Yes it means you have to dance and have 10 separate players watch you, that place can be a cantina, or it can be in the middle of the street. So long as they watch you. It goes to a stage with 20 people after perf 1, and then to a stagewith 30 people required after perf 2.

A system message will tell you how many people you have left to entertain along the way as players start watching you.

Additionally, note that it doesn't matter if you dance or play music for those 10 people (or the 20 or 30 to come)... it still counts as entertaining them. If you're doing the dancer quests and people listen to you play music, it still works just fine.

So basically its the same thing you do in the cantina then?

Basically, yes. Dance or play music. If someone /watches or /listens to you do it, you get quest credit. But, it's not restricted to being done inside a cantina either... I did most of my 'advertising' parts on live servers at the Coronet starport, playing music for people who'd missed their shuttle. Bored people often like to listen to a bit of music while they wait... so I never had to do the "watch/listen to me, I'm doing the quests!" garbage, and they got a bit of a nicer wait. Worked for both sides.

Not to mention, the tips were pretty great too...

Also, you can get the people to watch/listen in more than one play session. So, if you're up to five people entertained, and need to logout that is ok. The count picks back up after you log back in. You don't have to restart or what have you. I also did most of my advertiseing time in the Coronet Starport.

I would advise against the cantina because the people need to watch you specifically - or at least that's what I found. I got no benefit from them watching others in my group. So I parked myself next to the ticket collector in Coronet, and occasionally made a polite (NON-MACROED) request for someone to listen to me. That worked fairly quickly (within an hour or so for the 20 and the 30) and I was on my way to the next level. I think it helped that I was playing the mando which is an instrument that people will listen to just because it's cool.

I too got most of my watchers at the C'net ticket droid. I danced and occasionally ask people to watch me for my quest while they waited for the shuttle. I had some awesome people /shouting to ask people to help me out. I think it only took me about 20 minutes to do the part where 30 people had to watch.

I did my music quests in coronet starport with friends grouped. I started with one musician and one dancer friend, before we were done we had picked up another musician and dancer. I found it interesting how many people DON'T listen but I also found it interesting that a few who listened asked what was up and then started asking others to listen for me.

Well, I don't know if the coding was changed or not, but when Shianne did her last publicity gig (last week)she wastold to EITHER dance or play music but NOT both. The theater manager was very specific about that. I know that previously I've seen some double masters who were able to get their watchers or listeners count toward whichever side of the quest they were on regardless. I'm wondering if this has changed.

On the other hand, if you're not in a huge hurry, you can do what I did, and go about your normal entertaining business.
No begging, no spam, just keep entertaining live. It'll take you a bit longer, but in my case I still was done with my promotions in less than a week.
Plus you get to see how well you're doing at attracting the attention of those coming into the cantina with your normal behavior . One theory that I have very limited evidence for due to this is that saying something in spatial is more likely to get you watched/listened to than using an emote (like /greet or /wave). Yay for system messages!

I just did the dancer quest, and I was able to entertain them doing both dancer and musican (master in both).

I was maxed on dancing xp before I learned the new dance, so once I am maxed again, I will go back to the Chor. trainer and see if i can learn yet.
