Dancer Archive
Thread: Goodbye everyone and some final thoughts.
I've enjoyed your input here and I hope we will see you around.
I made master dancer last night, took 9 days. As it turns out I ended up getting about 80% of my XP ATK. Well, Kind of ATK. My dancer char was marcoing while I was on my other char, I had the AFK response say “Send a tell to Mafoo if you need anything”. I lead the group most of the time being that I was contactable for 6 hours straight to give training, add people, and to kick people. Only kicked one, but hay, he deserved it. As anyone who has been reading my posts know, I have only been dancing so I can have a buffer available at all times. Dancing is not my focus in SWG, and thus I don’t share the passion most of you do about it. That being said, I have found a new perspective on the people that pick this as a profession. So here are my thought.
True AFK Entertainers: Wow, there are some good ones and some bad ones. We had one that would SPAM text every 10 seconds, really annoyed me. If the leader was AFK, he would add a /tell to his macro asking for an invite, and at the same time scolding the leader for being AFK while leading the group. We had one that would add little things to her macro to make it look like she was ATK when she was not. Being a deceptive thing to do, that annoyed me as well. Other then the ones that Spammed text so often, all of them were polite and not obtrusive at all. Even the ones that spammed text every 5 min asking for heals and tips did not annoy me that much.
ATK Entertainers: All of the people that stayed ATK during there entertainment were very nice (Other then the over the top jerk I kicked, he was holoed to the profession). All but two of the AFK dancers were very nice while they were ATK.
I would have to say on a whole, the entertainment profession is the friendliest group of people in the game.
I talked to one dancer that dances ATK all the time. She said she did not mind the AFK dancers too much, and made about 100K a day dancing. I watched her work and can understand why. I tend to agree with some other posts here, if you’re not making money, it all because you’re not entertaining, not because there are AFK dancers.
Do I think AFK dancing should go away? No, if that’s what you want to do with your 15 bucks so be it, but I do think some things should change. There should be no way to grief another player in any MMO, and I think a lot of AFK Dancers grief the ones ATK.
I also agree with Raven that player cities will change things. I fly to NPC cities atm only to run out to a loc to buy something. I think the one main reason player cities will thrive is venders. If I could fly to a vender I would. Venders will pull people. There are city structures that add 15% to the final experimentation on items. This will make venders in player cities more attractive. Once you get a few good cities, the entertainment community can flourish. I think that once 2 or 3 good player cities per planet get established, that NPC cities will become ghost towns.
I want to thank you all for the stimulating debates here. None of them seem to turn into flame wars like they do on the other boards. Everyone has there side and seems to disuse it in a manner that is purely to educate others on there point of view. I wish all boards were as well mannered as this one.
I only wonder what would be the primary topic of debate here if AFK macroing didn’t’ exist.
Take care and good luck you to all in the future,
Mafoo / Watts Edison
Master dancer in 9 days, huh?
It took me 90 days. But that was because I did so much AFK Macrotaining. Heh.
Oops. Wait. If I had actually done AFK Macrotaining, I could have done it in less than 90 days.
Maybe.
That about covers my experiences as well, Mafoo, and I have nearly 6 months of them. Most of the good in-game friends I know now I met in the cantina doing the entertainer thing. I'd hate to have missed all of those experiences because I wasn't at my keyboard to experience them. On the whole, AFK entertainers aren't bad people as many of them are generally nice people when they're at the keyboard.
But there are bad apples both AFK and not.
I still really wish it weren't so easy to macrotain, though.
