Thread: Enlightenment: AFK Dancers
It not the AFK dancers that really are a pain. It's the AFK shouters that bother.
So have suggestion. Change your macro up a bit or better yet use two!! Something like so:
Macro 1:
/startdance basic;
/join;
/flo 1;
/pause 8;
/flo 2;
/pause 8;
/flo 3;
/pause 8;
/ui action toolbarSlotXX; (where xx coincided with hotkey back # minus 1)
Macro 2:
/shout Heals always appreciated!;
/pause 600;
/shout Invite me to group if I am not already;
/pause 600;
/shout Welcome to the Cantina. Be sure to /watch the dancers to get healed!
/pause 600;
/shout Darth Vader is a Wookiee lover!!
/pause 600;
/ui action toolbarSlotXX;
Basically, by using 1 macro for the shouts, you can space them out easier and have it say a few different things. As written above, this macro will do a shout every 6 mins and there are 4 different ones before it repeats. This alone will help a lot. There is no sense in shouting every minuite. It just irritates people.
I think if you do something like THIS setup, you will find people are much more tolerant of your choice to AFK macro your dancer.

At least the person doesn't get on my ignore list. If I hear the same sentence from a character twice without a sign of human interaction, the name is send straight to my ignore list. To the OP:If you talk in your macro, you will not talk to me, space it out all you like.

I'm pretty sure the OP doesn't macro talk (she only has one macro and it's for potty breaks she said
)... I think she was just trying to help them be less annoying.I don't like any macroed text personally, it all pretty much gets on my nerves. I mostly just don't understand it. What is the point?
Anyway, if you have to do it for what ever reason, I think Fifi is right... run one long pause text macro and a different dance macro. ![]()
I loathe AFK spam. But if the spam is cycled every 40 minutes, it's more bearable. I've spent hours in a cantina before, so it can still get annoying.
One thing I'd add: Make them /say or, better yet, /whisper instead of /shout. A /shout reaches everyone within 100 meteres. A /say reaches everyone within 50 meters, which will encompass the entire cantina (unless you dance in the doorway, but you're a twit if you do that anyway). And a /whisper will reach everyone who actually cares. If someone is watching you, he likely will be right up there watching you and can hear your /whisper. It won't bother everyone else.
Spam if you feel you must, but at least annoy only those who are in the cantina. Save the people in the street the grief.
AFK entertainers themselves are still a problem when the majority of them are afk and they are all over the place instead of in a small corner somewhere. Having 40 minutes between "afk spam messages" might sound nice(and it sure is a heck of a lot better), but when you have over 10 people afk in a cantina, chances are at least one of them will be saying something at any time even with huge pauses between what they are saying.
It's annoying, it's frustrating, and it makes you feel pretty darn lonely and taken for granted at times. =/ The only, in my opinion, times I could ever see justification for an entertainer afk dancing:
1)If something comes up and you do have to go afk because of rl reasons but are coming back as soon as you can(ie not gone for more than 30 minutes).
2) There is no one else in the cantina/player city so you are afk just to keep the place manned.
Those are the only times I can really see afking to possibly be "acceptable". And in all truth, you know how if you sit still and don't do any command you time out after 30 minutes? That time out rule should apply when you are Dancing too. I don't know how you implement it, but if you are afk dancing for more than 30 minutes, you should time out too.

I don't consider item 2 to be a good reason. If you're there all the time, then you diminish the challenge of the game world. Well, what challenge there is.
Compare Theed to Yavin. Theed is a civilized city with access to all the conveniences of technology. You have your "malls" and access to just about any service you could need. It's a safe city (for Neutrals anyway). If you walk to a suburb, you probably won't be jumped by anything nasty. They've been cleaned out by other people (and the CL of critters aren't that high anyway). But you go to Yavin, where shopping is sparse. You're lucky to find a Doctor. You're lucky to find any entertainment. Getting heavily wounded and fatigued out there means that you pretty much need to fly to civilization, which cuts into your hunting or gathering time. Yavin has a greater payout, but it also has a higher risk. AFK entertainers reduce that risk.
The isolated spots might seem like logical choices to /shout your services, but I don't think it's necessary. If someone is looking for a Dancer, guess what they'll do...they go look in the cantina.
