or if I should put it anywhere at all. But I was just reading the News of a certain un-named game and front page news has them banning 300+ accounts for using bots to play, without actually requiring the user to be physically present to play the game.
I can only hope that one day I read the news for SWG and see the same thing.

Yeah, my husband is playing the “thou shall not name the game” also, so I did hear about the large ban of 300 accounts for trying to devalue game. Seems like they really care about the overall game quality rather then immediate profit.
Sad thing is SOE doesn’t seem to see that in order to make a great game for everyone and have ultimate profits in the end they may have to take few loses in the beginning.

technically these bots were 3rd party programs, which is also against SOE. But, yeah, from what I hear, you can't really do what you can do in SWG with macros. So, it's still nice that they frown heavily on unattended play and actually do something about it.

Correct, SWG is fairly unique in that it's IN BUILT macro system allows unattended play. ALL RPG's that I know of ban 3rd party programs and I'm sure all (including SWG) have banned people for their use. I know this game your not mentioning isn't unique in mass bannings.

This is in reference to 3rd party programs.... I think it does not apply to in-game macro functionality.... yet... I have not experimented with the capabilities of that game's macro system though... anyone know if recursivity is possible?

This is a direct quote...with certain names changed of course...
"A bot is used to play an account non-stop, allowing its user to accumulate money, items, and experience without actually requiring the user to be physically present to play the game. The use of bots is a violation of the [game name removed] Terms of Use and is absolutely prohibited. Therefore, the accounts identified as having used bots have been banned."
Sure sounds like they frown on ALL kinds of botting, not just 3rd party bots.

thanks Javy...
<company> is committed to maintaining an environment of fair play in <game>. As stated previously, the company has a zero-tolerance policy for cheating or hacking of any kind. Players caught using a bot program to automate any of their characters' actions will have their characters removed and their account banned. They will not receive a warning. Over 300 accounts have already been banned for offenses of this nature.
While this does use the word "program", it also does not exclude in-game macros... time will tell... of course, I hope they do take measures against all unattended game play.

From what I've heard, talking to people who understand the inner workings of the "game that shall not be named" macro system better than I could ever hope to,is that it is not nearly as robust as SWG. There is a way to create macros, but as anyone who knows me, I can assure you it will be a while before 1) I attempt creating a macro and 2) I get said macro to actually work . . . .
Perhaps someone who has toyed with the GTSNBN's macro abilities could give us some insight.
