Why do Master Dancer get melee/range defense at master? Same thing with master musicians.

If I had to guess, because it was easy to code and is so stupid it's funny.
Of course, since I plan to advance in unarmed so I can beat the hell out of people with a slitherhorn, it's also useful. Kinda. Not really.

Doh. There's your answer: advancing to master in that kinda precludes getting too high up a combat profession. If I was already a master musician, that gives me +7 melee/range defence at novice brawler while as it is I have to wait until unarmed 4 to get a +2 melee. That bonus is pathetic for its level, but if you decide to spend the rest of your points in combat it DOES give you an edge at the early levels.

(repost, paraphrased)
Once you reach master there really isn't much choice but to take a combat character, or at least one that tends to get out more. That +7 is pathetic for a master elite, but if you were just starting brawler or marksman it's a decent bonus at those levels. Since, when fighting, the ability to play music/dance is useless, the massive investment of points has SOME benefit.
Or it could be an extra line of code to make a quick joke.

Dancers and musicians generally have to be very agile in their craft, especially dancers. Thus, a +7 to defense isn't that surprising, because they'd be able to move a bit more quickly and with better reflexes due to their training.

both the melee and ranged defense have been included for the AFK-ers.
To make sure they can withstand the rotten tomatoes thrown at them and the incoming chair swung at them for being AFK.
