Thread: Open Letter to the AFK Dancer I accidentally tipped
As I usually do these days, I chose to reward my fellow dancers/musicians as I wanted to be rewarded when I danced full-time. I walked into the cantina, looked at each dancer and musician and selected one of each at random.
My BF disappeared in a very short time, so I /tipped each of them 500cr. That's when I noticed something that brought me up short - the dancer I'd been /watching had been AFK the whole time and I hadn't even noticed!! (As I said, I was extremely tired)
I sent her a /tell. No answer. I watched her stop dancing and sit, and she was still AFK -- in other words, her macro was designed to run for a long time unattended, including breaks for Action regen.
I became angry. It was all MY fault I'd not noticed her AFK tag, but I'd thrown 500cr at someone who was practising the one thing I loathe -- she was macroing her skills, making them meaningless to herself and her fellow dancers.
Embarrassed, I emoted something about not intending to tip AFKers and turned around to tip another dancer who WAS there, another 500cr. I got thanks from both her and the musician I tipped. And still not a single word from the AFKer. When she returned to her keyboard later on she probably didn't even notice she was 500cr richer.
So, whoever you were (I don't remember your name), I wanted you to know that you weren't supposed to get ANY tips from me while you were AFK. And for what it's worth, it's people like you who give the rest of the entertainers the image of being lazy, exploiting and useless. You won't see another credit from me. Ever.
Next time I'll pay attention to the tags
*HUGS*
How frustrating that must have been.
While I was working hard at getting master, I observed this one girl who would constantlybe AFK. I even suspected that she had even put emotes in her macro by hitting having cntrl and a # that would target a person because sometimes another dancer would be suggestively winked at. Some of these AFKers are pros and what bugs me about it most is that they don't just want XP while they are AFK, they want tips. I know I have griped about it countless times on here, but grrrrrrrrr...
Before tipping, RP with the dancers. Pay attention to who reacts and who doesn't. That'll tell you what the score is in any given troupe.

Anyway so i got a tell this morning. and i respond out loud hoping to draw it away from the /tell. He just says, "Oh i was checking to make sure you were really there" and tips my 1000. More customers should be aware that not everyone whose dancing is really there and use their tipping power accordingly.
jao
ps i'm not against macro dancers though I understand many ppl are. I think that ppl who choose to macro should do so in private; alone or with a group of AFK. End of story.
This is entirely unrelated ... but one of the most frustrating things I experience is when I miss someone tipping me.
I have removed the "system announcements" from my primary chat window because I don't want to miss the actual chat. More recently I've created a separate chat window JUST for system announcements, but this hasn't solved my problem either.
About 1/5th of the time I get a tip, I simply miss it in all the scroll about gaining experience. Granted, usually it's only 100 credits or so, but everyone should be thanked.
Just yesterday my credit total went up by 4,000 credits and I never figured out how. I don't know if I missed several tips in a row, or if someone just REALLY enjoyed my dance. But I felt just TERRIBLE because I didn't thank them.
I'm not sure anyone will have any solutions to offer ... but I thought I'd give vent to my guilt here ...
Open your Options window (CTRL O), and look under "Chat Color".
There is a way to color-code certain custom words or phrases as you wish.
I changed "tips" and "bank credits" to bright pink. Now they show up very nicely among the other spam. "tip" lets me know when "so-and-so tips you xx credits". "Bank credits" lets you know when someone tips you from their bank.
