It was a long hard battle at first. AFK spam, holo grinders, buff bots, the worse of them, everywhere. It was a long hard fight, many were angered in the process, both entertainers and patrons alike.
The hologrinders dispersed on thier own mostly with the advent of pub 9.
Spamers we dealt with most harshly. If they were at the keyboard they were asked nicely to stop, if they did, no further action was taken, if they refused, they were removed from the group and not allowed back in until they removed spam, a few beligerent spammers are no longer welcome, regardless if they spam or not. AFK spammers were imidiately removed from the group and sent an e-mail informing them that spam was not appreciated and that they would be re-invited once spam was removed, or if they prefer to continute to spam, that coronet cantina would be more than happy to take them in. We define spam as any repeated command that speaks to any public chat channel, spatial or otherwise, but especially request for tips, heals, and invites. Any socials such as smiling and winking preformed by a macro is also considered spam.
Buff bots were dealt with in an opposite fashion, despite the spam. They were constantly invited to the entertainer group, denying them customers and forcing the customers to use the live entertainers who were readily available.
AFK is tollerated so long as it is quite, however we do have a standing policy of kicking afkers for those present at the keys. With the growing popularity of Theed Cantina however has encouraged more and more to play ATK since it ensures them a group spot, and also since the number of people at the keyboard also increased its generally more enjoyable for everybody, so fewer people get bored and wander off. Also masters are sticking around after mastery, which bring patrons in from across the galaxy for the ready availability of buffs and quick healing. Droids are common as are masters preforming special effects under the influence of Accarragm, so its also a treat for the eyes. Spatial scrolling is somewhat of a problem, however instead of being due to excessive repeated spamming, its due to actual live conversations, seperate chat windows for group and tells are a definite must to keep in contact with your friends, use of chat bubbles to see the close by messages is also highly used.
Some times are better than others, due to the dynamic nature of ATK, sometimes we have ATK people waiting for a group since everybody in the group is atk, and sometimes its only a small group of 14 who are mostly afk. Most the time tho things are hopping like most wouldn't believe tho, esp when the "resident masters" arrive.
Basically don't give up the fight, we took Theed back from the AFK without needing macro's nerfed, we just made it a place condusive to one play style, spam free ATK. Buffs flow, as do tips. I don't wait for them to ask if someone can, I ask them if they want it, sometimes I don't even ask, if I notice they're watching me I throw them a buff. Sometimes they notice and tip, sometimes they don't. Greet everybody who comes in, not with a macro but actually type something up different each time, it shows you care. Under most of that cold hard composite there's a real human being, try to reach them
Anyway, good luck all you on other cantinas on other servers

It just takes a few to get it going. Most don't like it just don't want to stand out against it. Even one person saying "No, not in my group" can get the ball rolling. You're not kicking or being mean to people here, you're just kicking out annoying bots. Stick with it, it won't happen overnight but it can and will eventually happen, probably before the macro change even. Most the spammers are there for is one thing, XP. Take away the XP they'll either change, or go away, either way you win. News will spread, roving entertainers will find you and if they like what they see they'll stay for a bit, others will come by and move on. Send out "emisaries" to other cantinas, find live entertainers in the sea of AFKs in other cantinas, invite them to the "ATK haven".
Like I said, don't give up, there is hope!!!
