Thread: Flourish should work like Sampling

After reading the many threads concerning Macros being akin to cheating, I came to the realization that many people had NO CLUE how many flourishes one has to perform in order to level up. Many comparisons are made between macro sampling and macro flourishing. Then it suddenly came to me: They're completely different! And here's why: When an Artisan types /sample, he or she will start sampling and continue to collect samples until they become too tired, at which point they cease samping (or they cease manually).

THIS SHOULD BE HOW /flourish WORKS! When you are dancing, and you type /flourish, you should continue to flourish, automatically with a similar pause to sampling, until you become to tired to continue (or you manually stop). This would cut down on the novel-sized macros, and it would help the profession immensely, putting it on a par with everything else.

But wouldn't that just pave the way for more afk dancers?

Plus, each dance has about 4 unique flourishes and 4 generic. If you just typed in /flourish, then it would probably just go through all of them, leaving the dances looking strange and wouldn't let them flow. I enjoy choosing which flourishes I want to perform.

Although... I am anti-macro. I've never written a macro and I don't think I ever will. It just seems so impersonal. So does a generic flourish command. Entertainers are supposed to be social. I dance and entertain because I enjoy it, not just to level up. A generic flourish command would just seem to make some entertainers lazier and afk more often and encourage those who grind to just make a novel size macro of /flourish and /pause.

I mean, it's an interesting idea, but I'm just not sure how it can benefit dancers.

I would hate that so much! I DO use aliases files but from the sounds of it not the same way others fo. I put together songs for K'vera to sing and dance to. Together with groupchat cues asking the band to play a particular flourish for particular line in the song etc. I use it to build my performance repertoire and it frees me to interact with the audience during the performance. I NEED to be able to choose to flourish when I want the way I want, to change the dance, etc. The system is fine... just need some imagination

And more varied flourishes of course... 5-8 for each dance style would be a start.. and

I won't lie, I use a macro to dance. However, I only do it so I don't have to keep pushing the commands and so I don't have to remember a routine. But if I'm dancing I'm at the keyboard.

Thanks for the comments. Perhaps the solution, then, is to simply add an /autoflourish command, that will continuously cycle through the flourishes until stopped or tired. I'm not trying to propose something radical; I'm just asking that this profession be granted the perks already enjoyed by other professions. Why should surveyors be allowed to type /sample but once, and then free to do other things, while we entertainers have to type /flourish continually? This is not a level playing field, and it makes little sense.

In the meantime, we are taking the heat for AFK macroing, when it's the surveyors who are giving macroing a bad name with their multi-cycle macros.

I'm going to have to disagree with this one as well. I fear that it will cause entertainers to go AFK and not promote good band unity.
