OK I tried Warryr's suggestion and it works great! I also put in a sentence colorization for the tell from myself (keying off the word "macro") to make the tells to myself stand out more.

Yay!!

I already use /alarmaddin to time them out. But with a few quick changes and a /echo with a color change and I have a 3 minute 10 second buff macro. That makes it very easy to tell when it's done.

my only worry is what am I going to do about my clothing changes ? Those make for a great add in to some of the dances I have and people always love them. I just hope I don't have to stop doing them.

The genius Warryr, Musician Dev Pro Tempore, posted this in another thread:

It won't hurt the 3 minute buff.In fact, try it now and get used to doing it. Won't be sucha shock when the new system is in place.

Do the 5 flo's and the pause of 8 seconds in a macro (or just use your old one and take out the /ui action command at the end). Now copy and paste those flo's and the pause in the same macro 3 more times (4 total iterations of the same commands in one macro). At the end of the macro, put a /tell to yourself in that says "Hit F1 again!" Wait to hear the /tell, hit the Hotkey the macro is in. You should only have to hit the F1 key6 times to do the 3 minute buff.

Or, instead of 4 iterations of the macro, make it 8 iterations. Now you only have to hit your F1 key 3 times in 3 minutes.

This is exactly what I was thinking of. Thank you so much for elucidating it for me. I'm going to program this tonight and try it.

Any other ideas?

Clothes changes aren't recursive macros last I checked.

Since length makes a difference now, might want to change the 8 seconds to 10 seconds.. Cause technically that's what the pause is.. But with something just looping it doesn't really make a difference. If you want to be super paranoid, make it 9.5 seconds.

"Clothes changes aren't recursive macros last I checked."

No not as such, but in order to elimate recursive macros most likely the command "ui action toolbarSlotXX" that people use to perform the quickchange will be removed from the game.

If it is, I know 3 other ways to loop macros. I am fully prepared to shoot down any system the devs bring out that tries to address it by blocking individual methods for looping. That is too open for someone discovering something new. I went a bit easy on the speed buff fix because it was something just starting to get out of hand, which was rapidly becoming a problem. I'm not going to make the same mistake here.

(And yes, I meant that 3 other ways. I started brainstorming last night and have come up with, and tested, two ways nobody has thought of yet.)

They could also change the /ui actiot toolbarSlotXX to implement the following:

if SlotXX=Macro then "do nothing"

else "press hotkey"

But you'll be surprised... you don't need macros for cloth-changes... i change my clothes with smokebomb all the time and I use not a single macro for it. Have smokebomb on Shift-F12, the other 23 slots are filled with clothes... Shift F12 and fast the other few keys... ain't that hard...

That's always beensomething I've thought ofwhenconsidering an environment with norecursive macros. It was just a sacrifice I was willing to make, if need be. And still am. Too bad, but if recursive macros, AFKing and bots of any kind can be shut down, I'm so willing to forsake the nifty smokebomb quickchange. No question.

you can do a full 3:10 buff with 3 clicks, no calling macros, no uiactiontoolbar, no prompting to click later, etc. This is what I did:

buff1:

/flo x 5;

/pause 8;

repeat 7 times;

buff2:

/pause 64;

/flo x 5;

/pause 8;

repeat flo/pause 7 times;

buff3:

/puase 128;

/flo x 5;

/pause 8;

repeat flo/pause 5 times;

/addalarm 0 0 Buff is done

Set these up on your toolbar while dancing/playing and click all three in order when you want to start a buff. Simple.
