Thread: How about this solution for AFKers?

I don't know how easily this would be acheived. Those of you who have been at this at lot longer would be able to tell me if this is viable or not. What if we could get some (preferably more) or those who are jsut grinding or who are going AFK for any length of time (say 1/2 hr or longer?) to stay in one of the side rooms in the cantina? The ATK dancers would have the front, the patrons would know who is there and who isn't if they want to chat with us, and those grinders or others (those AFK and not just grinding for jedi for ex.) would still get there xp that they need ( hopefully their in a group to this quickly). Theoretically, everyone is happy. Even if we could just thin out the crowd,it might help.

Like I said, I don't know how many people would cooperate with this (interference with AFKers getting tips) but until they change the jedi system, could it be an alternative?

or am I just being an idiot?

There will never be a working solution to entertainer afking until the skill becomes interactive in some way.

A couple of ideas would be;

  • xp

AFK macroing will continue to exist until the process (whatever it may be) ceases to be mind-numbingly boring and repeatitive.

The idea that HALF the Dancer/Musician's required XP is mandated as Healing XP is ludicrous.

The idea of Entertainment professionsrelying SOLELY upon other people for this XP is moronic. (Even Doctor's can buff their own pets for Medical XP)

The fact that this Healing XPcomes excruciatingly slow is just infuriating.

I like anybody's input. The more we have the better we come up with solutions and ideas. If if mine are kind of stupid!

I think you're right though. The AFKing won't stop unitl they change the jedi system. That's a shame because I really like this prof and hate to see so many unhappy.

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out Mr. Happy

As for your idea Rhysati, I think it's a great one. Unfortunately that required some kind of respect from the people that are grinding Dancer and Musician. I'm not saying it doesn't exist! I've met a few people that would do this. However, in my experience the majority of people holotaining just want to get trhough it as quickly as possible and don't care about the effect they have on our profession.

But, if ever I'm in Coronet or Theed leading a group, I'll ask them from now on

way back in the begining when 19 out of 20 entertainers were actually atk it wasnt mind numbingly boring there were peole to talk to it was fun. and way bacj before the holo grind realy runed everything ent heal xo really wansy all that hard to get i had all my ent healer xp long before i had my dancer xp i still had an entire branxch of dance xp when my ent heal xp blocks were full because way back then we didnt have 40 afk people fighting over the xp or every guildo r city having there very own buff/healbott set up ready to log on at a moments notice it was just real entertainers who actually enjoyed the profession. lets face it holocrons ruined what little fun and dignity theent profession had i hope it returns to what it was before them when they change the jedi system.

When I was a dancer, I went to remote locations all the time and danced afk just so you guys would be able to get healed in deserted locals. I find it troubling when I see posts like this. I did it to help other players out, and I'm sure others like me do the same all the time. There is nothing wrong with AFK dancers.

Aika, I'm sure you were very altruistic in your intentions. I'm sure many are. But that doesn't mean there aren't people who are rude and ruin it for other players.

There really isn't a way to distinguish someone's intentions when they do that. And even your own altruistic actions could be causing grief to some other entertainer who decided to try an out of the way place, bought a ticket, got there, then found that they just wasted their money because you were there AFK. If it were another entertainer that wasn't AFK, at least they'd have something more to do.

And there are alternatives to having a heal bot parked it out of the way locations. At least there is supposed to be, and I'm pushing to get it working properly. The registration system allows entertainers to say that they are healing, and allows people that need it to know where they should go. Nobody uses that system right now because if there isn't someone healing where they are, they will just go to Coronet or Theed.

I like everyones input too. I think something should be done, we need it to be a more interactive profession. AFK people are beginning to annoy everyone, not just those who are in the profession. If enough of us voice this to SOE, im sure that they might do something about it. We cant quit on it, sure it may seem like they wont do anything, but we cant be sure, unless we go to them. Las of all, i was wondering how i might earn all of your respect, a dancer without the respect of other dancers is not a dancer at all. I have a list so far, and that is

1) Do not go afk

2) Do not harass the women (which i know ill never do)

What mre can i do? And be sure SOE will be getting letters from me on AFK people

I was an AFKer. I'm highly unapologetic about it. Being a dancer is useful and can be fun, but the grind is tedious and the experience needed to gain skills is rather high. Until SOE bans the use of AFK macroing (and in order to do that, they'll need to ENFORCE it, and that is not something they'll be able to do for a LONG time), AFKers will be in the game. Bottom line: as much as you might like to,you can't tell other playerswhere to stand, where to dance, etc. While certain things irritate all of us (such as the macro spammers... ugh), this is something that's going to have to be left up to the developers. And they need to focus on the CAUSE of the AFKing, rather than the AFKing itself.

I think "playing music" would be more common, but "musicianing" sounds like way more fun! New verb!
