Thread: Stupid Question on Special Effects

Here it is Friday, so even though I have been here like forever, I have my dummy noob question.

Other than animations and sucking up HAM do special effects do anything?

If they don't do anything then why oh why would we want droids to do them? Wouldn't we want droids to enhance what we are doing in some fashion? For them to do a worthless act for us, well, I won't pay money to get a droid to do something I gave up doing a long long time ago.

So, like do special effects doing anything other than giving you a key to pushto make the toon fart? (Smoke bomb effect, that really makes me laugh!"Oop's sorry, must have been bad Bantha Chowder at lunch.")

Thanks for the info ahead of time!

Current opinion is that the lighting effects do nothing. I like em. I think the flourishes are flat without the inclusion of some well timed lighting effects. I'm told I heal battle fatigue faster when I light it up but I've not done any kind of conclusive testing on it. I'd bet someone else has and would be more than willing to share thier results or at least dispute my contention that they do in fact speed up battle fatigue healing. Againthisis based on very little evidence but I'll go ahead and make the statement anyway.

No. Smoke bomb will allows meto change. Other than that.../shrug.

Exactly. Maybe to get us to give some of our piles of credits to poor droid engineers?

You bet. Like enhancing buffing? Being able to heal BF outside of cantina? Just a thought.

Huzzah!

My opinion: It is much easier to code effects and match with an existing code (droids) than it is to actually code our toons to have new flourishes or fixing the base dances that are all jumpy. So when we do get this new wonderful addition to our profession, they can say "See we have spent time on your profession, now go back to your cantinas so we can spend more time making TKAs and rifelmen more uber."

I think my against is growing. Does it make me look fat?

Ya Olaca hit on it. The programming team has a lot on their desk, and the art team has nothing better to do. It would be great IF these special effects actually had some sort of gameplay purpose. My suggestion was to add to the buffs. The problem with our buffs is that they can be "good" for one person and "poor" for another, because we take a percentage of their stats. So somebody with poor stats gets a poor buff. Flourishing could effect the speed of the buff, while effects could add a bonus on top of that, depending on the number of flourishes you give (which already have a timer), and this bonus would--of course--be capped. But it doesn't.

If the art team isn't so busy, how come they can't fix the star's in front of moons? That fairly insignificant bug pretty much shows the entire philosophy behind the design process with SWG. In another game, we got stars, we got a moon, we can't make it look right. We either make it look right or we remove the moons or stars, either one. Here... it's: we can't make it look right, um, ok, leave it in, maybe one day we'll get to it. It makes the entire experience very frustrating, when it comes to important issues. Make it right, or leave it out. I think because this game takes its roots from MUDs rather than traditional games, we see this.

Anyway, my point is maybe there'll be a reason to buy the droids, one day. By that time, of course, World of Warcraft will be out, which doesn't take its roots from MUDs but actual PC games (and polished ones, at that).

FX are just that FX. I use them timed in conjunction with the dances to give a polished look . Well timed they can give a dance a well needed kick (sorrry for the pun). Other than the visual the only reason to use them is to draw attention to yourself in a crowded cantina.

As far as I can tell they have no effect other than to add "flavor" to your dancing. I use the smoke effect to cover me changing clothes and the lights do look pretty.

*hugs*
