Thread: Miss Corellia A dissapointing result
First of all I dont want to flame here anyone, nor was I a contestant or in any relationship with the contestants but friendship (with most of them). Still I really feel disappointed and I want to write about the reasons for my feelings:
I first want to talk about the surroundings:
- Some people were disturbing and without the help of any gamewizards or masters or whatever you like to call them it was nearly impossible to keep the crowd in behaving themselves. Ofcourse many of the visitors behaved well, but several intermezzos, like a naked running over the stage or another "novice entertainer" dancing right before the prize-giving, were really disturbing
- Also some PvP dominated rebels who disturbed the whole contest was not what I wanted to see.
About the contest itself:
- To make a review about the contest, only one section really mattered: Talent Contest. You ask yourself why? Well, the swimsuite contest couldnt be counted because a game were different races are present is hard to judge who is the "better looking" performer. Also the interview section was nearly equal. Everybody gave a good answer to the questions.
The Talent Contest:
That was the contest what really matter and what really made me feel disappointed. Especially the Master Dancer disappointed me, the reasons will follow.
Summerizing the talent contest you could see:
- Aperformer who told jokes. Ofcourse humor is important but this is a Miss Galaxy Precontest and this is not something thatsuites such contest (althoug I have to admit, the jokes were great, but how can we know that the performer created the jokes by herself?)
- A wonderfull play with sone niceparodies. In my opinion the best performance of the whole contest although the timeline is a bit mixed (the play takes place at episode V and we are between episode IV and V,also the information is yet unknown).
- Two "musicians" who were singing their ownscripted song.
-Dancerswho did what their profession told them dancing.
- And some strange "how not to get off with a girl" performance.
The most disappointing thing was that the master dancers were lacking creativity. Every dancer but one didnt change their dance nor did they change their costume. It all looked likepreperation time zero. They danced like I dance when Iput a macro into my dance to make chatting easier, and not to perform for MissCorellia. ( Relica was the only dancer who changed clothes while performing).
Finallythe winner:
2nd Runner: Wyld Orchyd - When I remember correctly, she only danced exotic4 with nothing special, maybesome disco lights but she didnt change the dance nor clothes...
1st Runner: Prowla Olah - Really a worse performence, one of the worst of all contestians (sorry that i have to say that, dont want to offend you but youreally didnt do anything special but to wave with your polearm and danced poplock?). and please, for the future, dont flex your muscles while doing a Miss Galaxy Contest. Or do you want to become Miss Fitness?
Miss Corellia: Aema - She was doing a "narative" dance what was a normal footlosewith a saber. She didnt even tell the story about htis narative dance. Actually i believe that she only won because of her not so common race for a performer.
For me it sounds like I want to become nabooian citizian.
What really should have happened:
Winner: Although she didnt get the timeline correct, she still had the most preperation time of any contestians - my vouch: the play (sorry that i forgot your name, too much happened there)
1st Runner: Tsuuli or the other musician who sang. Both needed to write a song, what is not that easy.
2nd Runner: Hard to tell.. Well, the one who doesnt get 1st runner.
-------------
Now I dont want to be only contra-productive,I gonna tell you what I wished to see (especially from the master dancers).
Performing a dance, where you use different flourishes from differen dances, coupled with effects to disguise the /changedance a bit. also change your costume while performing the effects. The best would have been to have summoned some musicians while dancing and do a little bit of singing too.
The play was great, and other people could have done similiar. You dont need to rely on the game engine. Somebody could have done some "Siegfried an Roy" show, or some tricks like cutting a maidens body and put it together again. There are so many possibilities you could have done. I hope the other contests will perform better than this one...
The bring an end to my posting:
I thought about posting anonymous, but when i did the writing i told myself that it would not be fair to hide behind anonymity. This is my opinion and maybe or surely others will not share my opinion, so I dont want to hide because i have an opinion...
My characters name is Areck D'rinet and as you might have already noticed, I play on eclipse and I am a Master Dancer. Entertainer and Musician by myself (a male one).
PS: Prowla, dont get mad on me. Yes I am harsh with you, but it's just because I was disappointed about your performance, because you could have done better with more afford (and I know it that you can).
It is disappointing to see the lack of creativity in performances when there is so much you can do within the confines of what is provided to you. I can understand doing that when you're in a public cantina and you want to spend more time talking to customers, but in a talent contest, come on.
Perhaps you should hold one for your server?
I was also at the contest and I actually thought it wasa wonderful event. All things considered there weren't as many idiots running around with pets on stage as there could have been and on the whole I felt the audience were respectful and appreciative of all the contestants.
Though I was surprised at Aema winning the contest, I thought she would get first runner up, I think she thoroughly deserved it as she did have some wonderful answers and those were worth more than the clothing contest rounds.
I have to agree with you when it comes to the master dancers in the talent contest though. I would have liked to see some more originality from all of them.
I liked the song from Tsulli but wasn't a fan of the colours which served only to distract rather than draw attention to, she had centrestage already so I felt those were unneccessary, but nicely done showing both her music and dance skills. I agree she deserved a place in the runner up category.
I thought all the women looked beautiful, N'varra had a stunning gown in the evening wear that I felt stood out.
Anyhow, being the first of a line of pageants building up to Miss Galaxy, I think they can only get better as everyone learns from them (including the organisers who did an amazing job!).
Congratulations to all involved!

I am a member of the sponsoring PA, Nabooty Entertainment. I was not in attendance, but would like to share some information with you. To give you some more background, I was a judge in the Miss SWG Pageant.
Disturbances are sadly, part of the process. Judges look past this and don't hold it against a contestant if it interferes with them. A fix is coming with player cities, so it is more easily hosted in an off-site location *PA hall/theatre* than prebuilt cities.
Talent was a relatively small portion of the contest. 30% to be exact. By far, not an overwhelming amount is focused on this. The Scoring was based upon Interview 40% (pre-show), Swimsuit 10%, Talent 30%, Evening Gown 10% and Composite Question 10%. I do understand the the 'live show' is predominately focused onthe talentpart as it takes the longest to accomplish and for most people is the most interesting, but doing well in talent does not a winner make. When you mention interview, I believe you are referring to the composite question which was only worth 10% and not the pre-show interview round worth 40%.
Humour is great for a contest like this. We welcome any displayable talent and this certainly qualifies. Judging for Miss SWG, I gave some 'comedians' some quite high marks as well as other judges. There is a somewhat built in limitation of the game, that if you aren't musician/dancer you have to get creative, with a play, jokes or something else. Who wrote the jokes is just a immaterial as checking with a dancer to see who wrote their macro.Possibly we just have a difference of opinion on this, but my judging experience proved to me you don't have to dance/playmusic to excel in talent.
I can't speak for the judges in this contest, but in MIss SWG, dancers who just danced and musicians who just played were docked points. In that contest, the judges were looking for a bit more creativity than just dancing because your tag says you are a master dancer.
I can guarantee the winnerdid not win because of her race.It was her overall score that won her the contest.. not just the 30% talent. Likely she wasn't the highest in talent score, but could have been. You don't have to win each section to be the overall winner. The organizers of the pageant are all veterans when it comes to hosting pageants. They've done it in other games under Vixen Entertainment. Some will always feel one person or another should have won, but they haven't seen the *whole* contest. Only part of the show (again 40% of the judging happens pre-show)
For more information on the pageant, I encourage you to visit http://www.missgalaxyswg.com
Then i reallyhave to apologize about the winners. if their precontest interview counts that much then they seem to deserve their ranking.
But I am still disappointed about the talent show and I hope that some of the future contestians were reading my posting to get an image of what people would like to see (and this opinion is not shared by the spectators only)
Performances and evening wear aside, I realize this is Nabooty's event and they can orchestrate it in whichever way they please, but if the questions asked Before the pageant count for 40% of the judging, shouldn't they be an actual PART of the pageant? I mean, me being the stereotypical male I sort of tuned out during the evening dress portion (i.e. watched a little TV, made a quick phone call) and while I'm sure you won't deviate from what you're already planned, perhaps in the future you can take out one of the two events where women just walk onstage and walk off, and replace it with the actual questions. I realize those that came early enough could probably have watched the interviews back stage, but for entertainment value and to consider length of show you might think of putting the Important questions inside the pageant so people aren't so shocked when the winners are announced.
I Actually have a question, I am not a Pageant Veteran, so maybe there is some unwritten rule that I don't know about, but do the answers to every composite question have to be so...eh.. I don't want to say the wrong word and offend any of the contestants.. But.. I don't know, the answers just seemed a bit too neutral I guess..Whenever anyone was asked of the conflict there answers would be basically "I just wish we could both sit Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader down at a picnic table and forget all our problems over a nice homemade apple pie. Tee hee hee."
Well thats a gross exaggeration, but thats sort of how I felt, and I'm wondering do all questions have to be answered like that? I mean, I'm sure questions can be answered without sounding so rehearsed and cheesy can't they? I could almost smell the petroleum jelly glistening off their teeth.
Anyhow, I was just curious thats all, I guess this is sort of supposed to imitate a Real pageant as accurately as posible so if thats what comes with it so be it. Let me just finish by re-iterating what a magnificent job Nabooty Entertainment has done of setting this up, and that all the contestants were great. Its a great player event to be having.
It is indeed meant to mimic real life pageants. One of the orchestrators of this event, Aktrez, is in real life a contestant in pageants. She recently participated this year in Miss New York, a preliminary of the Miss America pageant and received 2nd runner up (i'm going by vague memory here, so I apologize if i got the pageant or the finish spot wrong, but it was a major pageant and she did do very well.)
The main reason that I understand the 40% interview portion is not part of the actual pageant, is because it's boring. It would make the show exceedingly long listening to in some cases 17 contestants being asked in-depth questions. The other portions, like evening gown/swimwear, tend to have more appeal and are accomplished relatively quickly. A 2-3 hour event is about all most people can bear, so making it an actual part of the show wouldn't work. You however, do raise a good point, that people may want to see it. Maybe we can advertise it for the future shows. I'll have to check on that (miss SWG had no pre-show interview, so what you saw is what was scored on).
Composite Question Humor from Miss Congentiality "What isyour favorite date and why?" "April 23, because it's not too hot and not too cold.
Yes, the composites can be a bit on the cheese side at times I feel (None in Miss SWG). But it can also be nerveracking getting a question to answer in front of a hundred spectators.
In addition, no Nabooty member is a judge so neither Nabooty nor the organizers have a say in who gets scored what. The judges are all independent and selected from a list of judge applicants that was posted earlier on the Eclipse board. The only purpose of that screening was to make sure some clown isn't a judge. I'm not sure, but I believe the judging is monitored in this contest just like it was monitored in Miss SWG. The only purpose of that monitoring is to record each judges score and clarify any questions the judges may have. They give no advice on one contestant or another so no judges are influenced.
I think hearing the interview questions would be entertaining.
One thing that did concern me was not the answers to the composite questions but the questions themselves. The were such questions that could only be answered in a cheesy way in most cases, and I would like to see questions that show more insight into the contestants. I think one of the best questions of the evening was directed at Aema who gave a great answer. I was impressed with the couple of contestants that sounded real and thoughtful in their answers =)
I truly enjoined watching the show, everyone was wonderful and beautiful!
Just a note regarding the griefing idiots during these contests.
Karama is a wonderful thing! Anyone who was at the MissSWGpagent will remember Lcthebeasty, who set is graul and probot to patrol the stage while people were trying to present themselves.
Well, he turned up in a private cantina recently where I was performing. He paid his 500 credits to get in. I spotted him. Stopped the band. Told him he was an idiot and repeated what I'd said on the night to him. Then had him ejected from the cantina. Not only did he not have any healing (which I warned him about on the night) he was also 500 credits out of pocket for his troubles.
