Thread: Factioned NPC's in cantinas (non-GCW)

Ok, I'm gonna be bold here and try starting a new message thread, but this is something that's been bugging me since it happened a couple weeks ago. I was in the cantina in Wayfar minding my own business dancing late at night to kill some time and hopefully help anyone who might come by. I had a little trouble with an imperial scan and was waiting to go covert again. So I'm within about 5 minutes of changing status when the cantina gets hit with an imperial crackdown. Long story short, I get chased out of the cantina and things don't go well. 4 or 5 ST's vs one unarmed dancer doesn't make for much of a fight. Fortunately it's no worse than an incap, and I limp back to the cantina only to finish going covert within a minute of returning. Ok, so now I realize that being overt even in the Wayfar cantina isn't as safe as I thought it would be. Lesson learned.

Now I'm deciding what to do next, and there's no one else around when I notice a yellow dot on my radar coming into the cantina. I think this is odd because I never really noticed NPC's going in and out of buildings much - not on their own anyway. As it turns the corner and enters the room with me, I find out it's some kind of Jabba guard. Immediately I'm thinking, "What's my Jabba faction?". Then I figure that since it's yellow I must not have anything to worry about. I start to relax as the thing practically walks right up to me - and suddenly opens fire! For the second time in less than 15 minutes I get chased out of the cantina fleeing for my life, but this NPC proves to be faster and deadlier than the ST's and shoots me dead right after I get out of the back door of the cantina. I was so upset I logged for the night as soon as I finished cloning.

I was wondering if this ever happened to anyone else? Have you ever been attacked in a cantina by hostile NPC's (not counting imps or rebs)? I had always felt like cantinas were like safe areas where you wouldn't have to worry about getting attacked (unless maybe you were overt). I think there are two things wrong with this scenario. Most obviously the NPC should have shown as red, and not yellow so that I knew it was going to be hostile. I suppose this is a game mechanics bug, and maybe needs to be reported elsewhere (besides, I've seen several other examples of yellow NPC's that attack when you get close so I think it's a larger issue). Second, and of more interest to our profession, why are these potentially hostile NPC's allowed to just wander into cantina at all? The people most likely to be in a cantina are entertainers who may or may not have any combat skills. We're there to help heal others, and I don't think we should have to worry about having to protect ourselves from stray, hostile NPC's that may happen to wander through. Now maybe this is just a game element that I wasn't aware of, and there's intended to be an element of risk in going to a far-off cantina. If that is the case then maybe I need to start dancing with a pistol in my hand and an attack droid at my side, but that's not why I became a dancer. I had a similar experience at the Moenia cantina where there are plasma thieves or whatever that typically spawn in front of it and wander around it. In that case they were again yellow, but aggroed on me while I was trying to get INTO the cantina. I think I ended up having to go into the back because there were too many in front of it, and even there I had to shake one off.

I guess I'm just wondering if this has been much of a problem for anyone else, or whether it could be raised as a potential dev issue. Granted I had a major problem with it only the one time, but I would hate to have to deal with it again, and I think how annoying it would be for a group of ents. to get chased out of a cantina because some hostile happens to walk in on them while they're trying to have fun and no one happens to have much combat skill.

First... go brave dancer go! We're social, we should all be forum spammers... erm, I mean, posters.

This NPC thing is new... I had one chase me down and stalk meon my euro baby Dancer and I mostly ran... a lot, hehe. *thanks the maker that cantinas have front and back doors*

This is supposed to add fun and immersion to Cantinas for everyone. The Tat cities are seeing the first real taste of this change. I think it's kind of cool, I see the problems too though.

What's the overall? Do we like it?

Wow... I've never seen anything like that happen, going aggro and all. But the last two days I've been seeing a few droids wander through the Dearic cantina... which was also new to me. And I have seen NPC's follow a player into cantinas... had a couple of NPC ST's do that to do some random scans one night in Kaadara. Perhaps things have changed?

The only time I've been in a fight inside a cantina was in Bestine, when a doc who was trying to avoid gaining any Combat XP was being chased by spice fiends. He led them into the cantina in the hopes that someone would be there to kill off the fiends for him. How cool is it to be writhing along with Exotic 2, then stop, pull a blaster, gun down a pair of maniacal spice fiends, then casually holster the pistol and return to Ex 2 with only a comment of "Spice fiends... they had it coming to them"?

I do like it... didn't know it was indeed a new thing for sure though. Of course, part of why I like it is that I'm also not too shabby with a blaster... 0 0 2 1 Pistoleer at the moment as well as Master Dancer. I might feel a bit different about aggresive mobs coming in to attack the entertainment if I couldn't take care of myself...
