Thread: Need an opinion on if I should get myself flamed or not....
So I thought it was time to resurrect my own buying tapes post.
My question is this:
Should I make the distinction that I'm always ATK and against AFKing? I know I will get flamed by someone, be it a bot or just someone who has no respect for real entertainers...but is it worth it? Is this a distinction that I should make and bring out when people aren't discussing it?
My goal in it would NOT be to get people to sell me more tapes, per se, and I know it will alienate at least some people who might have sold to me. I can live without them, which is why I don't bump my post very often (been at least a month I think). My goal would be more to make people think about where they get their buffs and who they sell to and just what they're doing. Just to make people think about where the money that's talking is coming from.
Is it worth it? Would the flames do more damage to our image? Would it be yet another useless battle?
Let me know what you guys think. Right now I'm leaning towards "no," and the reasons why make me very sad.
If I did do it, it would probably be in the form of a sig.
Wow, a truly intriguing question.
The truth is in past experience I guess. We've seen buffbot advertising on some of the Galaxy boards, and as soon as anyone makes a comment against it, no matter how benign, they get blasted for it.
It really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking to try to push our views on others, then great. If you're expecting a debate, I haven't seen evidence that you'll get a good one. The typical answers of "You guys aren't online to give me a buff so I HAVE to get it from a bot!!" will echo through the boards once again.
I myself lean on the no side myself, but that's mostly because I probably wouldn't be able to control my anger. For someone who is really good at debating objectively, it could be a fun passtime ![]()
I don't really WANT to start a debate, I would ideally just phrase it so it's obvious but not run around yelling "BOTS ARE EVIL" or something. Just to get the people who are willing to think about it to think about it. I'm just wondering if that's even possible any more.. if I'm even allowed to express my own preference for ATK vs. AFK without getting flamed just for having it in a sig.
I have a full set of tapes so i'm not really worried about that, though I'm sick of always wearing the same dancing outfit to buff..
In the past what's happened is that friends (without any prompting) posted things for me about me being always ATK.. and then that thread got so long with that and bumps that I made a new one.
I think I'm gonna mull this over some more, and maybe make me up a sig and squint at it and think more. I had one for a while and took it down because I didn't want to deal with nasty comments about it -- I got one and realized that I, like Ub-ick, have a good chance at not being able to control my anger. I do a better job of it here than in game, though, hehe.

Hehe, yep sounds like me. ![]()
When my guild created a buffbot, even though they had an anti AFK Macro policy, I changed the name of my cantina to "Welcome to <guildname>, where we love our AFK Macros!!"
Some people weren't pleased. They threatened to kick me from the guild. As if I wasn't planning on leaving anyway ![]()
But I'm probably not going to care if someone complains this time. I'm just about to the point where I will simply tell them to bring it, though I'm never going to be at the point where I deliberately post a troll post to start a debate.
oh, anyone know if we can put HTML in sigs or is it weird board code type stuff? html I can do but I dunno much about the other stuff. The help menu said we could use HTML if it was enabled, but did it tell me if it was enabled? I assume so but if not I'd have one silly looking sig
Thanks again for the responses, it's really helping me sort through my thoughts.
