So, I was poking around in the Ahazi forum tonight, and I noticed that one of the legendary forum trolls (of the 'high post count, witty banter' variety, not the 'make everyone miserable' type) from that board was back posting again. And in his sig is still a link called "Cantinas Have Been Ruined"to this old thread he had posted from November 03 about entertainers.
The thread spans posts from November of '03 up until September of '04. It's an interesting catalogue of the changing feeling of AFK, holocrons, and the cantina environment over that time span. And, to my near shock and horror, I found a post that I had forgotten about - one I had done on my third day in game.
Check out the entertainers thread if you're interested in seeing one thread's accounting of how many attitudes shifted over time with the ongoing proliferation of AFK 'entertainment'. An interesting historical read that covers enough time to show the shift in perceptions, I thought.

Oh, so it's not just me! I was beginning to think that nothing had changed in more than a year of cantina hopping
This proves it. We could kill AFK bots at one time, and now we can't! I was worried that we may have been ignored....

Okay I can't read the whole thing. Hurts way too much.
I read the first and the last page, and Deila's post (/hug)...
I love this quote, and I think it is so hysterically ironic that I dont know if I want to laugh or cry:
"Spamming ''Please tip me or heal me'' is plain stupid. But you can not educate people, they think they will get it if they demand..whatever. I need buffs.."

It will be interesting to see how the tone of that thread progresses if it stays around.
It started when everyone remembered that there were live entertainers around all the time before afk. Now people think that if afk entertainers went away there would be none at all and use that as a justification. There is no ability to see cause and effect there.
And your post was inspiring Delia.
It is hard to see new people come into the game with no idea of how it used to be. It is nice to know that some people pick it up because they want it, and instinctively know how to do it right even in the face of the afk sea.

Yeah.. *sigh*.. I have been apart of the entertainer scene on my sever since the beginning. The first 2-3 months of the game were the "golden age". People would come to the cantinas to be entertained, and wind up staying for far longer than expected. It went way beyond game mechanics, the social environment was truly wonderful.
Once people figured out how to "loop" their macros, things started to take a turn for the worse. Then came the holocraze... Also player cities caused players to spread out across the galaxy, diluting the concentration of real entertainers.
Oh well.. I am still having a great time as a dancer. It just takes more effort to have those great parties. In the past they would just happen on their own.
