Thread: What kind of image do we have?

I just read through parts of this thread:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Development&message.id=233842

And I added my own thoughts -- at first I thought it was going to be another of those endless rants against having entertainer professions in SWG. But I was wrong.

I was afraid many players saw us as superfluous, an unnecessary embellishment "to attract females" (honest, that's what one poster said a couple weeks ago). But the substance of the thread surprised me - and pleasantly.

The original poster who wants to do away with entertainers is in the minority, it seems. (Not that we should take the general opinion of the Discussions board as indicative of anything at all.) The word has spread among players that MOST of us never ask for tips and really do add something to this game, even if it's only a pleasant RP experience in between combats.

I wanted to congratulate my fellow dancers and thank you for helping to improve our image. This made my day

Thanks Sinda,

I also put my 2 cents on this topic over there.

I think for the most part as the game matures, the short term Entertainers i.E. those who are just trying out things like macros (rolls eyes) disappear that those who truly enjoy the social aspect of being an entertainer that we will find us gaining more respect.

Its hard to gain tips, and or respect when half our lil dancers are nothing but afk macro queens with poorly written macros that include a demand for tips.

Whenever i see someone with a macro that asks for tips, even in a nice way i cringe, mainly because i don't need a guilt trip to get me tips, only a smile, a bit of friendly converstation, a bit of fantasy and good Roleplaying as well as some choice outfits and dance routines and my tips are quite suffcient.

The cream will rise to the top, and those who think that they are going to just macro their way into a fortune by just being there will come to an end for the most part. Those people who take the time to develop a loyal following through converstation and charm will be the top stars and be the ones earning the best tips because they are appreciated.

I definately don't see others as considering us superflous.

I don't have a macro. For anything. Even my other professions.
(Which is odd, since I type slow.)

I actually rarely see anyone ask for tips at all, and although I've recieved a fair share of compliments and flirting (including last night when I was out in the field, covered neck to toe in bulky hunting gear...apparently those clothes flatter me to some), I've never been the target of abuse...unless you count being told in the cantina last night by a customer that I couldn't dance. Since it was someone looking to duel with anyone (and her partner asked if she was a dancer...no? Then shut up...), and I had JUST started and barely had time to do one flourish, I ignored it.
But overall, I've had fun as a dancer (still on Entertainer tree), and still plan to open a cantina south of Theed on Eclipse.

(Side note: when I'm out in the field...whether doing missions to earn money for that cantina, or feeding the harvesters...I often get requests to dance for folks in camps or houses. "Hey, where are you? Can you swing by?" So, no, we're not superflous.)

I think macros can be a great tool if used right. I would love to see co-ordinated dance numbers by several dancers. I would also like to see a synced start mechinism as musicians have.

Mariki,

I too think that a maco can make a good tool, my only point on that being the ones that irritate me to know end are those who afk macro to master then think they are dancers.

Being able to be an entertainer is more then title.

I had a boss once who had a poster on his office door that sums up my feelings on this
