Is there anybody out there who will seriously consider using this thing? With all the restrictions it would be easier to just make a new character. I can't imagine the insane reasoning behind not letting you take your stuff. It's like moving to a new apartment across town and not being allowed to move your things and then being forced under penalty of law to go buy new things at your own expense. The price is at least twice what it should be and service offers less than half of what it should. Talk about getting DP'ed!

Transferring a character costs $30 to move server, and the only thing you keep is skills... well... that's 2 months time for the account. If you can't gain the skills in a week, then you really are not working too hard. Why in the world would you not just create a new character on the other server and spend a bit of time getting those skills up.
They don't even promise to keep your character name... So if you start a character on the other server, you can at least check for a name you do like and be very close to what you'd get with the transfer. I'd say it is a case of SOE wanting some extra revenue with no effort on their part. BAH!

Skills only is totally right. Anything else could completely screw up another server.
Just as an example for a long time Chimaera didn't have stun armour. You on your server do and it's top notch. You transfer to Chimaera and in combination with some food and buffpacks you also brought with you that happen to outdo the ones on chimaera. Suddently your a PvP ace and basically unkillable.

I seriously can't see paying $30 for this type of service. Can't move your house or furniture or the simple non-BE non-uber clothes that you have. I just can't see this service being valuable at all.

Interesting perspective Menyou. I have been playing on and off since the beginning but assumed that all the servers where basically identical as far as what a character could achieve. I guess my beef is that when I do get a chance to play its only maybe 5-10 hours a week and I never seem to get anywhere as far as character advancement. To me having 10k credits in the bank is doing really well. I'm a role-player at heart so I get my enjoyment of the game mostly from that. I do however sometimes resent paying the full price of a subscription and never getting the full range of features the game has to offer because I can't spent 5+ hours a day playing. I know what I'm saying is nothing new. I have seen it said a thousand times on these boards but it doesn’t make it any less true. At least for me. In conclusion when facing the prospect of having what I have managed to acquire striped away just because I might want play with some friends I have made on a different server feels like stealing.

RandDarkstar, "If you can't gain the skills in a week, then you really are not working too hard."
I guess it’s just a matter of perspective. To me 2 weeks of play time is maybe 10 hours. Also I derive no enjoyment grinding away at the skill tree. I will never be this type of player. I'm a social role-player hence my characters are always dancer/medics. I've hardly even held a weapon in the game let alone used one. To me the skill tree is just a dull bother. The necessary evil if you will.

Well, if CH's can't transfer what's in their datapad, it ain't gonna happen. A rare pet is hard to find.

In comparison:
https://store.station.sony.com/eq_char_moves/
https://store.station.sony.com/eq_char_item_moves/
The people who are going to take advantage of this service are those that have friends on a different server and want to be there with them. In most cases, they won't care about not taking their items, as it will most likely be replaced on arrival at their *new home*. For them, the ability to be with their friends and essentially ready to go on arrival will outweigh any other consideration. The point to playing a game is having fun, and if a person feels that spending an extra $30 and a few million credits when transferred will give them that, then that is their choice.
Something the detractors should keep in mind: SOE is under no obligation to make this service available, and if a person doesn't feel the cost outweighs the benefits, then they are under no obligation to take SOE up on their offer.
Why waste energy in such a useless endeavor as complaining about something that has no direct or indirect effect on one's self?
