Thread: An idea to encourage more non-afkness

What this game needs to encourage more players to actually be at the keyboard while dancing, I have a solution.

More break dancing dances and flourishes. I mean, there are so many moves that would look so cool that more people would want to stay and watch. Oh and don't forget the potential for contests! Man, you need some spiced up dances with a wide selection of flourishes not just 3 or 4.

How does a new dance make afk go away?

While I thoroughly appreciate the sentiment with which this was written - believe me, anything that encourages more live entertainment is going to get my vote - I have to agree with Blamj on this one. More dances isn't going to encourage people to stay at their keyboards while their 'toon dances. It'll grab their attention the first few times... and then they'll just incorporate the new dances into their macro and go on their merry way to work, sleep, eat, etc. The only way we are ever going to truly cure the AFK cantina virus is by making entertaining non-macroable.

There is a simple way of preventing afk macroing.

The system shouldn't count flourishes as a player response to the game. The game should ignore flourishes and only check for mouse movement.. like it does for any other case.

My TrollDAR is acting... I think this one is getting a bit out of control *In an Aussie accent* Better get my dart gun.

Why are you telling us about "entertainer mentality"? Your just some punk who came into the Dancer's fourm acting like a big shot and acting like you've been around longer then me in the Dancer profession. You're probably some hotshot holocron afker who just alt-tabbed just to post that

For your information, I have been a master dancer on corbantis since september(holocrons were useless back then if you didn't know).... no little crap box told me to. When I do a profession, it's for fun. So, before you go off on a tangent about something you have no clue about, take time to think. Like I said before... you people are too uptight.

I can't believe I took the time to reply to that... what was I thinking. Everyone has those moments, I guess it was time for mine.

C, please understand that, in general, we are on edge about our game profession. Some more so than others . . . You have to admit that your original post didn't even hint at being TIC - and in this day and time (what with buffbots getting badges and live ents being slammed by players who don't want to interact with others) its only to be expected that it would be misunderstood initially. That being said, I've read yourrecent posts with interest (agreeing and not at times). Thanks for becoming involved in the community and adding your thoughts and input into the quandry we are all facing.

I'm not going to be as nice...

As I read more and more of your posts, Captainme, it seems less like constructive posting and more like trolling. We don't like trolls around here. Kindly go away.

I understand the frustration, but that is no reason to be uptight. Sometimes you need a little humor to remind you that there are more important things to worry about. I had no intentions of "trolling", my intentions were to set a lighter mood. However, if people have a problem with humor, then they need to take some time off from the game and visit the outside world for a while. You'll see that spending your time worrying about a game is a waste. In all actuality, I wasn't being completely silly. I seriously want to see more dances and flourishes added instead of having 3 or 4 and the rest being the same as the others. I have been playing this game for a while now and just recently started watching the boards wanting to see what people were saying about the professions I play. Yes, I do play these professions, been playing a dancer for 10 months now, I'm not some hologrinder that has only had the profession for a day and is going to move on tomorrow. I want to thank you kirah for at least being reasonable, for you others... I still can't think of anything to say to you except, lighten up.

Heh...this post is where you went wrong. Nobody likes being called uptight. I remember reading your first post in this thread and thinking that I didn't agree, but I didn't feel like responding because actually it didn't make sense, lol. But, you have to admit, there really was no indication that the post was meant for humor. I mean, there are a lot of dancers who aren't too concerned about afk and buffbots and whatnot and that's absolutely their right. I just thought you were one of those dancers who actually believed that new flourishes and dances would solve our problems. There are several dancers who actually feel that way. I don't agree with them, but I respect their opinion. The original replies to your post were made by people who I think also don't agree with that opinion, but it's not like they were flaming you or anything, they were just giving you their opinion. Because, like I said, there are people on here that *do* agree with that opinion so it's not exactly out of the ordinary to find a post such as this and consider it to be serious.

But...seriously, I *hate* being called uptight or being accused of something I'm not and when you said that, well, I admit, it annoyed me greatly. I decided *not* to respond to that post last night even though I wanted to. But, I decided not to because if I had I wouldn't have been very nice about it. Now, that I've had a bit of time to compose my thoughts, I have responded to it.

I do want to apologize for that post, I felt as if I was being attacked over something I did to set a lighter mood. I mean, we all know there are problems with all professions. I can be reasonable and serious, but like I said we all have those moments that we're not. To me, it seemed like flaming the way Blamj was putting it. I think that's who my frustrations were pointed to. If I upset anyone else, I didn't mean to. But Blamj's first post just had a condescending tone to it, as if to say "What would you know?" I felt threatened by that. However, I thought it was pretty clear that by saying "more break dancing dances" that people would get a slight chuckle. After all, you didn't see Han Solo bust out with the robot or Obiwan do a head spin. However, to be serious about this, I do think that if there were a different flourish for each flourish number that there could be possibilities for contests and the such. I don't know, this might not be a solution, but it would be really cool.

Right now there are 4 poplock flourishes that work with break dancing. 1, 2, 3, and 5. They all seem pretty boss, and throw in some good new songs for musician, then you can get some good dancing up in there.
