See what I am suggesting is that we change the overall dynamic from the idea of performing for a faceless crowd into a more personal one on one approach. You'd still concentrate on permorming in what I have suggested you'd just direct that performance to a player and SEE a result for your work. The performance you gave, depending on your character skill and the actions used (effects + flourish), would have a direct effect on the mind wounds and battle fatigue healed for that player.

Please remember I am almost a pure #2 Performance geared entertainer so take this with a salt cellar.
When I saw the title of this post I was looking for all sorts of suggestions to tweak and revive the profession and not just the healing aspect of it.
The quote above struck me as wrong from a performers standpoint only.
Healing and buffing issues never bothered me because although I might do it rarely for friends its just not why I' chose dancer. It DOES concern me when entertainers I respect or need to shanghai into Performance are upset enough by it that it affects their practice and dance and makes them unhappy.
Same with afk buffbots. I ignored them because I was out of the main city cantinas and in my own before the end of July last year. But again when my friends and fellow entertainers start to get upset by such things I take notice and try to help.
I care that entertaines are happy, organized and willing to perform. If they aren't, its a problem. Since by far Performance is probably the least used of the dance styles they have to draw dancers whose primary activities are not performance. Anyone that heals, buffs and socializes/therapists/flirts/chats is the potential chorus person or choreographer for a show.
A performance is underutilized regarding entertainment on many servers especially creative, complex numbered sets or roleplayed events.
I say why not make Performance more appealing by giving them more tools? Yes we have bandflourishes...that's it. Everything else are manual tricks, manual timing, manual moves, manual corrections, manual starts, stops and changes. Why not give some tools to help entertainers perfrom more?
Tweaks that could revive the profession for me are these:
- Add in a /startbanddance [name of dance] command
- Add in a /stopbanddance command
- Add in a /changebanddance [name of dance] command
- Add in groupeffects /banddance dazzle 1
- Add in a way to subgroup units in a band/dance so you can have a band or choreographer controlling individual sections or allow the selections autonomy for effects. /dancebandflourish S1
/changebanddance S2 basic2 This would be even better for musicians to have sections for soloing, duels and sounds - Add in ability to specify flourish in changedances /changedance basic2 flo 3 So you are not stuck chaining similar numbered flourishes
- Add in /synchronizedance to deal with lag and force dance timing together
- Add in mirror flourishes /mbandflo 4 so two people could do the same flourish but in opposite directions to simulate couple dancing and allow for variety in flourishes

I'm drooling at work, which isn't good... LOLThose would be most welcome additions. Since class the other night I've been thinking about various things quite a bit, and even working on some ideas. These commands would make things so much easier in a group performance. As it is the best work around for performing some of these things that I've been able to come up with is to have the choreographer use macros that count down "3... 2... 1" on the groupchat (or better yet, you can get an SL to do it... lol) before executing a startdance or a changedance, but I don't even that would give the precise timing that having proper band control commands would.
