I've always loved the little alcoves in NPC cantinas, I really wish more was going on in this game, people looking shifty and sitting in dark corners...reminds me of the little Mos Eisley nook that Han and Chewie were sitting in...talking to Ben and Luke in hushed tones.

One time I met up with my guild, as we were planning a PvP strike. We were in a secluded NPC cantina, in a corner, all huddled in a side room and whispering. Some folks were standing guard. It was very Star Warsy, a bunch of Rebels huddling together, preparing for some scuffles. There were a couple Dancers who didn't say much, so it made us all pretty nervous...were they eavesdropping? I caught one with a quick /target and untarget of one of us.....and I was itching to get outta there.

Good times.

YES! I would always call for pre-strike meetings in the NPC cantinas as a guild leader / raid leader way back in the day. Our guild meetings generally took place there as well. It was exciting to sit in Coronet at the height of the GCW and continually scan the radar for reds as we plotted our departures and arrivals! The cantina really adds to the Star Wars experience when used properly. It can keep you busy while you wait for those inevitable stragglers to show up, and provide entertainment after the battles as well. I would love to see it become more appealing to both entertainers and combatants alike.

We'll have crafters hooked with targetted inspirations, so I won't mention them.

Actually I was thinking in terms of the other game areas like this that require people to be first come first serve to get the best spots etc for loot, rare items or rare resources.

Those places don't have a mechanic that removes you from the area after a set amount of time. The game can physically clear the floor after a set. If the NPC that you have to sign up with is in the back away from the floor on the other side of a wall, even someone running the best third party program or speed hack couldn't beat someone who is already standing there waiting at the NPC for the next set to start.

There could even be a waiting list that you can't be on if you are on the floor. Then it would be sure to rotate if there are a lot of people wanting to perform at that venue. I don't think it would be necessary as long as the NPC Manager is in the back, but it would be a double safe guard and it does have a kind of neat feel - "I can't leave yet, the Manager is about to call my set!"

Panthu and I have had our battles, but this sort of approach is something she and I agree with.

We have far too many venues than we have entertainers to entertain in them. And I am not talking about the formal venues of theatres, hotels, and cantinas. I am talking about all those places that can operate as venues. Right now, player cantinas are nothing more than fancy houses. Even the grande venues of the MO, Coronet, and Theed are no better or worse than a private house. We need a way to make the venues different, special, and worth going to over a private house.

The cut starport times have hurt us, and the things we used to do there. But in a game with venue control, cut starport times help us. Patrons now have more choice than ever before to go to the major venue they want, but only if there are reasons to go there over the venue they are at.

We also have no real interaction with the game system. We need a game with our patrons. But we also need a game we can play away from them.

We also need to reserve floor space, and rotate the acts that are there. Because the fact remains that one dancer can service an entire room, making another dancer redundant mechanically.

Groups also need to mean something. Right now, we just group everybody that is around "just because." I say groups should have meaning. A "showcased performance" does this.

We also need a way to make the profession require activity in a more direct sense because of the ability to automate for an entire day. Many want this in terms of /watch control, butvenue controlprovides the same sort of effect while actually making intuitive sense.

A dancer cannot just set a macro and walk away for an entire day in a system with venue control. They have to possess the ability to move constantly in order to keep on dancing. Of course, they can macro in some shack. Then again, let them macro away in some shack. If I can give a better draw (maybetwice as much as whatI can give if I do not set up a show in a venue), then let the layabout macro in his shack.

Does it create a wall between our patrons and ourselves in the venue? Yes, and I think we want that, don't we? Its better than the wall a /setperform, /invite, or "authorization menu" puts forth. Becausean exclusive stageactually makes sense, where those others just are silly gimmicks.

We can argue about the specifics of how it can work. I am an advocate of "booking the venue in advance," while Panthu is arguing more for a "locking down of the venue in progress" approach. Both methods are an attempt to bring some activity and purpose back to performing rather than the current paradigm of, "exist, hope patrons what what we have, and hope they will tip for it."

I like this idea. It sounds fun. Also all the "spy" options sound good too! Also, why not have the spy/infomant quests be ones where you don't have to be an entertainer? The player just has to make sure that the atmosphere is right for the mission by "hiring" an entertainer to perform while he/she eaves drops, meets in secret, etc.

good, no?

How about a big sweeper that pushes all the afk entertainers out of the way to keep them from hogging all the "good" dancing room? lol I get so mad when I pay my alt and go to the cantina and all the afk people are right in the entrance area between the bar and the steps *sigh* Means I get to either have them dancing on top of me or I end up moving off to the side.

Loved the ideas tho Just had to get that off my chest..
