Ah, my home town. Not as lush and picturesque as Naboo, and the City Fathers really need to get on Parks and Rec Department to clean up those stupid little "nature areas" that seem to fill up any open space not currently occupied by a building. You would think with the amount of rain Dearic gets that growing foliage wouldn't be a problem, but there you have it. The terrain surrounding the city is just as untended, thedead grass ripe for a nasty brush fire, but get out over the river and there are some nice grasslands, rolling hills, and lots of nefarious characters just waiting to take advantage of an intrepid traveler.

Dearic has all the services you expect in a city; medical facility, shuttle port, bank, all guilds and trainers, and of course, a cantina. Nothing remarkable or noteworthy about the setting, you've seen it before, but it's location near both the starport and down the street from the medical facility keep faces in the door. It is the meeting place in town, followed closely by the bank, and there are Reb mission terminals and a recruiter conveniently outside the door. Unfortunately, there's also at least one recruiter camper ready to pounce on a newly-minted rebel, or maybe just taking names. I don't know. Luckily the Reb terminal in the hotel on the other side of town offers a more clandestine location to conduct that sort of business.

The entertainment in Dearic is pretty down home. Thankfully the underwear dancers are few and far inbetween. In their place you'll find a fairly dressed down group with a couple of notable fashion plates here and there (Dearic regular Kat has an amazing wardrobe and she likes to show skin. I'm forever jealous of whatever she's wearing and her tall, stunning appearance). Part of the issue here is the lack of tailors. Gisi is working hard to get her skills up, but her gains are slow for the dancer on the prowl for new dance wear. To her credit, she's raising her skills across the board and once she makes the climb to Master in tailoring as well as dance, we'll all have a big party in her honor. So, if you're looking to make your mark as a designer of dance costumes, you have a hungry clientele just waiting for you to open up shop in Dearic.

Customers, our bread and butter, are not as plentiful in Dearic as in other places in the galaxy. Turns out Dearic is not the greatest place for an eager hunter to earn xp or credits. The big payoff missions almost always take you off planet, so unless you're just farming the local thugs and wildlife, Dearic is no more than a starting point for the upwardly mobile. That's the bad news. The good news is that the folks in Dearic are very regular and generous tippers, and the locals are just as entertaining as the show. I've had more fun with customers in Dearic than any place else in the galaxy, and I've probably earned the best living there.

The xp in Dearic is, in a word, abysmal. Because your average group is no more than 7 dancers and musicians, most not more than apprentices, you're not going to see huge gains towards getting that next level. It can be excruciating if the crowd is not talkative or your group doesn't entertain itself. Reigning Queen Gisi makes occasional appearances now and then, but it's usually because someone has asked for training or she's making a delivery. If you're looking for a place to grind away at your skills, look elsewhere. I have to admit howeverthis sorry state of affairs does have it's one redeeming quality: hardly any AFKM'ers.

There are some very special guys in the band in Dearic, most notably a rodian by the name of Renardo. He's often at the pub, and worth the trip just to hang out and talk smart with. He's a very snappy dresser and will tell you about and show you his extensive wardrobe every chance he gets. He's also somewhat self-conscious about being little and blue and takes a lot of teasing about it. As a musician, I'm sure he makes some of the best money because he's so funny and engaging with both his group and customers.

So there you have it, Dearic is a mixed bag. If the xp gain was better I would give it a higher score. If you're looking for an easy-does-it kind of work environment, friendly colleagues and customers and some change in your pocket when you leave, Sleepy Old Dearic is not a bad place at all.

Yours in the life,
Shinia Whendi
