Dancer Archive
Thread: Another post on tempest this time about how to grind out dancer and musician.
Hologrinding will end very soon.
Profession grinding will never end, barring a change in game mechanics.
I am not doing holocrons, but I am grinding my alt as a dancer/musician for my guild (and it's TAKING FOREVER)
My primary char is grinding up to master doctor as we speak to go with Rifleman. He's been a doc before, and my alt was a doc until recently. I don't need the experience of being a medic again, I need a master doc so I can buff myself and cure states, poison, and disease while I fight.
Lots of crafters grind. There's nothing to sell below master.
Support professions like doc/combat medic, dancer, musician are much more useful at master level. Lots of people want the "useful" but spend their gaming time playing something else.
I never grind my combat classes, since that's what I enjoy playing. Your mileage may vary.
I'm not sure why Vermicious_Knid was one-starred, but I'm not entirely sure it was deserved. I am as whole-heartedly against afking as anyone in this entire game (and I've never been one to hide it), but he's absolutely right when he says the end of hologrindingwill not be theend of afking. It won't. Afking will continue until the sun burns out, the servers come down, or the code is changed. Some people simply can't resist the lure of free experience. The fact that dancing at master is no different than dancing at novice isn't the point for many people. Thereis a significant portion of players whoare only interested in:
A) That neat master flag floating over their head
B) The ability to buff at the optimum level(whether for money or for PA members)
C) The ability to place a cantina/theater
None of those desires isgoing to besated by anything other than achieving master status, and as long as they can gain experience while at work and asleep, that's exactly what they'll do. I suspect if they could get a computer to do their job at work, they'd do that as well. Work ethics are optional in life; not everyone has them. You either believe that work is what grants value to the product of that labor or you don't. If you don't, then there's no reason to work for anything at all. There just isn't.
In any case, as far as SOE and SWG go, it was intended. For all that we rattle our sabers and pound our drums against the irony of the antisocial afking behavior in professions designed and marketed to social players, the system is working as intended. The ability to loop macros was put in intentionally, and was explained by thedevelopersto be an "equalizing tool." The wisdom of this code could be debated until the end of time, along with abortion and the existence of God. You're either on one side or the other, and you feel passionately about it. If we're on the side that opposes afking, however, the developers are on the opposite end of the field. That's why we're at this point in the game.
SOE isn't forcing us to like the system that's in place. In fact, they're not even completely asking us to accept it; they do give us this forum to shout on, after all. They do expect us to find some way to deal with it in-game, however. Many couldn't, and left or retired. The rest of us found our own methods to cope. If you are an afker, then none of this discussion really matters to you because SOE is on your side and you can't hear the complaints in-game anyway. If you aren't an afker, you'll either find your own method of hanging on or you won't. I hope you do, though- we're dropping like flies these days.

That was a very well-stated and intelligent post, Nhari.
You are obviously an entertainer with class, poise, and character.
