Thread: I may be having a problem
As for completing the quest, you need to dance inside the hotel, not out front (the wp is very very misleading).
C
Allow me to ask the most obvious question in the world...
Are you flourishing?
As far as the quest is concerned, I think you have to be actually inside the hotel for it to trigger, not outside. But you can easily verify that yourself: call up the quest in your quest log while you're dancing. If you get a running countdown (something like: "time left: 8min 52 secs"), then you're in the right place.

Well there is no green whats so ever in Dance or music. I did not know about flourish. I will try that....what is the 1-8 do you have to be a certain skill level to flourish 8 or can one just starting out do it.
All dances, from Basic and Rhythmic on up, have 8 flourishes (or flo's, for short...It's the shortcut command line command.../flo 1, /flo 2, etc.) If you open the command browser (CTRL-A), and click on the Other tab, scroll down a bit and you'll see the hotkeys for them.

The number on a flourish indicates only a different variation of a flourish and has nothing to do with level or skill. Only the dances themselves will vary with skill level. All Dance (and Music) XP is generated by using flourishes in a particular dance (or song). Simply type /flourish 1 while performing and you will notice that you do a different dance move (or musical flourish). Then you will notice that you'll start seeing Dance (or Music) XP being granted. It will start at some value, and then you'll notice that you continue to get XP for a while, but the number will start going down over time until you don't get anymore. Eaach time you see a new XP number appear, we call that a 'tick' (because it's generated every ten seconds or so like the tick of a clock). It probably won't count through every single number, but that's just the way it's always worked. To generate another XP burst, simply do another flourish. You also don't need to wait for the XP to go all the way down to 0 again, you can do a flourish at any time to generate the maximum value again, but you do have to wait about 10 seconds after performing the flourish before you will get any XP at all, so there's a limit of how close together you can do them if you want to get XP.
There's certainly no need to keep typing /flourish # every time you want to do a flourish. Many commands can be shortened, and in this case, typing /flo # is enough. But there's even an easier way than that. At the top of your screen you should have a hotkey bar. If you bring up your Commands Browser window (not sure what your hotkey for that is, but for me it's ';', it's also on your minibutton menu near the right side - it looks kinda like something spraying upward), go to the last tab on the right which I think is 'Other' or 'Special' maybe, if you scroll down you'll find hotkeys for each of your flourishes. You can drag those up into your hotkey tool bar and then simply click on those to perform a flourish.
After you get used to that, another fun one if you're in a group is called /bandflourish #. It works like /flourish #, but if you're in a group it will make all the dancers do the same flourish at the same time. If you're all doing the same dance it will look pretty cool, but if you're doing different dances, each dancer will do a flourish in their own dance and the result may or may not look good. Keep in mind, though, that for XP, only the person who issues the /bandflo command will get an XP boost from it. The other dancers who are 'following along' won't get an XP boost. Also it's often a good idea to ask other group members if they mind before doing a /bandflo and especially if you wish to do several of them. Other dancers may not want their dance interrupted by your /bandflo. It also also possible to disable yourself from following along with other /bandflo's by typing /bandflo off. It can then be reenabled later with /bandflo on.
Also a /bandflo will work only when the other dancers are not doing a flourish of their own at the same time. If another dancer is in the middle of performing a flourish when a /bandflo is issued, that dancer will simply be skipped by the effect (though the action cost of the /bandflo will be paid) and continue doing their own flourish as normal. The same is also true the other way around. If a dancer is in the middle of performing a /bandflo, and issues a /flo command, the dancer's individual flourish is not displayed, although it will 'count' as having been performed. It will use action, and it will generate an XP boost for that dancer. This is one way that a group of leveling dancers can perform /bandflo's to be in synch with one another, but the other dancers that are following the /bandflo can hit a /flo of their own after the /bandflo has started, and they can still generate XP from their own flourish.
After you get a good idea of how putting together flourishes works with your dancing, you may want to look into creating some simple dance macros that will automatically execute flourishes for you to generate XP so that you can talk to other entertainers or cantina patrons more easily without having to remember to hit a flourish key all the time. Just keep in mind that while many dancers use macros to simplify and enhance their play, it is possible to create macros than many of us consider 'bad' because they can continue indefinitely without you even needing to be at the keyboard to play your character, but still allowing you to earn XP the entire time. This is a topic for another time. We would certainly be happy to help you create some simple dance macros if you like, but asking for advice on the long term macros is considered impolite.
All in all though, I would say welcome to dancing! I hope you enjoy it.

yeah....I figured it out...thanks for the help kind people.
The only thing i dont like is that I dance like a geek at a freshman prom. You know the one the lonely guy in the corner with no women around him
Heh..yeah..we know that person well. In fact..I'm that person on several different servers. But it is great motivation to keep flourishing! ![]()
Keep watching the little geek dance tho..as your skill improves and you learn more dances, you'll start to see how the flourishes can be used to chain the different dances together..watch the position of the feet & hands. While the end of Basic flourish 6 is really goofy looking, you can /changedance from Poplock flourish 6 to Basic and then to Popular (before you get to that goofy part) and it all looks like it was meant to be together.
And welcome to the party!
