How to get an entertainer Buff – A Combatants Primer
Entertainers have the ability to buff your mind stats, Focus and Willpower done by a Musician, while the Mind Stat is done a Dancer. Important things to remember when dealing with an entertainer are :
Please unequip any weapons your using or anything your holding in your hand. This is important as it really helps an entertainer to know when you start watching or listening. (You will start clapping if your hands are empty)
Don’t Watch any other dancers or musicians, before you are getting ready to get a buff. Sometimes things can be glitchy and you will not get a buff if you are watching another entertainer.
You don’t have to be grouped with an entertainer to receive a buff. Entertainers have this nifty command called /setperform (Name), or /setperform while clicked on a target. The Buffer will receive a message saying you have directed your performanceto %TT (yes it says %TT, it won't say your name to them, but this will hopefully be fixed soon in a future Publish) and you (the buffee) will receive a message similar to (insert player name) has directed theirattentionperformance towards you (It will actuallysay their name).
To get the maximum buff time, you will have to watch or listen for 120 flourishes with constant flourishes or 5 flourishes then 8 second pause (only 5 flourishes max per 10 seconds can be done) this comes out to around 3:00 of watching the performer. The buff strength goes from 10% at novice Musician/Dancer to 100% at master. That is 10-100% of the base stat being buffed. If you have 1000 Mind and get a master dancer buff (100%) you will have 2000 for 2 hours. However if you have 400 Mind from the same Master you will only have a mind of 800 for 2 hours.
For the buff to take effect you have to /stopListen or /stopwatch, sometimes the server doesn’t register this so please do it repeatedly until you stop clapping and get the buff. Dancers can see your mind stat increase but they do not get a message that the buff has been successfully applied. Musicians also get nosuchmessage, but cannot see your substats, so please tell them that your buff was successful when it is all done.
Buffs appear in the Modifiers Window as musical notes (Musician buffs) and a little dancing person (Dancer buffs). Hover over the icons to see the duration left on your buffs.
Clothing, There are in existence skill tapes that increase the buff value. With +25 in these tapes entertainers can buff you for up to 125% of your base mind stat in the same amount of time. There is the exotic leotard which has a +5 mod already included in it. These can be only worn by female entertainers. Also these tapes tend to go for outrageous prices and many entertainers cannot afford them. Tipping helps your favorite Entertainer be a better buffer, so they can afford these expensive tapes and leotards.
Etiquette :
Most conversation from entertainers to you is either to help you get the buff faster, or as an attempt to help you relax and enjoy yourself. After all, that is our job. If non masters ask you if you would be happy with a 10% buff please have the courtesy to respond, they are trying to learn things as well as you, about the entertainer profession and would like some practice buffing at any chance they get. If you aren’t happy with a 10% buff just say so. There should be no problems from an entertainer accepting that.
Entertainers are people as well. Please, as a common courtesy, don’t slap, smack, spit, lickor harass the entertainers. Also taking an instrument from a musician (while however funny it may be to you) is harassment. The Nalargon (piano-looking instrument) and Ommni Box (seated drum machine) have an option to "Use" them, but don't let your curiosity get the better of you - leave the music to the professionals. Again, taking an instrument from a musician is harassment. Mistakes are understandable, but repeated offenses only upset the Entertainer who is trying to perform for others, and help them heal faster. Woe to the player who thinks they're funny, only to incur the wrath of an elite Combat playerwho needs Battle Fatigue healing.
With a little attention to detail, and a respectful demeanor, your visit to the cantina will be both restful and problem-free. Remember to recommend your favorite Entertainers to your friends, and treat others in the game as you would like to be treated. RP'ing is one thing, but griefing and harassment have no place in SWG.
Enjoy your buffs, and enjoy the show!
