Thread: How about Cantina fees?

Hello all you wonderful Dancers!

An idea popped into my head and I thought maybe I'd come here and share it with you. Although I'm sure you all have thought of this before, and if so, sorry for rehashing the issue. I looked at your representatives list and didn't see it mentioned, so who knows. I'll admit that that I didn't do too much research on this topic, and spend VERY little time on the boards. Anyways...

Ok the idea is to have a city's Cantina charge either a cover fee, a watching fee, or perhaps both. I personally think a watching fee would be better, as it goes directly to the dancer performing. I guess the cover fee would be split amongst the Dancers performing, although AFKers would benefit from this so...maybe the whole cover charge would just be bad.

As far as the fee itself, it could either be a flat fee, or one based on either time or wounds/fatigue healed. I personally like the idea of it being based of the amount of wounds healed. However it is done, let this fee be fairly (but not insanely) expensive for the Cantina in a non-player city. A player-owned house and eventually player-owned Cantina's fee could be set by whoever owns the establishment.

In doing this a few things could come about. For one, you Dancer's could be guaranteed to at least get a little something out of doing your job. And second, it would motivate people to set up more player run Cantinas for people to go to and interact. I thinkthis aspectcould also help some with the AFK problem. If the owner of the building doesn't approve of AFK dancers....out you go. And this effect could have the potential to get more classes involved (advertising, food and drink, buildings, doctors in the same place, etc).

Granted, I haven't thought too much on this. So I'm sure there are some major logistical flaws that would come up and would have to be dealt with. And I'm sure there would be more than a few people that would moan and cry at first, but they'd get used to it and accept it after a bit. I for one, would have no problem with a fee for your service. And tipping would still be present, but more so to those dancers that actually interact with their clients.

And who knows, this may be the most unoriginal idea to come up on your professions board...if so, just ignore it. Anyways, just figured I'd throw that out to you all.

You're right, Yaquat, this has already been discussed. You wouldn't have any way of knowing that, of course, so don't feel badly about bringing it up. At least you have your thinking cap on, which is a good thing!

The concern is that public cantinas are already empty enough, and we're not even to Player Cities yet. Enforcing a cover charge would only (a) Increase the resentment of other classes (b) empty the cantinas even more as players spend a few points for novice and heal their own BF; (c) actually lower the income available to dancers because fewer players will be there. There's also the issue of paying non-playing AFKers for doing nothing but standing in a cantina.

Player cantinas will have a major advantage over the publics. Being in competition with each other, they will be seeking the best entertainers, holding activities, and they'll even have live bartenders and gambling table managers. The social quotient will take a giant leap upward - and it wouldn't surprise me if many of them charged admission. A few of them already do.

The main thing public cantinas offer seems to be lag, and it's my opinion that making them pay to enter would only drive them away.

I just want to point out that the Tyrena Cantina, also known as Kiet's Place Cantina, usually has a live bartender, and will again as soon as my internet problem is sorted out. I'm almost always there, I pay my entertainers (only like 100-300cr and hour, but still) and I give the occasional mission, thats right, mission. /smile. If you are on the Wanderhome server stop by sometime. We have a regular band, image designer and quite a few dancers, plus a bartender for cheap drinks and barfood (me).

I'm back after a long break. I have reactivated my account and am having a great time entertaining anyone who feels like listening to me play.

While I think cover charges are an excellent idea for private venues (e.g. your guild hall), they are not a good idea for public venues like the cantina. There are a couple of reasons for this. As Sinda said, it'd make them even less pleasant places for the wounded fighters to go. Beyond that I think there should be venues where dancers who are NOT looking to receive gobs of pay for dancing, have the ability to do so and still heal.

This is not to say that my character does not like tips. Of course she does. But she also dances for the love of dancing and the joy of giving pleasure to others (watching her dance). She would not feel right about forcing people to pay her, so it would ruin her entire M.O. if you made ever public healing place have a cover charge.

Again, yes, do this for private clubs. But not public cantinas.
