Thread: Why would some not get buffs?

I think there is another bug, where if they are listening to a musician while watching the dancer for a buff, the buff does not always stick.

What are the reasons I can tell people when they tell me "I didnt get the buff???"

I get it all the time, but never have issue's when I buff my main.

they probably didn't /listen then /stoplisten or /watch then /stopwatch

Also, have them examine you first then listen or watch. Sometimes if they are bugged it will fix it. Strange but it's worked before (on my bot).

I usually make sure that I see a trickle of healing xp for the dance I'm doing before I start doing heavy flourishes. Off the top of my head, novice entertainer (Basic/rhythmic) gives 2xp, novice dancer (Popular/poplock) gives 4xp and master dancer (Exotic3/4, Lyrical2) gives 7xp, with the others in-between. If you're healing someone already this will show up as a third line of healing xp.

If your healing xp is capped, drop master and a box of healing then retrain both. Or repeat the box of healing to cut it down a bit more before retraining master. Or do like I did and take up musician.

True that..you can no longer receive a buff from a musician and a dancer at the same time (unless this has changed without me noticing anything in any notes). If the watcher is meditating, emoting a lot or moves around (especially more than 10m from me), these will kill the buff. I've never had a buff come up short (not the full length of time), in fact, most of mine are over 2 hours..usually between 2 hours 10 sec and 2 hours 7 min. It seems about 5% of my buff attempts are failing. Until recently this happened only when I was using /setperform but a few nights ago I had a buff fail on a good friend in a group with me. All other members of the group got full buffs. I've no idea why that one failed.

Some people try to exploit a bug called 'buff stacking' where they can attain 2 of the same buffs by getting one buff, then getting another without /stopwatch in between the buffs. They get the first one and say it didn't work, then they get another one on top. If someone says that the buff didn't work for them, I never buff them again. I will let them leave the cantina and activate the buff, then they can kill whatever they want. They manage to get these buffs for free of course, but I'd rather forfeit payment than help an exploiter.

Uhm... Buff stacking? Does this really work or is this a wild rumor? I have buffs fail about 5% of the time. Sometimes it's because the person attempted to do something else while getting buffed - like trade with someone or train someone. Bascially they need to sit there and watch (or listen) and not do anything else except talk.

When you wish upon a falling star, your dreams can come true. Unless it's really a meteorite hurtling to the Earth which will destroy all life. Then you're pretty much hosed no matter what you wish for. Unless it's death by meteor.

One trick that seems to boost the reliability of buffs is to have them /stopw and /stopl before they start watching/listening to you. That gets around the "cant watch and listen at the same time bug", which seems to be the most common cause of buffs not applying.

Often the game will consider them still watching or listening to the previous entertainer until they've explicitly issued these commands.

You watch the dancer or listen to the musician until you get the buff. Then you /stopw or /stopl to activate it. After that, they can /startwatch or listen again and stand there for another buff session. Once that's completed, they leave without /stopwatch or /stoplisten. Many times the game thinks they're still watching or listening to the entertainer, so it doesn't attempt to activate a buff that they already have.

Once the firstbuff runs out in 2 hours, they type /stopwatch or /stoplisten while still in the wild to activate the second buff and continue their grind for another 2 hours.

Some have asked specifically for these. There was a time where I would grant them, if they paid for both buffs (even though it's not guaranteed to work), but I'm not sure how the devs view this in terms of EULA violations, so I've stopped doing so after the first few. It's obviously an exploit. Just not sureabout what punishment they would be willing to throw at the buffer and buffee.

(This is something that musicians specifically should be aware of, not Dancers. Musicians can't tell whether or not the secondary buff has set on the player and can be conned into giving a second for free.)

I believe that the buff stacking was fixed when they fixed the quick buff. That patch seem to break buffs alittle. you use to also /setperform on someone who had a buff and they could /stopwatch after cloning, or whenever it ran out. I thought it was restricted to buffing those who had buffs already. Of course i found that part out by from an elite pvp group that needed a buff, and later told by them it didn't work. If anyone know how to exploit a bug its the pvp'ers,
