Thread: Can someone please find fault in this logic?

Logic check

- At least one AFK buffbot has been awarded a ‘credit to the profession’ badge.

-These badges are awarded to those whose example should be followed the profession.

-Therefore all entertainers should become AFK buffbots.

-However a full AFK buffbot has no need for any other professions nor any need for cash (once Master) as they live in the cantina 24/7.

- An AFK buffbot is a computer controlled character that responds to a command (/invite) and will perform an action (buff) in response.

-An NPC character is a computer controlled character that responds to a command (/converse) and will perform an action (train, mission give etc) in response.

- The devs have announced in the past their desire to see more money sinks in the game to reduce the number of credits in circulation (partly due to the duping exploits).

- An NPC character programmed with a response to buff will combine the best of the musician/dancer professions and provide a new money sink.

=The devs have therefore announced a long term goal of eliminating the professions in question to be replaced by a money sink.

Will somebody (preferably with a Red name) please fault this logic?

If not does anyone think we should ask the question I suggested in the Entertainer forum Question Thread?

It's a real shame...It truly is. I'm thinking we should ask your question. And just for everyone's convenience, here it is:

I almost went for the Coronet question until I saw the badge thread. This question should be considered:

Does TH orthe Dev team consider it appropriate to award a 'tribute to the profession' badge to a NPC? (by definition since an afk buffbot is not actively controlled by a player they are computer controlled)

If Yes, what is the timetable to remove the professions and place dev controlled buffbots?

If No, will the team please confirm the CSR team have been given revised instructions on the distribution of badges?

Of course the "If No..." could be made also refer to removing such badges, but I don't want to give the devs extra work which will not bring us benefit. I placed the "If yes..." answer as it is the only logical extension of the answer I can see.

(Oh and only one of the performer professions need ask this, the others can ask which planetTheed, Naboois on)

The fault is in your second statement:

"-These badges are awarded to those whose example should be followed the profession."

In theory, the badges indicate excellence in ones profession. In reality, that judgement is left up to the giver of the badge. It's probably fair to say that a lot of badges are received as a result of being in the right place at the right time. In this case, we really have no idea why this CSR decided to award a buffbot. It may be because SOE supports the existance of buffbots over live entertainers, as you surmise. On the other hand, it may be that this CSR hates the social players (like so many othes in this game) and decided to award this to show their personal support of buffbots. It may be that with the recent players complaining about the lack of badges that CSRs were instructed to step things up and this was the first entertainer this CSR saw. Or perhaps a lot of players continually praise this entertainer on the forums enough so that they were rewarded.

We'll probably never know. Does this action indicate a change in the views of the dev team towards supporting AFK behavior? We don't know that either. For all we know, this CSR is being chastized right now for creating a brouhaha.

I agree that what happened is essentially a PR nightmare for SOE, one they should consider performing some damage control for. I do not agree that this one action means that the devs want us gone from their game. It's fair to take it as the latest in a long line of insults, but this action in and of itself should not be given undue weight.
