Hi. I've noticed that on this board you have earned the respect of your colleagues. I admire that you're working hard to make yourself into a professional.

What I haven't seen, is something telling me which galaxy you live in. I would like to create a toon just so I can come and see you work. I'm sure I could learn a lot from coming and seeing you live.

Sincerely,

A Fan

Look at my signiture honey. Laugh! I live in Keren on the Eclipse server. Unfortunately since thie last patch but one (5-6 days ago) I have been unable to stay connected for more than 5-10 minutes at a time before my client simply crashes and dumps me back to the desktop. I've been perusing all the support forums in hopes of finding a solution I can implement myself. it appears that they changed SOMETHING in the client during that patch that is having that effect on my system as well as those of many other people.

As a result at the moment all I can really do is try again several times a day in hopes that a new patch will appear that solves the problem.

If we DO get things stable again, drop in and see me in the Keren Cantina. I'm usually on in the afternoons and most of the evening CST. At least I WILL be once they fix the fix that is causing the problem. Laugh!

And even if you WERE a stalker, I count among my friends several Bounty Hunters, and a number of VERY large mean Wookies. hee hee

I was wondering why I didn't get to meet you at the Paradiso opening party....

Well I spent the evening completely reinstalling my operating system. Reverted from XP SP1 with all current updates to a clean copy of XP with current drivers for all hardware direct from the vendors.

TOTAL waste of time. Logged in and crashed within 10 seconds.

At this point I can ONLY conclude that something in the code has changed for the worse and they are simply either ignoring it or ignoring the EXISTANCE of the problem.

Grand total of probably 20-30 hour trying to fix this problem when it is now obvious that the problem is with the code. SOE's failure to even acknowledge the problem makes me want to send them an invoice for the wasted 20-30 hours I've spent trying to debug MY system when the problem is with the program and their refusal to acknowledge it. Lets see at $150/hour for 20 hrs (I'll be generous in their favor) that works out to an even $3000.

Please tell me you're at least using XP Pro.

Without the Fisher Price colour scheme.

Yes I use XP Pro with SP1 and all the current updates and hotfixes. Somewhere along the line I ended up with Directx 9.0b and thought that MIGHT be having some impact.

So I did a clean resintall yesterday overwriting my old OS with a clean copy of XP pro using Directx 9.0a. Total waste of time as regards the game. It was probably time to do it anyway since the XP registry grows so large over time that a yearly or semiannual reinstall is a good idea if you install and remove a lot of software as I do. So while I can't play the game for now I DO have plenty to do in the evenings for a few days reinstalling all my tools and software. Laugh!

I even spent a long afternoon and evening with my protocol analyzer patched in looking at network traffic between my machine and the router and searching for possibly malformed packets. No joy. After a lot of time tearing apart and analyzing packets from my machine and hubbys machine (where the game works) I couldn't find anything that seemed to indicate any network problem.

Well, hell.
You've apparently exhausted one field of yours...have you tried putting the PC on a couch and asking it about some inkblots?

Good luck.

No, but I've tried replacing the Sound card the graphics card, and the network card. Thats all the cards IN the machine.

The only thing I have NOT replaced is the motherboard and AMD processor, but hubby has an indentical MB and CPU. Since his works and mine doesn't I have to assume that the MB and CPU is not at fault.

We found out what was wrong with mine....the new video card I bought (a Radeon 9800, first step in a new machine) was plugged into my Slot A motherboard...which doesn't support 4x AGP. The 9800 apparently isn't backwards compatible to 2X like most other cards, and after a few weeks, screwed with the BIOS....
Owchie.

Well in my case (like a lot of folks) it was very discrete. I have been playing since beta with only a few occasional disconnects. Maye 2-3 in several hours of play. A nuisance but liveable.

About 10-14 days ago we got a patch down, a new client version. When I logged in after it applied I crashed within 5 mins of loggin in. That has been the case ever since. Crash times anywhere from a few seconds to a few mins. The LONGEST I have stayed online since that patch is just under 15 mins. More normally I crash within one min of logging in.

Nothing had changed in my machine for several weeks before that. No new software installed, no hardware changes. Pretty much from the time the game opened the first day until the crashes started I used the machine for ONE thing only, SWG. I hadn't even checked my email for prolly 2 weeks before the crashes started.

So I date it to a specific patch and I don't think there is anything I can do on MY end to fix it. It has something to do with either the client program itself or something at the server end. I've given up on being able to do anything but wait. We're paid up through next month. I'll just keep trying it each evening until it either starts working again or our subscription runs out. If it isn't fixed by then we'll just drop it entirely and wish everyone well.
