off I know...
* trying to learn how to rp best
* Best of all: if you greet people coming in and reacting to it, come to you and have a nice chat with you.
* Buffing is still an adventure
I did only 3 of them for now...
* Learning new stuff about my or other professions.
* Listen to what ails other players. Sooth or help them if possible. If they thank you in the end you know you have made another friend in the game.
* Sing famous chorus lines and have people laugh about it. Thus getting to chat with the one laughing. /grin (/wave Rakamala I had a great time chatting with that very nice Wookie)
* being recognised again when a patron or I come to the cantina.
That's all for now.

This one is simple..
The entertainer community is absolutely my favorite things about the profession. Its by far the best group of people playing this game in my opinion. And I have to agree with Panthu, we definately have the best board community too. Everyone here made my job so much easier when I was Correspondent and its great to see that same wonderful attitude continued with Panthu.
Oh.. also its a great excuse to wear Hawtpants! Woot!
- oh.. and couples dancing is yummy.

Dancing gives me an outlet for my poetry. It would look a bit odd for a commando to recite stories of love, loss and hope. Might be interesting though.
Meeting players. Best darn way. Hands down.
A chance to give back a bit to those you adore. A free buff doesn't cost anything but a few mins.
Role playing a dancer is just fun.

I absolutely LOVE being a dancer, and even though I've taken up Pikeman recently, it ismostly so I can group up with my guildmates and friends, and PvP when needed. I refuse to drop dancer ever...simply because it's so much FUN. Here's why:
1. You get to meet so many great people, and when you're nice to people and help them out, they do the same for you.I enjoy getting cheap/free stuff from people I've met, but knowing that I help these people whenever they need me is the best reward I could ask for.
2. RPing. Some people think it's silly and frown upon it, but when I'm in the cantina, I'm just a dancer who has very little combat experience, and who doesn't know a great dealabout the galaxy. It's wonderful to hear stories of far away cities, people, planets, andcreatures I've never seen. Each person has their own view on the Corvette, the GCW, in addition to what's going on with them that particular day. I learn so much about the game in general from every person I talk to, and you don't get that from any other profession.
3. Helping the nooblets. I've seen too many AFK dancers begging for money and heals. To remedy this, when they're actually ATK, I chat with them and try to help them out.I met one girl who had been playing for three days, and I gave her a speederbike and 10k to go buy clothes and such with. The poor girl had only been out of the cantina a handful of times, and had never been out of the city. So when she was ready to go shopping, I took her to the mall, and to my house where I had a stash of old (cute) clothes and a few crates of accaragam (sp?) and gave her what I could spare. It was a wonderful feeling when she told me she could cry, that I had helped her so much. She is now a master dancer, and NEVER dances AFK, and has learned how to talk to people and strike up a good conversation..all because of me. I know she will pass on that kindness I showed her on to a new player, and will do as much for them as I did for her. The whole story just gives me a warm fuzzy feeling
4. Easy cash. Missions get dull, fast. As I said before, never a dull moment in the cantina. Pillow fights, tickle wars, people playing withour driods and pets (seeing a huge wookie kissing a bearded jax gently on the lips is hilarious), you name it. Try hitting an unsuspecting bypasser in the face with a pillow...now that is an interesting conversation starter! I've gotten tips upwards of 100k...just for being friendly and making someone's day a little bit brighter, no buffs involved! To really make a lot of cash, just put yourself in the customers' shoes. What would you want to see coming into a cantina? What would you expect the dancers and musicians to be doing? Lifeless macro buff bots? Not hardly. But you wouldn't expect to get hit with a pillow, or tickled mercilessly when you walk in either, and that's the kind of thing that most people enjoy seeing.
5. I, like Goldy, have an excuse for all the clothes I own. Also, I have an excuse for having just enough ID xp to change my hair/eye color, and makeup just to match my outfits.
The top thing I like about dancing is that you get to think outside the box. You have to entertain while you're dancing if you want a good tip. Also builds a good reputation, which is priceless in this game.
Thank you for starting this thread Goldy...instead of heading out to Dantooine tonight to grind Pikeman, I think I'll justhang outin the Coronet Cantina. It's a lot more fun there anyway
