Dancer Archive
Thread: Ok, even I think this is sad.
Here is a typical Night in Cornet on the Radiant Server. I usually lead the group from 6pm to 12pm MST and then look for a new leader. Each one of those tells was 4-5 min apart. I looks like some in the group are not dancing in the sidebar, but they’re just resting.
I am for AFK dancing, but this is just sad.
Btw: that reply to kwisatz was about an hour old. No one talked in group chat for that long.

This is a perfect example of the "sea of AFK Zombies" Sultrina and Velvet-dancer keep talking about. Now imagine that instead of being a second account, this is your ONLY character, the cantina is your HOME cantina where you know all the patrons and you, silly fool that you are, went there for the evening hoping for some social interaction and roleplay with the other dancers. (Again, lest there be confusion, I do not mean "you" personal... this is the "editorial you" as in, a generic person -- anyone.)
NOW do you understand what we who are at-keyboard when we play have been complaining about?

AFK macros are a "problem" in a lot of different professions.
Is it more of a problem in the dancer profession? or does it just get more bad press?

I think it gets more bad press because we are not really meant to solo our way to Master Dancer. Because grouping with other entertainers is our best way of gaining xp, we are more likely to notice that our peers aren't there. Because we tend to look to our peers for socialization (as we tend to desire socialization as part of our gameplay moreso than other classes), we are more impacted by AFK'ers. Because our main means of income is based on the goodness of others, AFK'ers take away our limited control of getting paid (though I was not highly impacted by that), in that, even if I refuse service to someone with a history of not paying me, he/she can get that service for free from the bot next to me.
I don't know if there are more AFK'ers in the entertainment profession than in others. My guess is that there are. I think if people were AFK'ing their way to Master Combat Medic, Creature Handler, Commando, or Bounty Hunter in a week's time, those professions would be complaining more loudly too.
As long as it is SOE's policy that this is a legitimate playstyle, there's really very little that can be done other than letting SOE know how we feel about it.

Was this before or after I was there?
Probably after, it was 1 am MST.

Looks like just another night in one of several cantinas on Tempest.
I don't understand what you're complaining about now since you were one of the voices who kept repeating "There is no problem", so to hear you say this is sad is well... funny
/sing Welcome to the AFK Tina !
