A 'how to' on writing a creative macro sounds interesting. I don't think you need to give them your exact routines or give them routines that you ever would actually want to use. Just make short easy to understand macros that do simple things using the macro commands that you feel people aren't aware of and make make good creative use from.

personally, i'd love to see what you've got i've been planning on making a new character just to watch you dance, at some point, to see what i could learn. it would be great if you could show us some of your more impressive advanced tricks and techniques- i'm sure a lot of people could build off of them, and as a community come up with some really impressive stuff

here's something i saw someone doing recently- i take no credit for this.

one of the dancers in theed was dancing in a robe. the neat thing was, they had a macro set up, to constantly switch to a different robe of the same style, but a different color. just a basic clothes changing macro, but it made for a really neat effect while performing in a loop, and i think that idea definitely has some potential.... perhaps you could make a macro that would very quickly switch between two colors of the same outfit... creating a pseudo-shimmering effect?

Ooh good idea, have a class on your server! I'd come and bring some of our guild as well. Don't know how feesible this is but it might cut out some people looking for the quick fix to afk'ing.

For all those that havn't been following Sultrina's Dance School I have anounced my intention to write a step by step guide to advanced dance techniqes called Sultrina's Dance Acadamy. I am working out my lession plan format and this is the one I would like to use.

<short macro showing the lesson>

<text explainign how to do it by hand>

<tips on how to get the most from the days lesson>

<lead in to next lesson>

The thing that bothers me is the macro part. It lets me "show" you things and that's good. It also lets people simply come to the lesson and copy paste the macro. This has its good points and bad points. Because these macros are writen for "show" and not EXP the macrotainers should get little from them. People who use them to boogie a bit while then run for coffee, check the mail or deal with their children however would at least have good looking macros to auto pilot with and I'm not shure thats a bad thing. All that said once I post these macros there is no takign them back so I want to know everyones opinion on this aproach to teaching.

Sultrina,

I for one would like to see this. I'm really impressed that you are willing to devulge so many tips to us. I have seen a whole ton of macrotainers and there macros usually consist of one or two flos over and over. I doubt too many of them visit the message boards, any more than they visit their computers. It would be a shame to miss out on this good information because of them. I say post it! And I can't wait to see them

I am not a dancer but I read the boards and I think AFKers have to be dealt with in a way that allows people at the keyboard to "get" more. How this can be done is beyound me I am sure other people in this profession have great ideas. Anyway, do you have marco part of your lessons ? Is there another way ? Can you post screen shots on a server or something else ? If you have to have the macro at this time I think you will just inspire the FS seekers and other AFKers to match "real" players better.

Just my thoughs.

I love the robe trick, I was goign to try somthign similar with switching between black shorts/white top and white shorts/black top then adding some psycodelic colors into the mix untill I either decided it looked stupid or coming up with something fun <giggle>

People visiting me from other servers sounds like lots of fun to me, just don't think me mean if I'm too busy to help when you do <giggle> Most the things I talk about can be done with a novice entertainer so you wont have to do anything but start a character to have us work together

by the way Ive decided against the macro idea for one big reason. Timing is what we need to learn and macros timign can be off especialy folowing a patch. Wich means simply I can give you the macro but I have no garentee you will see what I want to show and that can be more confusing then not having the macro. That is not to say there wont be macros in my guide it just means I wont rely on them for a show and tell sort of deal.

Sultrina:

Why not just cover the essential basics? Like, for example, an outfit change? You load your outfit (let's say three pieces) into your first, second, and third toolbar slots. Then, to quickly equip the outfit, add this line to your macro text file:

outfit1 /alias /smokebomb; /ui action toolbarSlot00; /ui action toolbarSlot01; /ui action toolbarSlot02;

Then, to execute: /outfit1

/giggle self I'm not even 100% sure that I did the example above correctly!

I think that there is a lot of helpful info that you can put here, still without allowing someone to copy/paste. Then, you could discuss the fine aspects of timing, and explain that it's something that you'll have to experiment with, and constantly tweak.

It sounds like you've already come to a decision, though. Either way, I appreciate your contributions, hun!

What may be more useful Sultrina is to have people write their own macro following the lesson as a sort of test to ensure they have understood it

As for the dance school thing mentioned above, I was actually talking about doing this once the city is all setup on Eclipse so nice to see others have the same thoughts. It bodes well for entertaining

While not doing the macro part is fine. I would be interested myself at thetimings... I'm slowly working on writing everything down myself.(how long each flourish takes from each different dance. How long each part of a flourish ect.) It's taking me a bit since I've recently not had nearly enough time to log in. But hopefully one of these days I get it all down.
