Thread: What can wonk up a customer receiving a buff?

Now I've never had a buff not take for the full 2hrs but I know there are some things that are known

to cause a problem with receiving a full buff. Can people please post these things here? Id like to get

comprehensive list so that i can better inform myself and my customers and to make things clearer to

those who are uninformed about how buffing works and like to blame the 'incompetent' entertainers

who 'messed' up their buff.

(sorry i'm a little fired up about my galaxy board constantly crapping on the entertainer community)

Players can wonk their own buffs by:

attempting to trade or teach skills while getting the buff

entering combat while getting the buff (yes I've had some do this!)

giving Health or Action buffs to others while trying to get a mind buff

running out the door while getting a buff (where the heck are ya going?)

attempting to get a music and dance buff at the same time

sometimes TK meditation can wonk the buff (how hard is it to just sit or stand for 3 minutes anyway?)

dancing while trying to get a music buff (I learned this the hard way while getting my first musician buff. I started enjoying the music and boke into a little dance - only got a 55 minute buff

I've also had over eagerentertainers do a setperformance on people I was buffing in group. They got a weak music buff instead of the dance buff.

Good luck

ive noticed 8 out of 10 times......they are simple not watching/listening to you.....

many a time i say "please start watching now".....and than ask...are you watching so and so...i get a yes reply.....4 mins later....i tell the mto stop watching, and i get.....oops forgot to start watching.... <boggle>

the other times....watching and listening ar the same time ( either trying to ge healed and buffed or trying to get 2 buffs at same time)....NOTE if you are getting buffed...you are also getting healed

player getting ganked at my feet....this has happed 3 times now....poor RThree is so shaking up hes constatly spining around looking to see if some one is about to start shooting

  1. ask them to only watch you. Do not watch or listen to any other entertainers.

  2. tell them not to stopwatch until you are done. I had a dummy that stopped watching during a buff because his BF was healed and he thought I had to do them separately resulting in a 45 min buff instead of the full thing.

  3. ask them not to meditate

  4. tell them to stay near you

  5. do not trade or train during buffing

probably best to just tell them to stand stock still for 3 min while you buff them lol

For this reason alone, we desperately need some kind of buff interface. It's out and out stupid that we have to act like lamer n00bs and ask people "are you watching? are you listening? did you /stopwatch? did you /stoplisten? blah blah blah." Musicians get the added "benefit" of looking like they have no idea what they're doing, by continually having to ask "did you get the buff?" because we have no idea if the buff worked or not - we can't see mind secondaries. I've had many a music buff stolen from me this way, typically they listen, stop listening, and say they got nothing and run off to "catch a shuttle." It's bull.

The worst thing is, as someone already said, it's always our fault when something goes wrong. And then we get in /tell hell because someone forgets to watch or listen, and others start whining about waiting longer. You'd think our buffs took 3 hours, I mean really. SWG is most certainly NOT a game for the impatient player

Let's see - Mind is the key stat pool to hit during PvP. That is, until the Combat Revamp gets put in, which we know has been pushed back and will not come out anytime soon. Jump to Lightspeed will keep their hands very full upon implementation and will continue to take up more of their time for quite awhile. They're fooling only themselves if the Dev team thinks otherwise.

Now, since Combat Medic diseases and poisons were such a problem in PvP, and it became the war of the Mind disease/poison, the Devs somehow miraculously whipped up disease and poison resist buffs to help Doctors and "fixed" Combat Medics' diseases and poisons and how they function. Yet, the very MECHANISM provided to "enhance" player's minds is in a horrible state of disrepair. And why? Because the code is "very buggy and unstable." So what, they're gonna break it more if they try to fix it? Isn't that what testing is for? Isn't that why you fix code, to break it for a bit, but to improve it overall once it's worked out?

It's time the Dev team sucked it up, rolled up their sleeves, dived into the Entertainer buffing code, and got this horrible tangled mess of an excuse for a buff system straightened out. Mind is far too important in the game as it currently stands to have the providers of Mind buffs totally hassled by neverending bugs while trying to buff people. Mind's key role in PvP will not end until the Combat Revamp (if then) and that's not happening for a long time. This Entertainer buff junk really needs to get worked out, in fact it should have been worked out a long time ago. We get enough grief from just existing as Entertainers and hassled by players who treat us like slaves, the very last thing we need in our lives is to try to help these rude, inconsiderate players and have everything fail horribly with no clue as to why.

About all we've gotten from any recent work by a Dev has been the mysterious destruction of getting dance/music buffs at the same time. And that's still gotten nowhere in regards to a fix - there ARE Devs in this game, right?

Enough, already. Fix the stupid code. We really don't need the extra hassle of all this junk. Look at all these things that screw up buffs! Come on, what a horrible state of affairs.

Bah, sorry. I had 3 setperforms not work yesterday, in a ROW, for no apparent reason. So this just recently reared it's ugly head and mademe extremely frustrated.

I wouldn't mind the wonked buffs (had one poor customer fail three times before we got it working) if only we could get a simple "You successfully apply a mind buff to %TT" (I don't even need to know their name). I get a message when doctors enhance or heal me. Why can't I get a message when I do the same for others? Okay our buff code is a nightmare and they don't want to work on it now. I'm fairlypatient.. I can wait (the combat players may not be able to, but I can). But it would be nice if they could throw us a bone in the meantime.

For my own sanity, I've started trying to put a little humor into the ganked buffs. If they are rebel, I indicate the Empire is interferring. If they are Imperial, well then Empire doesn't appreciate theirconversing withTwi'leks or other inferiors and thus have ganked the buff. If they are neutral (not always easy to tell). Then the empire finds their lack of committment disturbing and prevents the buff... (it's almost always the Empire's fault). For most players this helps heal the tensions and we move on.

Wow, thanks so much Ikewe , you just answered a couple of my questions. It seems that you and I are the main people bidding on Dance Mind Enhancement attachments on Shadowfire...sorry for the competition, especially since you're such a dedicated dancer. One more +3 attachment and I'll be out of your hair. Also, I won't use any of the tapes until I can make a full +25 suit. I'm assuming that I will have sometapes left and I'll see if you want them first before auctioning them...maybe we can help eachother

No worries about the competition Vasquez and thanks much for the offer. I'll also keep an eye out and if I hear of a +3 will let you know. A full +25 outfit! Rock on! When you get it all together let me know as I'm sure I can send some business your way.

Ihave aquestion about the buffs...I just got Master Dancer last night, and I'm doing buffs for 4 minutes, and the longest mine have taken for is one hour. The person I was buffing was sitting next to me IRL, so Imade surethey didn't do anything wrong. Is it just because everything is buggy, or am I doing something wrong? I do the /setperform then time it, and I never click off of the person I'm buffing....anyone have any advice?

The duration of the buff is determined by the number of flourishes you do during those 4 minutes. Tiaga has written an excellent "ultimate buff macro" and it's posted on the Entertainer's Forum.

basically it's 5 flourished followed by a pause of 8 and then repeated.
