Differences of opinions aside...

I'm sorry for being a troll in pushing my bot opinion and my agenda. I know how you guys feel and vice versa. Plase accept my appologies.

I do have some legitimate questions with regards to macro use. Questions that will be helpful today and later on when recursive macros are gone.

I'm also happy to share my macros with ATK players so they can create their own Non Recursive macros to use as tools not cheats.

Is it ok with you guys to discuss them in this board?

here is an example of what I want to talk about....

-----
When a new customer asks me for a buff, I kick off a series of macros that run through the entire process. It does a dance first then switches to music then disbands. The macros also keep the person I'm buffing informed about what's going on. It tells them to make sure that /watch, it counts down the time needed to get a full buff, it tells them when to stop watching. This is especially good for people who are getting a mind buff for the first time because sometimes they don't realize that they actually have to do something.

Currently I'm using all in game macros, but I want to switch to using aliases that are written and stored in text files that I can then load up with /load.

I've written a couple of tests but I'm running into problems when you try to use /g or /group so that you can keep your messages from spamming spacial.

Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know whether this is a bug or feature? Do I have to use a combination of macros and aliases to target specific chat rooms like spacial or group or guild?
-----

I won't try to BS you guys. I will use what I learn to Improve my bots performance, which will obviosly be gone once recursive macros are gone. However, I will not actively promote the use of bots like I have been.

I'm thinking of it the same way ciggerette companies do.

Smoking is bad, it really should be illegal but there's too much money in it and everyone knows that the big business wins in our society.

But....
Cigerette companies are required to spend a percentage of their time and money on Anti-Smoking campaings. They actually have to campaign against themselves and give something to the community other than cancer.

I may be a cancer on your profession, but at least benefit from my cancer research (macro writing research).

C'mon, you got to admit that's at least a little bit funny

Could you be more specific? Are you receiving any messages when it hits that point in the macro? Is it simply not displaying, yet continuing past that point?

I've not heard anything about aliases not being able to utilize groupchat functions. Is the macro / alias that addresses the player in groupchat called from the original launching macro? If it's called from a previous alias, it won't work. You cannot use an alias to call another alias.

What problem are you running into with group chat?

And what are your aliases named? You have to be careful as it's possible to name alaises such that they block real commands from being used. For example, naming an alias gap would cause a problem.

I usually add an extra character to alias names to distinguish them. For example, if I wanted an alias named "sing" I'd call it :sing and use /:sing. If I'm making multi-part aliases such as for a song, I'll do something like :drinky:l5 for the 5th line of the drinky bird song, and :drinky:sing to start the whole thing.

Alias file looks like this. This is my test one anyhow. I've broken it out line by line, normally i have to smash it all together in one line, but it's easier to read this way.

The problem is that the messages are showing up in spacial and not sending only to the group chat window.

It works if i write a regular macro but not as an alias.

startBuffDance:
/g dance is starting in 10 seconds, be sure to start watching;
/pause 5;
/g starting in 5 seconds
/startdance exotic4;
/pause 5;
/g start watching NOW!
/g 4 minutes remain;
/pause 30;
/g 3.5 minutes remain;
/g pause 30;
/g 3 minutes remain;

.... macro continues counting down ....

/g 10 seconds, prepare to stop watching;
/pause 5;
/g 5 seconds;
/pause 5;
/g Stop Watching Now!;
/pause 10;
/stopdance;

I was trying to think of if I'd used groupsay in aliases... I certainly have and it's not been a problem for me. I have a music alias that gives instructions to the band members at one point and it goes to group.

Is it coming out as just a regular say, or is it using some mood or alternate form of speaking?

(To the person who said aliases can't call themselves, that's not entirely true.. They can, you have have to stand on your head and bark like a chicken sometimes to get it to work.)

Perhaps a hint of the problem is he used the words /g or /group in his description. I have no idea whether this is one of the issues, but I'm reminded of the /threaten emote that attempts to use /threatenShot instaead.
Perhaps typing out the whole command /groupsay would fix it?

Haha, ok, I've tried a few different ways but never had it work. Maybe I'll attempt the head-stand chicken-bark method.

I would have suggested the same test that Scipionus did. It's changing the means of communication, so it can't be correctly recognizing the command. Maybe you have another alias that begins with /gand has a second letter that comes before "r" in the alphabet? Does it launch another alias for no apparent reason?

Okay, I'm going to ask a question, and feel free to label me a n00b...

What's an Alias?

It's a function that allows you to create your own commands.

Instead of typing /macro DrinkyBirdDance, you can simply type /drinkybirddance (or an abbreviation, whatever you care to name it).

It's helpful when you have good friends that you send tells to frequently.

Type /alias <Name of Alias> <Command orgroup of commands> to set the alias.

For example "/alias Elo /tell Eloran" will allow you to type /elo "text" to send a tell to eloran. (Seriously cuts down on mistells too. /elo won't respond to the last person that sent you a tell )

There are many more complex uses for them, but that's one common one.

The reason it is spamming spatial is sometimes you are not in a group. /g won't work unless youare in a group(I'm assuming).

Does it ALWAYS spam spatial, or does it only spam spatial when you are not in a group?
