Thread: One thing about this whole buffing thing that really confuses the heck outta me.

I am happy as heck about the new buff changes don't get me wrong.

BUT! and this is a big BUT!

Why oh why do we have to guess how it works? Frankly this game is not in beta anymore. Why should i waste my patrons time. And my time to GUESS how long i should dance, how often i should flourish etc and so forth.

Can't we get the dev in here to give us the darn documentation on the process of buffing people? I mean really the game code KNOWS how long the duration will be based on dance lvl and flourishes Passive vs Active. So i really have to ask.

Why is it our job to do a trial and error thing? It would be really nice to have some hard numbers here. I mean when i buy a weapon i know exactly what the damage and speed is on it. I don't have to guess.

But yet i cant even set a price schedule because i can't guarantee duration!

Ravenmist you think you could maybe get them to come over here and give us some documentation on it? I mean the dev in charge who made these changes has got to have the answer we are looking for. Why should we sit in here and wonder about what we HAVE to do to to buff. ITs like trying to figure out how to open a FS slot for goodness sakes.

Not only that the testing that other dancers are doing is so conflicting. Some say 5 minutes some say 8 minutes some say 10 minutes etc.

I know i can't say for sure and i been testing it alot!

Give us some documentation please!

AMEN!!! I second this request, all day yesterday i danced, targeting random people and telling them to watch me. Sometimes it worked, other times it didn't. Iwas doing everything that Raven put in the post explaining how to buff but for some reason it didn't work on a couple of people.

So yes, a complete explaination from the Devs who created this would be greatly appriciated.

I think it's kind of like a puzzle. I find it interesting to try to figure out how to do things. Sure it would be nice if everything were spelled out for us but would it be as much fun or as rewarding? Maybe. Hmmm.

Wouldnt it be cool if while we were targeting someone there is a little gauge that appeared by there name and as the buff was applied the bar on the gauge would fill up, and we would know when the the buff is ready.!

This is what I had in Mind..... a bar like when you get incapacitated but in reverse instead of going to 0 it would go to full when the buff was ready. Sounds simple enough to implement..What does everyone think of this Idea?

Sylune, I agree with you that we should have specific information, and I think it's a shame that players are going to have to conduct extensive testing to reverse engineer what the Devs already have written down in their notes.

However, in their defense, let me take a stab at their reasons:

1) If I say the buff lasts x minutes for x number of flourishes (just as an example), I can't be sure that's how it will actually work. Too many other variables come into play (length and level of flourishes, number of flourishes per minute, is anyone wearing a buggy skill enhancer, etc.) So the moment I publish numbers, I look foolish because someone is going to come up with data proving me wrong.

2) This excuse is actually official policy in another beta I play (which is a real beta I'm not paying for) -- things are added and changed in the game all the time and the players are not told. We are encouraged to explore and try things out for ourselves, "for the fun of it".

3) I think it was Verant's Brad McQuaid (~hissss~) who said that players will spreadsheet anything you do within a week, regardless of what you do. His approach was to keep changing things so the spreadsheets became obsolete. It was almost a head game the Devs played with the spreadsheeters/spoiler sites, trying to see who could stay ahead.

Personally, I think basic game mechanics should be published. Most of us are smart enough to know that other variables can change results. The information is important to us so that we can play our classes to their full potential. Quest locations and riddle solutions are another matter, but they're usually posted on spoiler sites quickly at any rate.

I guess what i am really asking for is not so much a blow by blow description.

But it would be nice to know if the amount we flourish and how often changed duration. Also, how the lvl of the dance effects it. There has to be some kind of hard percentage there. What the duration is based on time watched.

But like i said its like splitting hairs. One person says one thing, another says something else.

I for one want to do my job well! I don't want people angry with me cause they paid for a buff that didnt deliver as promised. I mean when a doctor buffs someone there are variables involved based on critical failure or success and the healing lvl of the doctor. But the MEDS themselves have a rating.

Maybe if we could get some kind of rating system on Flo's vs Dances vs Passive vs Active. That would be enough of a head start to do some solid testing. But as it stands now all we have is well here! Here is your new buff this is how you make it go. As far as how long it lasts and the lvl of the buff etc ...well your on your own. I feel out in the cold on this one.

And as i stated the biggest issue i have is not wanting people to be angry if i don't get it right. I mean what happens if said person is out hunting out on Endor and is expecting this buff to last two hours and is timing it. He or She fights something and in the middle of a hard battle the buff drops 30 minutes too soon. The person dies cause of mind destruction.

Now i am the one to blame for this persons death because i couldnt get the buff to stick properly.

Hehe, just thought I'd mention he hasn't even given me the exact numbers yet. All he gave me was a general guideline with a lot less information then I gave you all, hehe. I agree it would be nice to know more but I'm sure most of us will get the hang of it within a week or so and it won't be a big issue anymore.

AMENSISTER!

So totally not digging the guessitmates required by this new addition. I as well love the way the new buffs work and praise the devs for giving this to us, but they really should have given us documentation as well so we can:

  1. learn how to do it ourselves

  2. point to it when customers are confused

Dancer / musican buffs are way more complex than the doctor buffs. An explaination was needed.

And please don't misinterpret this. I really appreciate Ravenmist for all her hard work messing with this buff, writing up the guide and answering all our stupid questions. I just think Ravenmist should have been testing the buff based on documentation and then when it went live Ravenmist could share the documentation with us, making her job a little bit easier. Sorry Raven, you'd still get our stupid questions

I have to say i 100% agree with Syl on everything. I hate having someone tip me for a buff and have it not work or have it not last as long as i tell them.

One thing i have noticed, if someone is on a mind spice, the buff doesn't work. Now i don't know if its because of the spice or just the buff didn't work, but everytime it doesn't take, has been when the other person was using spice.

Not to be a pest, but is there any way to confirm or diprove this? It would help a great deal in choosing who to buff and who not to.

Thanks,
