Thread: What DON'T you like about dancing?

This was brought up in the thread about what you DO like about dancing. I thought it might be interesting to hear about what you don't like about dancing - aside from the fact that hardly anybody ever tips and AFKM Dancers take up space in the cantina.

What I don't like as player and character...

- I don't like patrons who get too close to my personal space. I'll only do private dances or 'lap dances' for certain people, usually good friends.

- I like the attention, but I don't particularly like being leered at or groped - which is why I rarely do private dances and only for certain people.

- I don't like patrons who try to kiss me on the lips, I always /cheek me in response to give them a clue.

The usual suspects:

- I don't like Macros that spam the dance floor.

- I don't like pets on the dance floor.

I wish there was a real prohibition against these (pets and AFKMs on the dance floor) as part of the game mechanics. If wishes were horses...

And in-character pet peeves:

- Tsiella never asks for an invite into a band. She already feels like an outsider, as the only non-humanoid dancer, she resents having to ask to be "let in" to the band, and on a deeper level she feels like maybe she doesn't really belong there any way.

- Again, as the only non-humanoid dancer, Tsiella often feels like there's an "in" crowd and she's not part of it. The humanoid dancers flirt with each other frequently, but rarely with anyone not in the "in" crowd.

What about you? If you RP, how do you incorporate any of your player pet peeves into your character's personality?

As a Male dancer...

- I don't like it when a female character comes in, starts to flirt, requesting specific clothes/dances/lights (they are so rare, they get my hopes up). I give them my full attention the entire time they are there and then they leave without tipping.

- I don't like my sexuality being questioned soo often. Although I did see American Wedding over the weekend... the gay dancing seen was just SOOOO funny.

- I don't like the lack of selection of clothing.

Actually, I've probably had more problems with other dancers than I've ever had with patrons. So while some of the very best friends I've made in game have been entertainers, there are also a number of twits running around out there on my /ignore list

They're usually the same people you mentioned - they spam for tips (even in empty cantinas). They /lick and flirt outrageously with every patron who comes in. Some of them even overtly offer sexual favors for money, and we all know what THAT'S called in most law books.

As for "in crowds", there are those. But I've always managed to become a part of those crowds (which are really nothing more than just people who enjoy playing together) by joining in and being pleasant and funny. I don't remember being in any cantina yet that wasn't welcoming and where the other entertainers weren't glad to add another body to the group for more xp

The honor system. That's all that is wrong with the way all entertainer professions workby design. Entertainment healing is backwards. The player wishing to perform needs to be targeting the audience not the other way around (to avoid unattended play and to help give incentive to pay for service).

Nitpicky stuff; Captivator is still mispelled after months of pointing out the mistake. Lyrical and lyrical 2 look awful before you flourish yet /dance allows any character in the game to perform the same steps and look good doing it.

I don't like how the cantina I have always danced in is turning into a whorehouse. I think this is making myself and other masters leave the city cantinas and dancing in private ones, or going off to exotic cities. I just hate trying to heal people (many of whom are teens and actually uncomfortable with the aggressive sex scene) and right nextto me is someone giving a lap dance. Take it to the back room.

I hate AFK macroers on the main floor, especially when they don't have their flag up and also doing lyrical and formal in the middle of the floor and then ending up the stairs. Wish they would dance their way out of the cantina.

I hate being disrespected by patrons.

I hate when people beg for tips and dance intheir undies, although I think the men intheir undies dancing is a riot. The females look trashy.

But all in all, I adore most of my fellow dancers and performers. The ones I have really grown fond of are hardly in the cantina when I am. I miss them, but we do /tell each other often to keep up with the gossip.

- 3 flourishes in my master profession

- messing up my dances just as often as a novice entertainer does. Musicians don't play flat notes or flub up their song, why do I have to fall on my face in front of everyone?

- afk /tip macros.

- names like "HotSexy Chick", "Lover Girl" or other obvious male player/girl avatar names (at least to me most girl players have a real roleplaying name than some stupid name like this)

- outfits that don't match. At least ask your girlfriend/sister/mom if that top and bottom matches with those shoes. Sheesh! (hehehehe just a pet peeve but I'm sure I'm not alone)

The most frustrating thing I've found lately is being in a room full of entertainers and being the only one who is greeting and talking with the customers. I'm amazed by the number of entertainers that can be in a cantina all evening and not say a single word to anyone, either customer or fellow entertainer (some may be AFK without the flag up, but a lot of them are half there). This always makes me try too hard to be welcoming and chatty to make up for their lack of courtesy and burns me out, reducing my enjoyment of the game trying to increase everyone else's.

An increasing number of customers are coming in with major BF and/or mind wounds and not even giving a thank you when they leave. A simple /thank before you run out is all I ask.

Feeling like my little human is invisible next to the half-naked, pixie pink and blue Twi'leks even though I'm the only one communicating and interacting and they haven't said a word all evening. Sniff...

Having to /slap at least one person every evening for kissing me on the lips. What is with all of the uncalled for kissing anyway? lol

The constant falls. I love it when I fail 4 out of 5 flourishes in a row, and the fall in exotic is so graceful... yeah...

And I hate how small my personal inventory is. I can't hold my entire wardrobe and have to keep some of it in the bank! It's simply terrible! I really need a droid or NPC pet to manage my wardrobe for me.

-Jerk patrons who either come and stand one millimeter away from me or even stand IN me and stay there.

-Jerk patrons who think they're clever and witty with remarks to the female dancers

-Jerk patrons who decide to go the whole gay/fag namecalling route. Ugh. Yes, I'm gay, and yes, I know, so there is no need to point it out to me, thanks And use of "fag" or "faggot" will get you /reported instantly. Just as bad as "**edit**."

-AFK Macroers. Enough said.

-Addendum: Especially when they take up all the space!

-Underwear dancers.

-Addendum: And then they spam for tips.

-Clothing selection for guys. Oh, wait...what selection?

-Failing multiple flourishes in a row or failing often. I've seen Novice Entertainers do better...I mean, come on already. I've seen a master dancer fall, and that's just wrong. ^.^;

-LACK of flourishes for some dances. Formal only has 3 unique, Popular at least has 6, Poplock has 4...so on.

-Um. Anything else I missed!

Hmm...

  • AFK dancers in the middle of the floor

  • people trying to sit on top of me while I'm dancing

  • other dancers/musicians trying to perform on top of me

  • the lack of more flourishes! (3 for exotic2, and I'm not counting the ugly jittery one)

Thankfully, that's really about it.. I haven't had that many rude customers, and most of them apologize later for their actions. Yay!

No real roleplayer would make up a character name like that, regardless of gender of the player or the PC.

What I don't like is spending a month in a cantina to get master only to learn that all I got was a total of 5 new florishes one of which is an insult to the profession. How about lowering action cost, increasing exotic flourishes, making a masters lightshows last longer, adding clothes that only a master can wear, allowing masters to heal BF in camps, stopping random falls on dances at master...why is it that I feel so cheated. Well I guess that's why lol.

The thing that really gets to me is falling! All I have left to achieve Master is Tech 4 and I still fall!! It is extremely humiliating...no one with skills this high would be falling like this...I think the falling should cease once one is high in the tree.

I don't like:

-Being asked to give a lap dance because my musician husband is always right beside me and we have the same last name. Some people don't really pay attention to that so I'll politely say, "I'm sorry. I'm married and do not give lap dances. BTW, meet my husband, he's playing the music here."

-People refusing to respect the fact that I don't give lap dances even when I point out the above.

-People who say crude and crass things to me, likely because they just discovered they got their 1st pubic hair and they think this out-pouring of disgusting language will make me run away with them. (?)

-Dancers that flirt SO much that people begin to think all dancers do that and in turn, start to expect it from me (which ain't ever gonna happen).

-Being in a group when someone goes deep afk without a word, or an AFK tag over their head.
